Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Sprint Into Action (2)
-2 Days Ago: Day After Moxxie gave the 'talk'-
Precision, nothing can take the place of precision
Whenever Lincoln found himself in a state of mind where he didn't know what to do, he could always turn to training. Even when it felt like life was collapsing on him, training was a way to re-center and gain a feeling of control in his life. Right now, when the curse of every adolescent called puberty arrived, he needed something to clear his head.
Picture every detail no matter how minimal
On the bee sanctuary's property there is a red barn, but instead of housing animals or farm equipment Lincoln used it as a workspace for projects that were too unsafe to do in smaller spaces, or too eye-catching to do outside. The white-haired boy was doing push-ups in front of a giant concrete cube; the cube was the size of a garbage truck and made to be as strong as possible. If that was strange enough, Lincoln was doing push-ups with one hand behind his back, while in a handstand, and using only hispinkie finger.
"... 999... 1000!" With his final push up, Link shoot himself into a backflip onto his feet. As he stretched his arm, he kept the image he was forming in his mind.
Every feature is the product of evolution forging the ultimate predator
Ready for what comes next, Lincoln got into the fighting stance he found most comfortable. He lead with his left foot, standing on the ball; his right foot was planted behind, turned at a sixty degree angel. Knees slightly bent, Lincoln kept his back straight but relaxed. His body was turned slight in the direction his rear foot was turned, leading with his left. Leading with his left hand, his right was kept closer to his chest. Finally, there was his hands; not completely closed and not fully opened, the boy kept his fingers relaxed while his arms were steady as the mast of sailboat.
Every behavior is meant to entice prey into lowering their guard
At that moment, the figure appeared. The creature was majestic with an ethereal beauty. Insectoid, it had the appearance of a giant moth with wings like stained-glass. On the bug's head was a giant smile with bug eyes like giant, red marbles. Curious of the boy, the moth approached Lincoln with hesitance while the boy remained stoic. A mere few inches from each other, the two looked into one another's eyes. At first glance it seemed the creature was harmless, but then Lincoln dropped to the side to eject himself away.
Lincoln was now at the wall of the barn, seeing what the creature had hidden. Protruding from it's hindquarters was a stinger like tail with a blade sharp end. From the stinger's position it was clear the creature was trying to impale Lincoln from behind. The creature turned its body to face the child, curling its mouth into a smile like wall of razor sharp teeth. Link proved himself correct, every alluring aspect of the creature was meant to deceive its prey.
"Nice smile." Lincoln smirked. "Let's see if it's just for show."
"Hot Damn!" Blitz was watching the spring breakers from the roof of a nearby building. "This bet is as good as won, Team!"
"I wasn't worried for a second." Millie beamed with pride. "I knew our boy would come through."
"Truthily, I had a little doubt." Moxxie toned down how nervous he was. "But it looks as though Lincoln proved it unfounded."
"I gotta be honest, I feel alittleguilty at winning." Blitz looked down at Verosika, smiling in triumph. "And yet the look of humiliation on that snatch's booze-hound face is gonna be too satisficing. Just look down there! The only one of her skanks that wasn't taken down is her guard dog! Look at him, getting hit on by some desperate, college coed with..." He lost his arrogance, replacing it with outrage. "That's Loona! She's talking to him!"
"Maybe she's trying to distract him, Sir?" The gun expert guessed.
"Over my cold, dead, beaten body she will!" Furious, Blitz ran down to break up what was going on.
"And, we've lost him." Moxxie expresses exasperation with his boss' behavior. "And he took the binoculars with him. What are we supposed to do now!?"
Getting an idea, Millie put on a flirtatious expression. "Well... now that the kids and our boss are away~ Why don't Mommy show Daddy how proud she is of you mannin' up and having a talk with our boy~?"
His wife caressing his cheek until her hand was right over his crotch, Moxxie was both eager and concerned. "Millie? Right here?"
"Oh, am I beingnaughty~? I need a big, strong, Daddy to show me what for~" More aggressive, she initiated a strong make-out session that quickly turned into a wild escapade.
Down below, while the concert rages, Vortex is calmly standing guard when a nervous Loona scoots in closer.
"Hey, you... how's guarding the security going?" She made a humorous attempt at flirting.
"Oh, you're that hound who works for my boss' freaky ex and the kid." He spotted the scent of his own species. "I see your company knocked out the rest of our crew."
"Yeah, sorry about that. In my defense, it was kept a secret from me." Loona tensely laughed. "They should be okay. Sorry if Blitz and the kid made things weird."
"It's cool." Vortex dismissed. "Her beef ain't mine. I don't get paid enough to care."
