Chapter 3: Chapter 2: A Live Stream That Shocked Fu Hua
Chapter 2: A Live Stream That Shocked Fu Hua
The live stream finally had some comments, but Hokuto couldn't bring himself to feel happy about it.
In his past life, he had watched plenty of live streams, but this was his first time actually doing one himself. It was a little embarrassing to admit, but…
What was he supposed to do next?
Hokuto recalled how the streamers he had watched usually operated.
After clearing his throat, he smiled into his phone and said, "Welcome, everyone, to my stream. I am…" Just as he was about to introduce himself, he remembered the system's warning and quickly changed his words: "…a new streamer, the airborne split-kicking janitor."
The chat fell into complete silence.
Hokuto rubbed his forehead, realizing that his viewers probably didn't get the joke in his username.
But since he had already said it, there was no taking it back. He had to commit to his role as a streamer now.
"Ahem, about that figure who vanished in the rain…"
As he spoke, memories of his brief time with Himeko resurfaced.
The first time they met, he had been captivated by her mature, strong-willed aura. She was sharp-tongued but genuinely cared for her students, giving her a tsundere charm that made her even more endearing. Back then, Kiana and Mei were still just low-ranking Valkyries, carefree and full of youthful energy.
He had once thought those peaceful academy days would last forever…
But when Kiana was on the verge of losing control completely, it was Himeko who stepped forward, risking everything.
In the end, she gave her most rebellious student one final lesson…
And in the near future, when Kiana finally completed her transformation, she would come to understand just how truly great her teacher had been…
Not long after the Eleventh Honkai Eruption ended…
Fu Hua, who was about to be transferred to the Far East, sat curled up in the corner of her sparsely furnished room, hugging her knees. Her mind, however, was focused entirely on the live stream playing in her consciousness.
At first, she had assumed it was just another one of Flaming Moth's special training programs for the remaining thirteen MANTIS warriors.
She hadn't paid much attention at first, simply watching the CG in silence.
But when that red silhouette appeared on-screen, a sharp tremor ran through her heart.
Fu Hua often reminisced about her Captain's face. She had thought that, with time, she would eventually forget Himiko's appearance.
But just now—she had seen someone who looked so similar to her Captain!
What… was going on?
"Who is that person? Why did they stop talking?" Fu Hua pressed on.
"The CG said it, didn't it? Her name is Himeko," Hokuto answered honestly. "From the description, she's a teacher."
He then waited for Fu Hua to continue questioning him.
A good streamer didn't just entertain their audience; they also needed to engage with them, keep the conversation flowing.
That was how all the top streamers he knew operated.
"A teacher? Is that really all she is? I don't believe it," Fu Hua said, frowning.
What kind of teacher exuded that kind of presence? And that combat suit—she couldn't quite pinpoint its design inspiration, but based on her weapons and how she was portrayed in the CG, it was definitely not just for looks.
"Haha, if you don't believe me, feel free to keep watching my streams. I'll be playing this game for a long time, and as the story progresses, we'll eventually learn why Himeko made the ultimate sacrifice."
After saying that, Hokuto continued watching the chat.
After that brief exchange, the number of comments was finally picking up. His chat was no longer completely dead!
But just as he was starting to feel relieved, the chat fell silent again.
Huh? Did I say something wrong?
Hokuto stared at the eerily quiet chat, his brows furrowing.
Then, the system's notification rang.
[Due to your words, the viewer "Today's Performance Wasn't Perfect Enough" is shocked! You have gained 280 Crystals!]
What? She was shocked?!
What did I even say?!
I didn't say anything that crazy, did I…?
Just as Hokuto was puzzling over this, another viewer—"My Favorite Sister Bronya"—sent a message in chat.
"Did that lady… sacrifice herself? What a shame."
Seeing this comment, Hokuto suddenly smacked his forehead.
Crap, I just spoiled the story, didn't I?!
[Mission confirmed. Deploying drones to cover the Valkyries' boarding operation.]
The robotic voice from his phone pulled Hokuto's attention back to the game.
On the screen, a line of text appeared.
[Time elapsed since the Third Honkai Eruption: 2 years, 5 months, 16 days, 2 hours, 34 minutes, 24 seconds.]
After the text faded, a battleship soared through the city skies.
The camera followed as a twin-tailed girl appeared, her actions accompanied by a voice urging her onward.
"Kiana, hurry up."
"Yeah, yeah," Kiana muttered in response, then quietly added, "Easy for you to say."
As she spoke, a drone escorting her exploded after ramming into several Honkai Beasts midair.
Amidst the sparks, Kiana shifted into combat mode. She flipped backward in the air, summoned her mechanical cat claws, and stomped down on an incoming drone, sending it tumbling.
"So reckless."
With that comment, the opening cutscene faded to black…
When the screen brightened again, a massive skyscraper—its middle section severed—had collapsed onto another building.
With the intro complete, the game transitioned to actual gameplay.
Hokuto looked at the familiar white combat suit of Kiana in Battle Suit: White Comet and felt a wave of nostalgia.
As a veteran captain who had been playing since the game's early days, he had used this very Kiana to clear the story mode. But as more powerful Valkyrie battle suits were released, White Comet eventually got shelved away in his storage.
Still, her controls were simple, making her easy to get back into.
Without hesitation, Hokuto started maneuvering Kiana through the combat tutorial, following the game's prompts with smooth, practiced movements. It was effortless.
But as he got absorbed in the gameplay, another comment floated across the screen.
"What… exactly is this game?"
The sender's username was "Hard Work Will Be Rewarded."
The font was perfectly standard and rigidly formatted—almost as if the person behind it was a complete beginner to live streaming, someone who didn't even know how to change their font settings.
…Honestly, that fit Durandal's personality way too well.
Wait a second…
Hokuto froze.
Had he… forgotten something?
A moment later, realization struck him.
He had completely forgotten to introduce the game!
"Oh, wow, my bad! Let me introduce it now. The game I'm playing is Honkai Impact 3, a role-playing action game!"
"Honkai… Three???"
It was clear that Durandal was utterly shocked by the title. Otherwise, she wouldn't have sent a comment with three consecutive question marks.
Seeing her reaction, Hokuto grew curious.
Had she realized something?
"Yeah, it's the third game in the Honkai series. Why? Something wrong?"
