His Genius Wife is a Superstar

Chapter 1640: Accidentally Murdering Her Husband

Iris Long and her friends laughed at Dom's dilemma with his niece and nephew. After a tough negotiation, Dom was able to "bribe" the two children to get him not only a glass of orange juice but another two plates full of food.

"Meow, meow, MEEEEOOOOOW!!!"

In the meantime, Iris listened to Ice Cream complaining about her Uncle Haohao. The fat, grey cat had no qualms about hissing at her uncle in between her complaints.

"Tsk." Lu Zihao sneered. "You've spoiled this brat so much that it even dares to complain about me. It doesn't know that I'm doing all this for its sake."

Iris sighed after hearing that her husband made an agreement with her brother to help Ice Cream lose weight.

She glanced at the complaining Ice Cream. She was all about accepting an individual no matter what, but Ice Cream's obesity was now getting out of control. The veterinarian had scolded Dom and the cat nannies so many times before because of Ice Cream's unhealthy weight.

So far, Ice Cream hadn't experienced any serious medical issues. Yet. Thank goodness for that. However, Iris wasn't stupid as to rely on luck alone. She knew that letting Ice Cream gain even more weight from hereon would only increase the cat's health risks.

In the end, Iris could only avoid looking at her cat daughter's eyes directly and hardened her heart.

'Sorry, Ice Cream. Mom is doing this for your sake. Mom wants you to live long and enjoy a healthy life.'

She forced herself to smile.

"Ice Cream, sweetheart. Listen to your Uncle Haohao's subordinates. Dad and Mom will reward you if you obey them and lose a little weight."

"Meow?" Ice Cream was shocked.

Lu Zihao sneered.

Ice Cream was too stunned to hiss at her uncle.

Then a squeak was heard. Everyone froze.

"Silence, everyone!" Long Jinjing said in a hurry before running to comfort Little Mochi.

All of them knew how difficult it was to put the fussy baby to sleep.

Iris muted her phone's microphone but didn't hang up yet. Although she missed her baby, she wanted to avoid letting Little Mochi accidentally hear her voice. She didn't want Long Jinjing and Lu Zihao to have a hard time lulling Little Mochi to sleep again.

Lu Zihao held his wife's phone instead and showed his sister how Long Jinjing comforted the fussy Little Mochi. Long Jinjing's expert movements were quick and smooth.

Little Mochi resisted at first after realizing that the one hugging him wasn't his mommy or daddy, but his Auntie Jinjing's pats felt too good. His teary eyes soon felt heavy. Then he heard his mommy's voice singing his favourite lullaby. After a few minutes, he soon fell asleep again.

Everyone sighed in relief again after making sure that the baby was finally asleep.

Lu Zihao turned off his sister's recorded track of her singing a Russian lullaby.

Soon, the phone call ended.

Iris sighed again. "I miss the children."

"Jinjing will take care of the kids," Jiang Ying Yue said. "Sir Zihao will also ensure their safety."

Iris looked at her. She could see that Jiang Ying Yue was also missing her son.

The two mothers temporarily pushed down their emotions to focus on the present. They could only remind themselves that this trip would only last for a few days. As soon as their business here was finished, they would return home and be with their children again.

Domingo and Reina Chua offered Iris and the others to sleep at their mansion, but Linda rejected her parents.

"Ma, Xiulan's schedule is full every day starting tomorrow," she said. "We don't have time to waste on traffic driving from here to Orchidia's headquarters."

Iris held Reina's hand. "Auntie, I'm sorry that I can't accompany you. I'm here on an official business trip, so I don't have too much free time. But my husband and I are already planning a family trip here next time with the twins. We'll have more time to spend together, then."

Reina squeezed her hand and smiled. "No need to apologize, Xiulan. I know that you're busy. Don't worry about me and your Uncle Domingo. Just go do your business. If you need something, just tell Dom or Linda. Also, if you want to eat something, call me. I'll cook it for you."

Iris and the others didn't stay at the Chuas for too long. By ten o'clock, they left and returned to the hotel.

Inside her hotel bedroom, Iris glanced at her phone while doing her skincare after a hot shower. Her husband hadn't replied to her messages. Ketchup told her that Jin Liwei wasn't done with his business tasks yet.