"Yeah, are we employees or slaves!?" Loona made another nervous joke. "Yeah... I'm Loona, by the way." She said it in a nervous tone while brushing hair out her reddened face.
Amused, the taller hellhound mimicked her tone. "Okay. I'm Vortex!"
"That'shot... like, literally, their hot, vortexes I mean. They give off heat, probably, right?" Nervous, she bites her lip.
"Maybe." He chuckles. "But friends just call me Tex."
"Oh, yeah? I wish I had friends" She chuckles, then nervously back tracks to not sound pathetic. "I mean, not that I... No, I mean, I don't... I… I don't have friends."
Hearing what was going on from nearby, Lincoln laughed. "And I thought pre-teen boys had no game." Moving forward, he spoke into his transceiver. "This is King One, are the stations secure?"
{What?} Vesper spoke on the other end. {Why are you using codenames?}
"I just thought it would make things fun." Deflated at the others' lack of interest, Lincoln spoke plainly. "Is the circle secure for the dungeon link?"
{All secure on my end/no stragglers/my side is for go/clear and ready.} The Pawns confirmed.
Everything ready, he was prepared to open a dungeon when the sound of family strife hit his ears.
"Blitz, get the fuck away!" Loona yelled, catching the boy's attention. "You're gonna get us all into shit!"
"I just wanted to see what could be so important it coulddistract you from your job." Her adopted father replied.
"Oh what, I can't have a break?"
"We have both Lincoln and our parking spot on the line!"
Not liking the imp guy's attitude, Vortex stepped in. "Hey, dude. Be chill, she isn't hurtin' anyone."
"This is a family matter, Tough Guy!" Blitz wasn't having it. "And as her father, it's my responsibility to keep her away from bad influences!"
Frustrated, Loona groans. "Fuck! Why can't you just stay out of my business for five minutes!?"
"Because, I adopted you!" Although he was angry, there was a hint of pleading in his voice. "That meaning something, Looney."
"What does it matter!?" She was blinded by anger. "You're not my real dad, Blitz! I was almost eighteen when you got me! I would have aged out in a month!"
"It should still count!" The imp argued.
"Well... it shouldn't! I didn't need you then, and I don't need you know!" With those last words, Loona observed a change in his face, hurt. "Uh... Blitz... I-"
"No, enjoy your break, Loona." Blitz turned away. "I'm gonna go..." In that moment, the founder of IMP had a revelation, he wasn't needed. Loona didn't need him to check on her, Lincoln didn't need him to complete the job, nor did Moxxie and Millie need him for whatever they were doing. "I'm gonna go get some ice cream."
Watching him walk away, Loona went quiet.
"Damn, girl." Vortex spoke, surprised by the spat. "That was savage."
WHACK!
"Ow!" Feeling a kick to her shin, Loona jumped on her other leg. "What the shit!?" She looked down, seeing Lincoln staring at her with disapproval. "What was that for!?"
Instead of answering, Lincoln just continued giving her the look.
"What? You think if you keep looking at me I'll crack? That I'll feel sorry for Blitz!? That'll go apologize for telling it like it is!?" She fumed, but the boy said nothing. "I didn't say anything that wasn't true! I don't need Blitz! I've never needed anyone! Not before he adopted me, and not now!"
She looked into the boys eyes before resuming. "You think he made my life better!? That having someone care about me made things better!? That if he didn't take me in I'd be alone and miserable somewhere in gutter!? Why should I be grateful to him for anything!?"
Taking a deep breath, Lincoln asked a single question. "If Hellhound orphanages are like Earth kennels, what happens when institutions have no more obligation to provide care?"
A simple to answer question, but neither Loona nor Vortex had the strength to answer. Frustrated, angered, remorseful, the hound woman responded the only way she could. "FUCK!" She wheezed. "I'll be back in a few."
The two boys watched as Loona went off in a huff. "Damn, you mind powers or somethin' kid." Vortex responded, impressed.
Amused, Lincoln chuckled. "For someone whose lived with Blitz for only a few years, she is a lot like him." Strange as it was, it was clear those two were father and daughter. "They're both afraid they don't have anyone, so they act like they don't need anyone. Sorry, IMP has been pulling you into all kinds of trouble today. Wish I could talk longer!"
"No big." Vortex replied. "You know, that girl is lucky to have a friend like you."
"She has more friends then she realizes." Lincoln recalled her talking about Octavia, Raphael and Donatello, Star, even the Pawns. "She's just too guarded to accept it."
Resuming to his intended mission, the boy decided to make the dungeon a little more challenging. "You know, I think I'll use my Gilded Age."
