Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Says Who?
Obelia slowly turned around and saw a very old wizard, he gave off the feeling of a wise man you meet at night randomly giving you the best life advice you had ever heard, but to Obelia, the advice she was receiving was only to run away.
"Hello Headmaster! What brings you here?" Obelia asked tilting her head, 'Should you be planning on fighting Voldemort or something?'
Obelia ignored the stares she was receiving from many students, Draco who had won the duel also walked over to her but stopped when she continued talking.
"Oh my, is that a dragon!?!" Obelia said in a shocked voice pointing right behind Dumbledore, unlike the other students he didn't immediately turn around, he glanced at Obelia's finger and slowly turned around, only to see nothing.
Dumbledore shook his head and sighed, turning back only to find Obelia no longer standing there but running away, and she was surprisingly very far already. Draco who was witnessing the event unfold followed Obelia from behind.
"OBELIA WEVER GET BACK HERE THIS INSTENT!" Dumbledore's loud voice echoed in the student's ears, even Draco and Obelia were stunned at how loud it was, causing them to freeze suddenly.
Obelia slowly turned around to face Dumbledore, even when they were multiple feet apart there was a direct line of view as the students parted. Draco moved away from Obelia, standing behind her yet a bit further than their usual distance.
"Headmaster…" Obelia said glancing away from Dumbledore and unintentionally making eye contact with Harry Potter.
He wasn't injured, he had a bit of dirt on him and his clothes were a bit wrinkled but nothing worth worrying about. Obelia let out a small smile since she didn't fail her task completely, he was still breathing and standing on two legs.
"Obelia Wever, what did I tell you before school started?" Dumbledore asked, completely ignoring the students in the courtyard and looking directly at her.
'I thought Dumbledore was a wise old man who was always composed… what is this about?' Obelia thought before rolling her eyes unintentionally. Dumble took notice and proceeded to walk towards her slowly. "Or do you not remember my warning?!"
Obelia took a few steps back, remembering Dumbledore's warning about not causing trouble and his request to keep Harry safe.
She took a look back at Harry and tilted her head. "He looks perfectly fine to me." Obelia said turning back to Dumbledore and continued, "I also got permission from Snape to host the Duel." Obelia said pulling out a small folded piece of paper and handing it to Dumbledore, it read-"Do whatever" in a very fancy font and had a small signature in the corner.
"This just says 'Do whatever' Obelia…" Dumbledore says checking for forgery in the small paper. Obelia who noticed got offended but didn't speak up and explained.
"Well we were talking about the duel so I took it as 'Do whatever you want for the duel.' And did just that." Obelia took the letter from Dumbledore and looked around, she singled to Draco to bring Snape over and turned to look at Dumbledore to continue.
"I don't see any problem here, I didn't break the promise and no one is hurt, so can't we just forget about this a move on?" Obelia said rolling her eyes trying to buy time for Snape to show and distract Dumbledore while Draco and her run.
"That's the problem Obelia, you believe you did nothing wrong," Dumbledore said with a sigh, he glanced at the other students who were still in the courtyard and signaled them to leave. It was late Friday and curfew was near so once the duel was over some left but most stayed, hearing Obelia get lectured.
That included Harry, Ron, Hermione, Goyler, Crabbe, Pansy, and Daphne who were watching from a close distance.
Harry felt uneasy, while he lost the duel and left Gryffindor feeling disappointed all eyes suddenly shifted to Obelia, no one even seemed to care all that much about the duel anymore. He also disliked the way Dumbledore and Obelia seemed close, to him Dumbledore was an amazing person who was great and wise, and while he hadn't run into Obelia often he could tell, she was prideful and sly.
"So… tell me… what did I do that was so wrong? And what makes you think you are so right?" Obelia said, it made her sound full of herself and sassy, but only Dumbledore could tell she was asking a genuine question, truly believing she was in the right.
"Obelia…" Dumbledore said with empathy and shaking his head. Obelia who noticed didn't enjoy the look and frowned, her frown quickly went away as she heard familiar footsteps behind her.
"Good to see you, Professor." She said turning about and giving a slight bow, a sign of respect. Snape grew closer walking towards them, while Obelia got further from Dumbledore, exchanging places.
"Severus, may I ask you what brought you here so suddenly?" Dumbledore said glancing at Obelia who was about to make a great escape with Draco.
"Well, I heard one of my students had won a duel, while it's only natural for us to win, I thought I'd say my congratulations," Snape said signaling for Obelia and Draco to go run along. Obelia noticed and both she and Draco took the chance to disappear into the crowd.
Snape and Dumbledore's conversation wasn't as interesting as the students had hoped, so many students disappeared and now only Harry, Hermione, and Ron were listening.
Harry hadn't seen Dumbledore and thought it was a good chance to chat with him, but Hermione was hesitant, and Ron didn't seem to want to either. Harry decided to give up after Snape shot a glare in their direction, but he was still disappointed and walked away bitterly.
___
"I'm sorry, you all trained me so well, yet Draco was prepared for all of my attacks," Harry said to Hermione and Ron, and both turned to look at each other and comfort him.
"Well Draco's from a pure-blood family, he knows way more than you," Ron said, and Hermione decided to follow. "You just started learning magic Harry, you held your own well in that duel." She said softly and patted his back, glancing at Ron again for him to say something.
"Don't worry, we will definitely get revenge!" Ron said enthusiastically, but that left Harry and Hermione with a confused face.
"Revenge?" Hermione said, not wanting to get into trouble.
"Like what?" Harry said, confused yet curious to know what Ron was planning.
Obelia and Draco who were on their way to their common room suddenly felt a chill on their backs and turned to look at each other uneasy.
"They're not bitter about losing right?" Obelia asked, thinking they would forget the loss and move on. Draco shook his head and frowned, "knowing how stubborn Gryffindor is, they definitely are."
