Chapter 167: Chapter 9: The Mentor's Medal
"Godly being... No wait, Sis, we don't even know your name yet! Although I don't understand how Sis knows our names, I should still introduce myself, shouldn't I!"
Yae Sakura's words left Kallen feeling somewhat odd. This was the first time someone other than Yae Rin had displayed such... peculiarity.
Not even the father from before would have...
But then again, we haven't known each other for very long...
"I'm Yae Sakura, and this is my little sister... Yae Rin."
"Sis... I should introduce myself," Yae Rin said with a hint of annoyance, noticing that Yae Sakura had taken the liberty to introduce her.
"Hehe, it's all the same," Little Yae smiled at Yae Rin.
"I'm Kallen... Kallen Kas... Kallen Kaslana... Just call me Kallen."
Kallen had initially prepared to introduce herself as Kallen Kaslana, but upon considering that there might already be another Kallen in this world, she decided against sharing the same surname.
Too easy to get confused, she thought.
While there were many girls named Kallen, having both the first and last name identical was exceedingly rare. So, Kallen opted to take her name from her Valkyrie armor instead.
"Kallen... Kallen..."
When Yae Sakura and Yae Rin heard the name Kallen, they muttered something to themselves, as if trying to memorize it.
-
Time slowly passed, and before long... the scorching sun rose high, already midday. Just as Yae Sakura had said, this place was quite peaceful; so far... they hadn't encountered anyone.
The three of them sat quietly under the tree, occasionally chatting and getting to know each other.
As Kallen suspected, Yae Sakura's feelings towards Yae Rin went beyond that of a typical older sister towards her younger sister; it was a severe case of younger sister complex.
Upon reflection, one of the reasons why Yae Sakura fell for Kallen in the manga was because she transferred her affection, guilt, self-reproach... and more towards Kallen, who stumbled into their village not from this world.
However, after Kallen rescued Yae Sakura several times, she... genuinely began to develop feelings for Kallen, while her emotions for Rin never truly disappeared.
-
Kallen remained silent about Yae Sakura's love for younger sister-like characters. So what if she has a thing for them...
While chatting, Kallen reviewed the main quest (1).
Having completed it, she swiftly claimed the rewards:
300 Crystals New main quest unlocked...
Before departing the previous world, Kallen had 7,510 crystals. Deducting the 2,400 used for the transmigration, she was left with 5,110 crystals.
Adding the 300 crystals from this main quest, her total now stood at 5,410 crystals...
Given that Valkyries in this world were of graduate-level strength, there was no urgent need to use the crystals. It would be wise to save them for later opportunities.
-
Main Quest (2): The Path of Instruction
Quest Description: As a once S Rank Valkyrie, the Gyakushinn Miko, do you feel nothing upon seeing the young Yae Sakura before you?
Quest Objective: In this world, take on three miko apprentices including Yae Sakura and train them to at least C-rank Valkyrie strength.
Quest Reward: 300 crystals, an unknown number of Mentor Medals, and unlock Main Quest (3)
Ai-chan's Tip: The number of Mentor Medals awarded depends on the strength of your three apprentices when they graduate... ranging from 100 to 99,999. These medals can be exchanged for crystals and Ai-chan's exclusive coins at a 1:1 ratio for crystals and a 5:1 ratio for the exclusive coins.
-
Take on apprentices, huh...
Yae Sakura glanced at the quest, then at the young Yae Sakura across from her.
Come to think of it, she had sort of taken on a half-apprentice before. Another miko... it was Kaede, little sister to Kikyō from Inuyasha.
On a lark, she had cultivated Kaede into a gun-wielding miko.
Now... the main quest demanded she take on three miko apprentices, one of whom was to be little Yae Sakura. But currently, she wasn't even a miko herself.
To "graduate," each apprentice would need at least C-rank Valkyrie strength. She recalled... in Schicksal, C-rank Valkyries were merely considered logistics support, right?
The quest itself wasn't difficult.
However, with three miko apprentices required, even including the frail Yae Rin, that still left her short by one... and this one needed to have decent aptitude.
-
Then there was the Mentor Badge among the rewards—isn't that from the master-disciple quest in Honkai Impact 3rd?
The 1:1 reward ratio with crystals seemed decent, but the 5:1 proportion with Ai-chan's exclusive coins felt excessive. If I did the math right... 5 crystals for only 1 Ai-chan coin?
That seemed like a huge loss... Swapping for crystals still seemed like the better deal.
-
"K...Kallen..."
While Kallen was deep in thought, little Yae gently called out to her. She seemed a bit uncomfortable using Kallen's name directly.
In the Far East, only those who were very close would address each other by name.
"Hm? Yae...what is it?"
Kallen snapped back to reality, looking down at the small figure before her.
"Where should we go next..." Little Yae gazed up at Kallen, her voice soft and tentative.
"Next? Of course, we're not going anywhere else."
"Eh? Not going anywhere? But..." Yae suddenly felt lost.
Although plans had changed, she had at least managed to "escape" with her sister. According to little Yae's original idea, their next step was to find a skilled doctor for her sister, then settle down somewhere with cherry blossom trees, so she could stay constantly by the side of her sister Yae Rin.
But now that Kallen was here, all previous plans and decisions were no longer viable.
"There's no place we need to go; we'll stay right here... From now on, Yae Village... will be under your authority, Sakura. No one will dare to question it." Kallen's idea was that instead of wandering the outside world, they might as well make this their home. As for the villagers, as long as they didn't interfere with them, everything would be fine.
If... they did interfere... Kallen wouldn't hesitate to teach them a lesson.
"However, without rain, the village's crops have failed completely. Staying here any longer... they'll continue just as before..." Yae Rin calmly stated the situation of the village at that moment.
"The issue of rain, I'll take care of it! As for Yae Village's villagers, as long as they behave themselves and stay as villagers, everything else is negotiable..."
Kallen had made up her mind. She would have Yae Sakura take over the village of Yae, and then... surely other deities wouldn't interfere here, right? So... Kallen could address the issues of favorable weather and abundant harvests, but it wouldn't be free...
She would definitely require... well, taxes, for example. As for how much, enough to ensure they don't starve would suffice...
This way, the entire village would essentially be working for Yae Sakura and her clan...