Now that it was Spring Break, Kai wanted to visit Lincoln at the Lucky Spade Bee Sanctuary. Accompanying her on the canoe ride over was her older sister K'lynn and her younger sister Sony.
"You think he can give us an early look at Chess Masters!?" K'lynn spoke, excited.
"I told you, Lin, it's only in the development phase." Kai told her. "He only first told me last night."
"What am I supposed to do while he and Lin are playing games?" Sony asked, not as thrilled as the other two.
"I've been over before, he has nice library for you to go." The blonde sister informed.
Sony was going to remark, but she went silent and stared at the little train station as a train pulled up. She and her sisters watched as someone disembarked. As the train pulled off, the passenger strolled down the platform with a devil may care attitude. They didn't know who this man was but he was tall, not as tall as their father, dressed in a red suit, twirled a cane, and had a large smile on his face. While K'lynn and Kai thought he was a regular, if eccentric, person, Sony couldn't fight the feeling there was something dangerous about him. Something she hadn't seen in a human before.
The man was heading towards Lincoln's house when the girls reached the dock. Alerted to their arrival by the sound of feet hitting wood, the man turned around. Although the smile never left his face, he went slightly alarmed when he caught sight of Sony.
"Salutations!" He welcomed the Neu sisters with opened arms. "Alastor is the name! To what pleasurer do I owe your arrival?"
"Hello, Sir." Kai introduced them. "I'm Kai Neu, and these are my sisters, K'lynn and Sony. We're here to see Lincoln Spade."
"And what, if I may implore, is your relationship with my nephew?" Alastor moved in closer, circling the girls as he spoke.
"You're the Uncle! Lincoln told me about you. We're his friends. I mean, Me and Lin are, Sony is..."
"Undecided." The dark haired girl answered, retaining her neutral expression as Alastor looked into her eyes.
"Wonderful! I actually just popped in because there was a art project he wanted to show me. May we adjourn to the barn?"
Before either of her sisters could answer, Sony grabbed their hands. "Let's... have a word. In private." She pulled them away into a huddle. "I don't trust him."
"Do you think he's lying?" K'lynn whispered, looking back at Alastor.
"No, but he isn't being fully honest." Sony narrowed her gaze as she observe Alastor squash a spider. "Some creatures have eyes that plainly say they revel in the suffering of others."
Kai looked at the thin man. "Do you think he's lying about being Lincoln's Uncle?"
"No."
"Then I say we trust him." The middle sister expressed her trust in the boy's judgement. "Lincoln would make sure he no idea of the station if Alastor couldn't be trusted. Either we all agree to trust him, or we leave."
K'lynn nodded her head, agreeing with Kai. Sony gave an exhausted sigh, then agreed.
Following Alastor to the barn, the girls saw more of the sanctuary besides the house. Apparently, the sanctuary also housed an array of statues along the premises. Most of them looked like common animals like wolves, bears, tigers, and such, but a few of them took inspiration from mythological figures, one that Kai particularly liked was one of a killer whale as small as a puppy. Closer to the barn, they saw statues on either side of the door; one looked like a woman with flame symbols on her cheeks holding a giant hammer; and the other looked like a woman with the sides of her head shaved and her hair done into a long braid, and a sword at her side.
It was clear they were stone, but the Neu sisters couldn't help but feel... life, like a story was diligently inscribed into every inch of the statues. Looking at the two guards, a powerful aura of strength and grit radiated from them like heat.
"Majestic, are they not?" Alastor asked, understanding what they thought. "Some art is so beautiful, you believe that at any moment it will come to life."
Knocking on the door, it gently opened. Pitch black inside, Alastor checked for the light switch. When the lights came on, the group saw Lincoln. He was wearing only briefs and drenched in sweat; facing away from his company, ignored that anything had changed, Lincoln only observed his work.
"Lincoln, we have company!" Alastor called.
Snapping out of his trance, the white-haired boy saw his great uncle along with Kai, Sony, and K'lynn. "Uncle Al, you made it just in time! I present, my latest masterpiece!"
Alastor observed the sculpture, an exact concrete replica of the giant insect Lincoln was fighting. Its tail was hidden and its mouth was closed, yet one could feel the horror such a beautiful predator was capable of. Impressed with his latest work, Alastor applauded Lincoln.
"Truly majestic! Da Vinci himself would even this!"
"You are too generous, Uncle." Humble, Link accepted his praise. He turned to speak with his other guests, but the sight of their strange behavior brought concern.
Kai and K'lynn both went pink in the face, staring at the statue with their mouths agape, and blood trickling down their noses. He believed they were so taken by fear that Kai ran away cupping her face while screaming, and K'lynn hastily backed away saying, "Error! Error!", as blood shot out her nose. Upset with himself, Lincoln rubbed the back of his head at how badly he must have scared them.
