Chapter 717: Experience Value Equals to Three World Tree
Easley's words only served to bring a layer of confusion to Allen, who had no idea about the laws of the world.
«...Hmm, I guess I will stop the questions here.»
But it seemed that was all the Great Spirit God had to say about this, as he wrote off any further question. Allen's ears perked up as he took notice of that, and intently listened to what else the Great Spirit God had to say.
«I believe the former First Angel Merus-sama should have already informed you that spirit beasts are the embodiment of people who have strayed from the cycle of life, one that connects the human realm and divine realm. At the end, they would be left wandering around the divine realm.»
He also took note of the Great Spirit God's tone for Merus. It appeared, even for a Greater God like him, Merus, who had once served Creation God Elmea, was a target of respect.
"Yes. I have heard that defeating them would put them back in the circle of life. Perhaps, what you have said is connected to this effect?"
«Indeed. The gushing of the spring has increased slightly beyond the earlier pace, but this is the first iteration of such a sequence. Ah, I just hope Spring of Life doesn't get flooded and destroyed......»
In their last visit to Spirit Garden, the water level had receded to half as they had to offer much of Drops of Life to the human realm to cultivate Dark Elf's World Tree.
Allen only listened so far before he immediately linked the situation.
Perhaps, the water level of Spring of Life had been such an important topic that rocked even the divine world.
(So, this is why Sword God and Space-Time God showed their surprise, huh. It sounds like I kinda speedrun to clear out Beast God's Garden first, and then hunted down Spirit Beast, which ended up me skipping out on Spirit Garden's quest.)
In the end, Allen tried to understand the situation via a gamer mindset.
"Well, I am but a mere human being, so Your Excellency shouldn't need to waste your gratitude to me. It was all natural for me to play my role in the cycle of life. And above all, it could only be possible by everyone's effort. I wouldn't have even managed to budge the situation alone."
Concluding that Great Spirit God was, probably?, praising him, Allen took a gesture of humility, while also stating their achievement, making sure that the responsibility wasn't his alone. He also upsells his teammates.
"Wait, Allen! I wasn't even there with you to fight Nestirad or other spirit beasts!"
But in an unexpected turn, Cecil made it clear she hadn't done anything.
"You did. After all, everyone's put their best so that they can get you to Extra Mode."
(And besides, we hunted down so many spirit beasts mainly to get ourselves a spiritual aura recovery ring. But that's not important, yeah...)
Perhaps the amount of Drops of Life had already started to flood out when they'd hunted down Spirit Beasts at the Primal Beasts's Garden.
"Grr!! J-just you wait, you better be prepared for what's about to come when we're done!!"
«Haha! It's so like Allen.»
Perhaps the scene had tickled her, Rozen, sitting at the front of the altar, suddenly found herself laughing out loud.
«...Rozen-san. You shouldn't laugh.»
«!?»
However she immediately stifled that laughter when the Great Spirit God casted his pressure.
"Uh, well---ah, since there are plenty of Drops of Life, the World Tree in Dark Elves's village should be now comparable to Elves, right?"
Luck inquired, since he had just learned about the actual size of the World Tree during the wedding ceremony of Peromas, which had taken place at Fortenia, capital of Rosenheim.
«The guide of Dark Elves, with what we have grasped of the current scenario, it should be possible to grow as many as 5 World Trees.»
«5...»
The words of the Great Spirit God had Sophia speechless. Having lived near one of the World Trees herself, She finally had the full view of the grandiose picture.
The others didn't quite get what had her so shaken, but it did give them a glimpse of the current gravitas of the situation.
By general standard, even a single, huge World Tree was sufficient enough to bless the human realm sufficiently.
«Olbers should be receiving an immediate oracle through the cardinal, speaking to him about the changes that would soon greet the World Tree of Dark Elves village. At present, the best we can do is create ponds to contain the gushing spring, and divert the water to the two World Trees. However this is but a band-aid measure. *Sigh* My head hurts at the coming situation.»
Great Spirit God sighed. It appeared the current rising quantity of water wasn't going to just end yet.
"Woohoo! Then my village's World Tree should be getting bigger too!!"
A loud, rejoicing voice escaped from Luck when he heard it.
Atleast, someone was heartened. However, having been showered to so many indirect sarcastic remarks, Allen was in stark contrast with the bubbling dissatisfaction.
"Sure, there's going to be some hiccups in the beginning, but in the end, it'll only lead to a smoother circle of life. Meanwhile, I didn't even get a single level up, and to be blunt, the rewards barely compensated for the high-risks we had to take to fight Nestirad."
To be constantly at the butt end of condemnation would only be disadvantageous, so he also decided to be blunt with his thoughts.
They happened to pick the Magic God request in flow, and without any personal rewards, while literally engaging in a death battle, this was all they'd heard.
And moreover, though there was no denying the management of Spring of Life was going to be a headache, Great Spirit God and spirits were precisely to undertake these tasks.
Of course, there was the contract with God S summon, but that was an accidental fortune, something he wasn't expecting.
«...Level?»
Great Spirit God showed an amused expression as he gauged unexpected anger in Allen.
"Yes. I didn't get even a single level up."
«It could be that Creation God hadn't been expecting this trial---no, It sounds far-fetched. Alright... let me see the growth you have accumulated through trials... pfffft!?! Level 250?! Are you sure you're human, Allen-san? This is an absurd number for a human..."
An exclamatory shout escaped from the Great Spirit God, his towering physique almost was on verge of slipping from the altar due to the shock he felt.
"Hmm? I don't think there's anything surprising..."
«...Hmm."