Iris sighed, feeling worried about her husband. She had a tendency to be a workaholic and her husband was the same. It was only due to their tacit understanding that both of them made tremendous efforts in their work-life balance.

In her bathrobe and damp hair cascading on her back, she walked to the glass windows of her hotel bedroom. Manila's night skyline wasn't the best that she had ever seen, but it had a gritty quality to it that felt unique.

It was almost midnight. She needed to sleep soon because her schedule would start early tomorrow.

She was about to dry her hair when her bedroom door opened. She immediately went into a defensive position, quickly grabbed the complimentary wine bottle, and was ready to whack the intruder.

Dom and the others wouldn't just open the door without knocking. If the person wasn't any of them, then it could only be an intruder.

She raised the wine bottle at the same time that the intruder stepped inside.

As soon as Jin Liwei stepped inside, he saw the shadow of something hurling in his direction. He immediately dodged and rolled to the side.

His wife's shocked exclamation sounded in the room.

"What?! What's happening?!! Boss, Sir Boss, are you alright?!!!"

Dom, Jiang Ying Yue and Lin Yehan all ran to check the commotion. A bodyguard assigned to stay with them at the suite followed behind the three.

"Liwei? Is that you?" Iris ran to Jin Liwei and tried to help him up from the floor. "I'm so sorry, darling! I didn't know that it was you!!!"

Jin Liwei groaned and rubbed his shoulder. He hit it against the bed frame when he rolled on the floor just now.

"No worries, love. I'm fine." Even though he said this, his heart continued to race.

He glanced at the broken bottle, the wine quickly pouring out and soaking the carpeted floor. If he hadn't dodged in time, it would have hit him squarely in the head. With his wife's deadly accuracy, he could be seriously injured if his survival instincts had failed him.

Iris, of course, realized this as well. She was so distressed and guilty that her eyes reddened.

"What on earth happened?" Lin Yehan stepped inside the bedroom and observed the scene.

He quickly pieced together what happened and couldn't help but chuckle. "Third Brother, you're lucky that Third Sister Xiulan was just holding a wine bottle and not a gun."

Jiang Ying Yue discreetly elbowed him out of the way as she grabbed Jin Liwei's arm and pulled him up to his feet in one go. Then she and her colleague, the other bodyguard, began cleaning up the bottle shards while Dom called the concierge to inform them about the wine stains on the carpeted floor.

Lin Yehan rubbed his nose. His usual gentle smile was now filled with amusement.

Jin Liwei had no time to deal with his sworn brother. He was focused on comforting his guilty wife.

"It's not your fault, love," he told her. "It's my fault for not informing you in advance. I wanted to surprise you but forgot that you'll be extra cautious in an unfamiliar place in a foreign country. You did the right thing. What if I were really an intruder? I'd rather you attack now and check later than risk your safety."

Dom and Jiang Ying Yue also comforted Iris.

She nodded but still felt sorry for her husband.

After the others left, Iris helped Jin Liwei remove his now wrinkly business suit. There was a big, ugly bruise growing on his shoulder. Iris began to feel distressed again.

"This is nothing." Jin Liwei tried to reassure her, but she only felt more distressed.

She immediately called Dom and asked him to get a cold compress. Five minutes later, Dom returned with a cold compress and a local medicinal oil before returning to his own bedroom in the suite.

Iris first applied the medicinal oil on her husband's bruise, her movements extremely careful. Then Jin Liwei pressed the cold compress by himself.

Now that both of them had calmed down, they started chatting.

"I thought that you were coming tomorrow," Iris said. "Why did you come so early?"

Jin Liwei followed his wife's movements across the bedroom with his eyes. "I rushed to finish my business so that I could be with you earlier than planned. I couldn't wait any second longer."

Her heart softened. She trotted to him and gave his mouth a quick peck. Before he could catch her for a deeper kiss, she escaped and started drying her hair with the hair dryer in front of the mirror.

"I missed you too, Liwei. I was a bit worried earlier because you hadn't replied to my messages and missed calls after so long. Ketchup said that you were still busy."

"I asked Ketchup to keep it a secret. I wanted to surprise you."

Iris smiled before becoming serious. "That was dangerous, Liwei. I could've hurt you badly. Next time, please give me a warning. I don't want to be a woman known for accidentally murdering her own husband because he just wanted to give me, his wife, a surprise."