"Dang it, I went overboard." Walking to Sony, he apologized. "Sorry, I wasn't expecting anyone but Uncle to be here. Should I go apologize for scaring them?"
"Scare?" Sony tilted her head, knowing the real reason. Like her sisters, when the lights came on their eyes were caught by the sight his glistening back and shredded abs. "Yes... that's what happened. They were scared."
The party was still going, but Verosika was taking a break off stage. Startling, she found most of her crew tied up and silenced with duck-tape behind the stage curtain.
"What in the seven rings happened to you!?" She asked, releasing Ace.
"I don't know! I was just trying to do our thing when I blacked out and found myself bound and gagged, and not in the fun way!" The tallest sex demon said, helping his leader release the others.
"Blitz-o... he sabotaged us!" Verosika fumed. "For once he uses his head."
"The party's almost over, V." Taking note of the time, Kiki spoke. "Even if we work non-stop it might not be enough to win."
"Then I'll just need to really pull out the stops." The pop star wanted to win, and she was going to go all out to pull it off. "Head back out there! I'm gonna give these freaks an encore."
Strutting back on stage, Verosika was ready to give the crowd another performance when the party atmosphere went cold. Watching the humans from the stage, she saw that many of them began barfing but not from alcohol, many of them displayed embarrassment, some talked about leaving, and nobody showed any sign of arousal like before.
"What the fuck is doing on here!?" She yelled into the mike. "This is a time for nonstop fucking, drinking, and partying! Whose with me!?"
Collectively, everyone remained quiet and went about their day. They may have been absorbed by the atmosphere before, but it wore off and now the spring breakers wanted to get back on with their lives. Verosika didn't believe this was happening, she was the biggest music star in Hell and on Earth, but her fans are deserting her. For the fist time since she could barely remember, she was panicked; standing on stage with a frozen look of fear and nerves, her posse surrounded their boss. Although the succubi and inccubi worked for Verosika, she was still their friend.
"That's the funniest thing about parties, Ms. Mayday." Someone spoke to Verosika as he walked up the stage stairs. "Everyone stays for the music and food, but nobody wants to clean up."
Neither Verosika nor her posse saw anything like him. He must have been late teens or really early twenties as his face was boyishly charming. He stood at least six feet tall, had hair so blonde it could be mistaken as gold sprouting from his scalp, eyes as blue as the sky, and although he wore white suit with an orange shirt, you could make out the shape of his muscles. He approached Verosika so casually, it was like he didn't consider her a celebrity.
"You must be wondering, who killed the party?" He asked, his voice like honey for the ears.
Strange for the pop star, there was only one thing she could say. "Uh-huh." She said it like a moron.
"Sorry, if my associates were rough with your friends; but of all people, you could understand the stakes involved here." He gestured to the Pawns, who looked at the man with expressions varying from embarrassment to hunger or thirst.
"Uh-huh."
The man giggled. "Truly, it is childish. Squabbling and making bets, can you believe how ridiculous we've acted?" He offered a hand. "What do you say? We just call it quits now and you give us back our parking spot?"
"Uh-huh."
He waited, but Verosika continued looking at him with a dead expression. "Are you okay?" The man observed the rest of the posse; Coco was shaking like a leaf, Apple was completely pink in the skin but still in human form, Milky was drooling a small puddle at her feet, and Kiki awkwardly scratched her face and arms. For the male members, Josh and Ace had fallen to their knees while Kat was lying on his back like a scared puppy. "You guys are weird."
None of the demons understood why they were acting like idiots, but something primal in them reacted to this man's presence. Like they were dogs reacting the appearance of a wolf; an innate behavior compelled them to recognize the being before them was their superior.
From the corner of his eye, he spotted Millie getting her husband out a beer keg. "We'll have to talk later." He walked towards the imp couple.
Watching the unknown man leave, Verosika felt her higher brain functions return. "WAIT! WHAT WAS YOUR NAME!" She called out, trying to regain his attention. "I'M ON THE PILL!"
-Meanwhile-
Close to the beach, inside the ice cream shop, Blitz was eating his sorrows. Bowl after bowl, he shoveled in ice cream; and when he finished one, he told the waiter to bring another.
"Hurry up, Asshole! I'm trying to eat my feelings here!" He threw a spoon at the young man behind the counter. "Maybe I'll get lucky and die of either brain freeze or a stroke before diabetes!"
