Chapter 26: Chapter 25: The Conversion Ceremony
Kenji's voice was calm.
"The pursuit of a better life is natural. Lily, you did nothing wrong."
He smiled gently, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"We're companions, aren't we?"
His voice was firm.
Liliruca froze.
Her eyes widened, shimmering with unshed tears.
Then—
She lunged forward.
Small arms wrapped tightly around Kenji's waist.
A sob escaped her lips as she buried her face in his chest.
All the pain. All the loneliness.
They collapsed in that single moment.
Kenji sighed softly, gently patting her head.
"It's okay."
A promise.
A vow.
Then, he spoke once more.
"Lily, I officially invite you to join the Hestia Familia."
Lily tensed.
Then, slowly—
She nodded.
A new path had opened.
A path she chose for herself.
---
Kenji didn't hesitate.
He turned, stepping forward.
"Come on, we need to make it official."
Lily's eyes widened.
"Sir Kenji, wait! You're… You're not really going to face them, are you?"
Kenji smiled confidently.
"Just watch."
With that, he marched forward, Lily following behind with nervous steps.
The destination?
The Soma Familia's mansion.
---
The large iron gates of the Soma Familia creaked as Kenji pushed them open.
The courtyard was littered with adventurers, lounging carelessly.
The moment Kenji and Lily stepped inside—
All eyes locked onto them.
A man with narrow, sinister eyes stepped forward.
Sonnis Rustera.
LV2.
The so-called "Wine Keeper" of the Soma Familia.
His smile was sharp.
"Bringing outsiders into the Familia grounds, Lililuca?"
His voice was low, calculating.
"You should know better."
Lily flinched.
Her breath hitched.
The fear was still there.
Kenji stepped forward.
His eyes—cold.
"I want to see Soma."
Sonnis narrowed his gaze.
"God Soma isn't someone just anyone can meet."
His grin widened.
"And calling a god by name? That's just rude."
His hand lifted.
"Boys."
More than a dozen armed adventurers surrounded Kenji.
Swords drawn.
Eyes burning with hostility.
Sonnis sneered.
"You should have left quietly."
Kenji chuckled.
"You should have shut up."
Then—
He moved.
---
Kenji's magic circuits ignited.
A shockwave erupted from his body, cracking the ground beneath him.
Before anyone could react—
He vanished.
BOOM!
An adventurer flew backward, crashing into a stone pillar.
CRACK!
Another's arm twisted unnaturally, his weapon clattering to the ground.
One by one, each fighter fell.
Screams echoed in the courtyard.
In mere seconds, the battle was over.
Kenji stood alone, untouched, amidst a sea of broken warriors.
Lily stared in shock.
Sonnis?
He was barely breathing—his face swollen beyond recognition.
Kenji crouched beside him.
Voice soft.
Dangerous.
"Now."
"Take me to Soma."
Sonnis—trembling, barely able to stand—nodded frantically.
Kenji smirked.
"Good boy."
---
The deepest room of the mansion smelled of fermented wine.
Kenji pushed open the heavy wooden doors.
Inside—
A small man in a white robe sat before a massive distillery, pouring liquid from one flask to another.
His eyes—dull, unfocused.
He didn't react to their entrance.
Or to the groaning body of Sonnis, who collapsed beside him.
Soma.
Kenji's voice was firm.
"You are Soma?"
The god didn't look up.
Kenji scowled.
"I want a conversion ceremony."
Silence.
Then—
Soma finally glanced up.
His gaze drifted lazily to Lily.
He blinked once.
Then, with the calmest expression, he simply nodded.
No anger.
No sadness.
No resistance.
Just detached acceptance.
He performed the ritual without a word.
Then, as if nothing had happened—
He returned to his brewing.
Like Lily had never existed.
---
Lily stood frozen.
Her hands trembled.
She had imagined this moment for so long.
A final confrontation.
A chance to be acknowledged.
To be told she mattered.
Instead—
Nothing.
Not even a goodbye.
Her fingers tightened into fists.
Her chest ached.
Then—
Kenji's warm hand rested on her shoulder.
She looked up.
His eyes were gentle.
No words were needed.
Lily took a deep breath.
Then—
She turned away.
She walked toward the door.
Without looking back.
Without hesitation.
She had already chosen her path.
And this time—
She wouldn't walk it alone.