For a short moment, Great Spirit God kept his gaze over Allen as he adjusted his posture.
The passage of time felt like an eternity under those silent stares, but the body gesture of the Great Spirit God hinted he was silent more so to select his next words.
"Well...?"
«... I have good relations with both the Old Gods, and New Gods. As the observer of the cycle of life, it matters not when a god has taken their shape.»
"I see..."
«So my words aren't meant to disparage any god.»
"I see........."
«Allen-san, an enormous quantity of experience currently resides inside you. It also includes what you should've from the defeat of Nestirad.»
"Woah, that much?!"
(No wait, the log didn't give me any level up notification though. It also didn't show me the value of experience.)
«Yes, that experience value is enough to make up three World Trees. To be frank, it's my first time to see someone harboring such massive experience value.»
"Three..."
"...World Tree."
Sophia and Luck repeated the word in unison, trying to comprehend the meaning behind Great Spirit God's words.
(Huh, it seems like everything is in the unit of the World Tree for the Great Spirit God. It's like the repetition of the Tokyo Dome and how many you can have. Anyway, I didn't know there was more to the 'Experience Value' than being simple stuff to raise the level. I wonder, if this is the true principle this world works on? Or maybe, it's how the laws God has laid out?)
It sounds like it wasn't just his previous world that often liked to use different things as units of measurement. Allen inwardly thought. But more than that, he was taken aback by the words of Great Spirit God.
It was as if he had touch upon the core law of the world, or of the gods. Experience point, Drops of Life, and World Tree---these three aspects were the pivotal part of the flow of this world.
«It would be useless revealing this to others. This is just mere advice, since you've not received your rewards. I believe this should become advice that will help you decide on your future direction.»
"I see. Thank you very much for divulging such an important topic. But I take it that this has nothing to do with why I am unable to level up, is it?"
«Indeed, even I have not understood the reason. However this just means it's one of the trials from Creation God. All I can tell is, the condition hasn't been fulfilled yet. Beyond that, even I am clueless.»
The explanation was a bit vague, maybe on purpose, but Allen had the gist wrapped.
(I take it that, I should just continue to raise my level as I have been doing? Hmm, I really haven't properly wasted time in leveling due to all the mess of gods. The log did show I have hit the level cap during the ground labyrinth. But I shouldn't have a hard growth limit... or, maybe I have yet to trigger the quest to clear requirements huh.)
With one objective finished, which was Cecil's trial, the task in Allen's mind was to seek out the scattered body of God S. But in tandem with it, it seemed he also needed to trigger an ascension sorta quest to remove the level cap.
The level limit being locked behind specific quests, often dubbed Ascension Quest, wasn't an unheard concept. This had existed in the memory of his past life too. They're the mandatory quests to become strong.
The only headache was, where to find the lead? Just as Allen was wondering where to find the clue, a sudden echo lured him away.
*Splash*
«Purunp~!!»
Something had just leaped out from the crevice of foothold, the same place Drops of LIfe were gushing out, and was just in time to interrupt further conversation between Allen and Great Spirit God.
The echo, akin to a chirp, lured Allen's gaze in that direction. However, he couldn't capture what it was as it just happened to dive into the water at the same moment.
"Spirit beastl!?"
"Sophia-sama!"
Something was clearly moving under Spring of Life. Formar, who had gone through battle against spirit beasts in the Spirit Garden, immediately jumped in front of Sophia to cover her.
Spirit Beasts were the beings who had their appearance changed---often, they looked like a mosasaurus or plesiosaur---after bathing into large amounts of Drops of Life.
There were several gaps in the platform covering the top, and the water surface on one of them rises dramatically. It appeared something was about to its appearance from inside the sparkling, muddy stream.
"Cecil, move to the centre of the group."
"A-Alright......"
"You too, Formar. Get in the formation."
"Roger!"
Cecil was only level 1 at that moment, so everyone---Allen, Sophia, Formar, and Luck---hastily surrounded him in a formation.
*Splash*
As the tension between Allen and team rises up, the thing beneath the water surface showed itself last.
The figure jumped out of the water, and leaped high into the air before landing on the stone surface, giving its body a shake to shake off Drop of Life.
"A mushroom?"
"Y-yes. It looks like a mushroom. It even seems to have arms and legs though......"
The mysterious figure turned out to be a mushroom about 50 centimeters in size. It had limbs growing from it, and a face carved on the pale white stem, and it's staring at Allen and the others with blinking eyes.
Its cap was bright red, much like a fly agaric, with white spots scattered across it.
(It looks like it would turn into a giant if I could get my hands on it, and level it up...)
The mushroom reminded Allen of a certain game scenario from his past life---an oddly-bearded man in blue overall always found himself rescuing a princess while running through fields with something
The more he stared at the mushroom, the more it evoked memories from his previous life.
"Purunp-!"
The mushroom let out another chirp, and just as the other attempted to comprehend meaning of its action, it once again jumped back into the swirling spring with a splash, and soon reappeared from another gap in the platform.
"This is Pecktan. It sprouted from the World Tree's seed and has grown this much due to the Spirit God's divine power and the Drop of Lifes."
"Oh? So this is Pecktan? It's... certainly different from what I expected. I heard it's the candidate for Grass S summon beast, but that's a fungus though? A far cry from grass type... is it the sapling of the World Tree?"
It's supposed to be a candidate for the Grass-type summoned beast, but it's a fungus... How is it even considered grass? A sapling of the World Tree?"
Allen showed his surprise when he learned the details, however as if cutting off the conversation, Pecktan jumped in front of Allen and the others.