Pissed off, the boss of IMP kept eating without rest until he saw someone walk into the restaurant. It was Loona, avoiding eye contact as she slowly made her way to Blitz. For minute they said nothing; Blitz was too ashamed for making her so angry, and Loona was too ashamed about what she said. Both wanted to apologize for how they acted, but they were too stubborn to be the first to speak.
"Loona/Blitz..." They spoke at the same time.
"I'll go first." The imp raised his palm, reluctant to speak. "That guy is... No, I mean... I was... Why do I fail at everything I try." He lowered his head. "The circus, a boss, a father... I just can't do anything right."
Loona would normally give a snide remark, something that Blitz was expecting her to say. "Listen, Blitz. You... aren't do sobad as a dad."
Blitz couldn't believe what he was hearing, this was the first time since they met that Loona ever gave him a compliment. Touched, he began to cry and threw his arms open for a hug; yet before it could happen, his adopted daughter punched him in the face. Despite the pain, Blitz was none the less happy; and despite her irritation at him, Loona felt better now.
"Get up, Blitz. Let's go see you win..." Loona couldn't believe what she was seeing, off the beach coast an ominous wave began to rise. "What the fuck!?"
While the other side stories were going on, Millie was looking for her husband after he returned to the beach to check on Lincoln and their boss. Hearing knocking from a nearby pile of kegs, she went to check the situation. Busting open the one she heard knocking, her husband fell out drenched in beer.
"Moxxie!" Millie was both relieved to see him and concerned for her well being.
"Millie~" Drunk from nearly drowning in alcohol, Moxxie reached for the woman standing over him. "Hey... When did you get four heads? I wanna k-kiss 'em." He starts kissing air.
"What am I gonna do with you?" She lifts him in her arms.
"Good to see you two are fine." Standing before the imp couple, the blonde man spoke.
Recognizing who this was, Millie shook her head in amusement. "Sweetie, why are you playin' games right now?"
"Linky~!" The drunk imp reached for him, recognizing the man Lincoln in another form. "Ah, the Gilded Age! A time of great pride and oppression. Like an imp! You know what... being an imp, is like?"
"I've been an imp, Moxxie." Gilded Age Lincoln answered, laughing.
"So smart. Just like his ma." Moxxie sloppily hugged his wife. "I am so-o-o-o-o-o lucky! I have... you two."
A lighthearted ending to a perfect day, but horror arrived. Raising from the calm waters of the ocean in a massive, monstrous shape was a horror that casted its shadow over the beach. It was a giant fish monster straight out the works of a Hollywood creature feature. Most of the people attending the concert had left, but those who remained to witness the monster stared in astonishment. The creature surveyed the beach, finding it's next meal; but before it could eat anyone, all the humans ran for safety.
ROAR!Coming ashore, it made a blood curdling roar.
"Oh!" Moxxie was too drunk to register fear. "Pretty fishy."
Catching sight of the imp, the monster shoots its tongue like a frog and captures Moxxie, thinking of the experience as a carnival ride.
"What should we do!?" Lincoln asked Millie, letting her take the lead.
"I'm getting my man back!" The angry imp declared. "You get everyone here to safety!"
Surprised, he looked into the now shorter demon's eyes. "You want me tosave humans?"
"JUST LISTEN TO YOU MOMMA, YOUNG MAN!" Millie ordered.
"Understood! Take this!" He throws her a inactive grenade before doing as ordered.
The two went to their duties. Millie threw her grenade at the monster fish; it was strong enough to kill it, but the fish did lose balance and fall into the ocean. While she was gone fishing, Lincoln glowed a bright yellow and returned to his Sinner form and gakuran; opening portals before all the remaining humans, he sent them further down the beach out of harms way. To his surprise, Blitz and Loona was running down to see him.
"Please tell me I'm the only one seeing that!?" Blitz panicked at the sight of monster as Millie pried open its mouth.
"Boss, you give Millie support! Loona, Check on Vortex and sniff out any stragglers!"
Following instructions, the two hellborns split up. Seeing the coast was clear, Lincoln got a call on his radio.
{Lincoln! The perimeter is secured!} Martha called. {I'm with the others, what are your orders!?}
{Just make your way back, me and IMP should have everything cleared by then.}
Now that he didn't need to worry about collateral damage, the devil-tailed boy could go all out. "Looks like dinner is gonna be fish sticks." He was about to run towards his friends, but was caught by someone wrapping their tail around him; he turned and saw Verosika Mayday.
"Get out of here, Kid!" She yelled, carrying the boy off.
"Don't worry, I got this." Amused, he easily broke free and darted towards the shore.
Rescued, Moxxie fell into Blitz's arms as Lincoln arrived. "I love that woman~" The drunk imp's tail forms a heart.
"Yeah, she totally pegs you." The boss mischievously smiled. "Have you two gone over pegging yet?"
Too concentrated on his next spell, Lincoln waited until Millie was in the air. "BANG!"
Unlike the previous times when the white-haired boy used his magic gun spell, the concentration of mana into this beam was strong enough to vaporize the monster's entire upper half. Blitz looked at the boy, both amazed and afraid, while Millie made her way back to shore.
"Way to show off Mils!" Blitz congratulated.
"Lincoln!" She ran to hug her boy now that he was back to normal. "Are you and Moxxie okay?"
He gestured to the gun expert in their boss' arms. "Right as rain."
"Oh yeah, he's fine." The leader hands over Moxxie to his wife, to their equal joy.
"This is funny!" Mox hugs both Millie and Lincoln close. "I tell ya, I am so... drinky."
"Okay, this day has been too wholesome for my ass. Let's head out, Team!" Eager to leave this hallmark scene, Blitz leads his team out.
"Blitz-o." The condescending tone of Verosika broke his good mood.
"Lo and behold, it's our good friends, The Whores!" He unenthusiastically motioned to his ex and her crew. "Where have you been, taking a catnap while we clean house!?"
"Ha, that was handled a little too... obvious, don't you think." Smugly, Verosika pointed out IMP's actions outside of any human disguises.
"I don't think this belongs to us." Millie let Moxxie down and showed something she found floating in the water during her swim back; Verosika's flask, which she tossed to the singer. "It be a shame if word got out about demons letting a monster fish loose in the human world."
Realizing the implications, Verosika dropped her flask for Milky to catch, then hide as everyone else looked guilty.
"Oh, Satan!" Moxxie gloated. "You'd be so fucked! Haha... all of you'd be." He laughs.
"Yeah, well... you're little troupe of gremlins will get shit for not being in disguise!" Refusing to let them have the final word, Verosika rebuffed as Moxxie faceplants in the sand.
Weakly, he raised his head. "Humans thought I... was a possum. I am not a... possum." He falls again.
Lincoln stepped up. "We all can see there is one ending where you win." He stood in front of Verosika Mayday, smirking. "Wesaw nothing, andyou saw nothing. Sounds good?"
"As my associate says, we could keep this B-movie scene on the down low... if you give up our space?" Blitz offered.
Venom in her words, she agreed. "... Fine."
"WE FUCKIN' WON!" Triumphant, the boss of IMP laughs.
"To be honest, Boss..." Lincoln isn't as happy. "Feels like a moot point."
As IMP celebrated, Verosika looked at the little demon boy, recognizing him. "Wait, you're that imp kid. What happened to you?"
Giggling, Lincoln waited until his Pawns returned to his side. "Oh, I never said I was an imp."
On closer inspection, it was Kiki who recalled seeing this kid on Velvette's social media account. "Oh Fuck!" She nearly chocked on her words. "I know who you are... you're that Overlord."
This news shocked the rest of the sex demons, who looked at Lincoln with genuine fear. Even if Overlords were once humans, they still possessed more power than any non royal demon. And the one that was before them was only a child, but the power he displayed with the fish and portals was above anything an Overlord should be capable of.
"Please, call me... Playboy." He reluctantly used the name, as now the entire Overlord community knew him as that. "Before you say anything, it was intended to be in respect to how I can turn toys into weapons."
"Holy Shit!" Verosika made another connection. "You... you were that guy in the suit."
"Yep, that was me. I call that my Gilded Age, it makes me physically more powerful, but I'm greatly limited in spells I can use. I only really use it for a disguise or to make things more challenging."
Disgusted in herself, the pop star wanted to leave. "Come on, let's get out of here. Tex!" She called for her bodyguard.
The aforementioned hellhound was walking down the beach with Loona, both happy to have resumed their conversation. And that now the fish fiasco was over, they could return to the beach.
"Well, I gotta bounce." Vortex was disappointed to leave, he was having fun. "Listen, if you're ever down to party, I'll ring."
"Really!?" Loona beamed, but then try to act cool. "I mean, sure... yeah, if I'm open."
"You better be! My girlfriend throws aton of lit hound parties." He acted thrilled to have Loona over.
Loona, on the other hand, felt like a car crash when Vortex mentioned he wasn't single. "Nice... I can't wait to go."
Vortex chuckles. "Let's get you some more friends. Maybe you could invite those other ones the kid spoke of?"
"Others?" This surprised the young woman.
"He said you had more friends than you realized. Octavia, Star, Donatello, and Raphael? If they are anything like you and him, my Bee will never let you leave." He gives her a playful punch before following Verosika.
"Come on, Looney Toony! Let's go park and park our car in are fuckin' space!" Blitz called for his daughter.
As Loona dejectedly walked to the portal in the sand, Crescenta and Venus sandwiched her.
"Looks like someone made a new friend!" Crescenta playfully hugged.
"From what I saw, he wasn't interested." Venus patted Loona on the back. "Don't worry, maybe Raph will get jealous if you tell him about today?"
Loona perked, then Lincoln gave her two thumps-up as encouragement. "Maybe."
One by one, the hellborns and the Pawns jump into the portal as Verosika storms off, furious. Without saying a word, Blitz jumps up and gives her the finger on both hands, making her growl. She and her posse walk up to the streets but are greeted by various firearms being pointed at them. Terrified, they huddled together to feel some sense of protection; Apple held her girlfriend tightly while Josh sat on the ground like a scared child.
"Put your hands in the air, you sick deviants!" An officer ordered; it was quickly shown that the demons were surrounded by company of police officers.
Although their plan to win the bet failed, Verosika Mayday and the others still organized a concert that encouraged public drunkenness, disturbing the peace, loud noises, and sex in public. Annoyed, Verosika rose her hands in surrender. "Alright, sluts." She gained her crew's attention. "Time to suck a lot of pig dick."
Grimaced, the entirety of her group groaned.
Just as they were about to be handcuffed, the office stumbled and fell to the ground, sleeping. Similar to the officer, the rest of the police fell asleep. The sex demons watched in bafflement as cops were dropping to the ground and the helicopter above them slowly descended in a magical glow. Answering their unspoken questions, Lincoln walked up the stairs behind him.
"They should be wide awake in an hour or two, but I made it so they won't recall anything about your concert." Taking a long whistle, the three police horses moved toward the boy and he removed their riders with telekinesis. "All mares? That'll make things easier."
"Why are you doing this, Playboy?" Verosika asked, confused.
"You tried to save me back there." Lincoln smiled at her. "I didn't need help, but I appreciate the sentiment."
The boy snapped his fingers, and from a black and white checker portal a black, unicorn-like creature galloped out. It was Iron Hoof, the warnicorn Lincoln obtained in the Butterfly dungeon from Meteora the Relentless. He stopped before his master, facing Verosika Mayday. Now that his steed was here, Lincoln glowed yellow again to activate his Gilded Age; he watched as the beast leaned in closer to the startled succubus, giving her a few tiny licks.
"Interesting." The older Lincoln smirked, looking at Verosika with disheveled bangs. "He likes you."
Just like before, when she caught sight of the man's charming smile, Verosika blushed and went silent.
"I should really be thanking you, Ms. Mayday." Lincoln offered her a business card. "If you ever find yourself needing friends in high places, I'll give you great rate."
"Th-thank you!" She blurted, barely able to control her voice as she accepted the card.
"For what it's worth, I am sorry about Blitz. I know he's rude, opinionated, immature... I could keep listing but we two hours at best." He giggled. "People change, I've seen it. He might not admit it now, but he wants to be better; whether or not he'll apologize for it, I can't. But I promise, if he tries something like with you again, I'll cut his junk off with a butterknife."
Humored, Verosika laughed at the promise. "That shithead... he'll break you're heart, Kid." She spoke openly. "You might believe he can be better, but I never will."
Hopping aboard Iron Hoof, Lincoln smiled at Verosika, then revealed he swiped her flask when nobody was looking. "You inspired me. After seeing that fish, I realized I needed to step up my game."
Riding off into the portal, the Gilded Age Lincoln whistled for the police horses to follow in as the portal closed. While everyone else was stunned silent in his presence, Verosika smiled as he departed. Alone now, the demons were in disbelief at what just happened. It was frightening and magical at the same time. Now that he was gone, they all finally spoke their minds.
"Small question, is it statutory rape if one party can become legal with magic?" Coco asked, sharing the same smile the other girls had.
"I think it can only be statutory in that situation if there is an economic, social, or legal imbalance. So an Overlord that ages up and a Hellborn would not be statutory rape." Apple guessed.
Milky grinned at the couple. "If he died as a kid, I still think it would be an issue; then you have to remember, we live in Hell."
"I say it's like fishing. We can cast the line, but he'll need to take the first bite." Kiki considered the idea.
As the girls walked away, talking about their little 'predicament', the boys had different thoughts on the young Overlord. "That was, ah, not bad." Ace played off what the boy did. "A little cool, maybe. But just that, a little."
"You're right!" Josh was quick to add. "Those cops were the lucky ones. We could gotten out of that with no issues, probably."
"For real?" Kat spoke to the other guys. "I thought I was going to have a heart attack back there."
Vortex laughs, grateful for Lincoln helping them. "I know Bee is gonna be mad at me for keeping this a secret when she finds out; but what's a weekend of blue balls compared to a night of pig balls."
"You really gonna keep this a secret from her?" Verosika, unlike the others, knew about Vortex's girlfriend. "You really want to risk making her mad?"
"Some people might not understand her, but I know what kind of lady she is." Vortex had no fear.
Verosika thought about the mysterious boy named Lincoln, or Playboy, and how he always found away to surprise her. At first, she saw him as a way to screw with Blitz-o for how things ended between them. Now, she got to see just what kind of person he is; he was clever, compassionate, loyal, and when he looked at her, he never showed any trace of lust in his gaze. And when he was in his Gilded Age, she always saw something in his eyes when he faced her. Something she never saw in any of her fans or admirers, both in Hell and the human world.
"Hey, Tex, when he looked at me... what feeling would you say he had in his gaze?" Verosika asked her bodyguard, uncharacteristically open about her thoughts.
Vortex thought of this for a moment as they walked. "Well, in three big instances; you know, at the studio, on the stage, and with the cops. I'd say firstly, he looked at you with... disappointment?"
"Disappointment?" She asked back, confused.
"Yeah, like a teacher who knows what a student is capable of, but they refuse to apply themselves. Now, on stage, he acted like you two were old friends meeting up just to discuss old times. So maybe, that look in his eyes was... thankful? Maybe that's not the best word, but he looked at you like a competitor; he knew he had won, but he was thankful that you got to play."
Verosika smirked, a little flush. "And... the second time he did the golden hair thing?"
The bodyguard looked into the distance, thinking of Bee and how he, his friends, and all the other hounds looked at her when she threw a party. "Respect." He said, no doubt in his words. "In his eyes, that little Overlord had respect for you; he saw you... as an equal."
How many years has it been since she meet someone who saw her like that. Not as a sex symbol, or an asperation girls strive for, or as a famous singer, a succubus, or a way to pass the time. For all succubi, even ones like Verosika, you are either seen as an idol or a toy. Yet, here was someone younger but more powerful than her, and he saw her as someone deserving of his respect. Met with this unfamiliar emotion, the pop star's tail curled and she blushed.
The following morning, Lincoln walked out his room at the arena and joined the Pawns for breakfast. After the mission yesterday, he gave the girls the day off. Eating pancakes with his friends, Jill said something that caught his attention.
"I guess you didn't need need the contingency plan." She said, taking her finished plate away.
"We did not." Link proudly declared. "My special project worked with no complaints. One kill shot and the target comes back a new man."
Vesper talked more about the contingency plan. "Now that the foolish bet is over, do we get rid of the cupcakes?"
"Yes we do. Luna, where did you place them?" He asked the pink-haired girl.
Catching her fork in her mouth, she stared blankly. "Ah... you mean the ones for the moths? I... sent them while you were away."
Lincoln dropped his fork. "Dang it. They are gonna be out for blood."
Elsewhere in Hell, in the Lust Ring, Verosika Mayday wakes up in her king-sized bed yawning. She decided to lick her wounds over losing the bet by having a quiet evening at home with her posse last night. When they got to her penthouse the doorman said a package was addressed to her; the return to sender address was listed 'IMP Headquarters' and it was sent by 'Lincoln'. Happy about the package, Verosika took it upstairs; to their delight it was a box of cupcakes for each of the lust demons. After a night of cheesy movies, junk food, and alcohol, her friends passed out in the living room while Verosika went to bed.
Awake, she jumps off her bed, finding it to be different then usual. Then, she puts on her house-shoes and head to the bathroom, but found both her shoes and her robe felt bigger than usual.
Verosika pushes the door open and claps for the lights to come on. The pop star tried to turn the faucet but her hand hit the cabinet door underneath. Confused, she opened her eyes wider and found that her bathroom was bigger then when she fell asleep.
"Holy Cow!" A higher pitched voice yelled. It took a moment for Verosika to register it was her own. "Whose the poopy-head that messed with my bathroom!"
Strangely, when she tried to swear it came out cutesy. The succubus went back to her room when she saw a strange child wearing her robe and sleep mask. She had features a lot like her own, but her hair was shorter, done in a bob with a small ponytail. Even stranger, the girl mimicked everything Verosika did; moving in closer, a frightening thought came. She looked up, and saw that right in front of her was a mirror. Verosika touched the glass, her hand fighting perfectly in the palm of the child before her.
"FIDDLESTICKS!" Verosika learned the truth, she became a child.
