Chapter 14: Exam genius!

Neither of them objected to Ron joining.

What followed was the now-familiar scene: Harry showing off his scar, Ron marveling at it, and the group chatting about various aspects of the wizarding world.

Harry expressed his worries about his lack of magical skills, but Ron's comforting words seemed far more effective than any reassurances Devero, the "overachiever," could offer. Harry visibly relaxed a little after hearing Ron's perspective.

During this time, Devero had already checked Ron's traits.

Well... as expected, they were consistent with his depiction in the original books.

Aside from a basic [Magical Ability (Blue)] trait, Ron didn't have anything particularly noteworthy.

As a supporting character in the original story, especially when compared to Harry, who was stacked with high-level traits, Ron's traits seemed rather lackluster.

Soon, the snack trolley arrived.

Harry, in a generous mood, bought an assortment of sweets, and the two "poor kids"—Devero and Ron—were more than happy to indulge.

Ron was from a humble family and rarely had the chance to enjoy these treats.

Devero, on the other hand, had grown up under Snape's strict and stingy care. He wouldn't dare show the slightest desire for snacks, as that would almost certainly result in double the workload for his potion assignments.

As Harry bit into a pepper-flavored Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean and started coughing uncontrollably, the door to their compartment suddenly slid open.

In stepped a bushy-haired girl, followed by a round-faced boy who was sniffling and teary-eyed.

"Sorry to bother you. I'm Hermione Granger, and this is Neville Longbottom. We're looking for his lost toad. Has anyone seen Neville's toad?"

At her words, both Harry and Ron turned their eyes toward the sleeping toad on Devero's shoulder.

Neville looked over too, but it was immediately clear that Devero's toad was not Neville's. Devero's toad, Errol, was much larger.

Devero shrugged, gesturing to indicate that his toad was definitely not the one they were looking for.

Inwardly, however, he was wondering, Why is Hermione with Neville? Have I accidentally altered events somehow?

Curious, he quickly checked Hermione's traits.

[Name: Hermione Granger]

[Age: 11 years old]

[Traits: Test Taker Extraordinaire (Purple), Magical Talent (Purple), Potion Perception (Blue)]

[Test Taker Extraordinaire (Purple)]: Exceptionally skilled at reading textbooks, with a memory far beyond the average person, enabling you to excel in all kinds of exams with ease!

Wow. Devero couldn't help but marvel.

Hermione's talents were impressive. Apart from Harry, she had the best trait setup of anyone he'd seen so far on the platform.

And surprisingly, she even had a trait related to potions!

Now that Devero thought about it, it made sense. After all, in her second year, Hermione had successfully brewed the Polyjuice Potion all on her own—a feat that certainly required some level of innate talent.

The trait Devero coveted the most, however, was [Test Taker Extraordinaire].

Though Devero was a magical prodigy, his talents were mostly practical. For heavily theory-based subjects like History of Magic, he suspected he would struggle just as much as Harry and Ron.

With this trait, life at Hogwarts would undoubtedly become much easier.

So, without hesitation, Devero added it to his Trait Queue.

"Sorry, but I don't think we've seen it. However..."

Snapping out of his thoughts, Devero stroked his chin, an idea suddenly forming in his mind.

"What's the toad's name? I might have a way to find it."

"Really? His name is Trevor!" Hermione's eyes lit up with excitement as she eagerly looked at Devero, waiting to see what he would do.

Devero nodded, drew his wand, and whispered, "Accio Trevor!"

Whoosh!

A loud whooshing sound broke the air, and within seconds, a toad came flying from one of the distant compartments straight into Devero's outstretched hand.

He caught it easily and handed it to Neville, who was overjoyed.

"Trevor! You found him!" Neville exclaimed, his sadness instantly replaced with delight.

"Wow! What spell was that? I don't remember reading about it in any of the books!" Hermione leaned in closer, staring at Devero's wand in awe.

"That's the Summoning Charm, Accio. It's part of the Standard Book of Spells, Grade 4. It's pretty practical, so I decided to learn it early," Devero replied casually with a smile.

"What?! I've only just finished memorizing the Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1! I'm already so far behind—what am I going to do once school starts?"

Hermione's face fell as she mumbled in a mixture of sadness and anxiety.

The others, meanwhile, were staring at Devero in shock.

Learning fourth-year spells as a first-year? That was unheard of. Neville was so astonished that he almost dropped Trevor again, barely managing to catch him at the last moment.

Even Harry, who had been reassured by Ron earlier, now looked more nervous than ever.

Seeing their reactions, Devero couldn't help but smile wryly.

While he marveled at Hermione's impressive memory and determination—she had already memorized the entire first-year textbook, a feat that put her ahead of most students—he tried to offer some reassurance.

"Actually, Hermione, memorizing the first-year materials already puts you ahead of almost everyone else," he said.

However, his words didn't seem to do much to lift Hermione's spirits. She still looked visibly anxious.

But when she glanced at Harry, her eyes lit up.

Suddenly, she moved to sit across from him, pulling out her wand with a confident smile.

"Hehe, I don't know many spells yet, but I can show you one of the simpler ones I've learned. Like this—"

Hermione pointed her wand at the bridge of Harry's glasses and said clearly, "Reparo!"

A soft glow emanated from her wand, and in an instant, Harry's broken glasses were perfectly mended.

The first-years in the compartment were amazed.

Neville even cheered loudly, holding Trevor high above his head with a wide grin on his face.

Whether his excitement was due to Hermione's skill or simply because his toad had been found, no one could tell.

Harry, too, was delighted.

"Thank you, Hermione! That's incredible!"

Ron, on the other hand, looked eager to show off his own magic. Gripping his wand tightly, he said, "Hey, I know a spell too! It's just... uh, it doesn't always work perfectly…"

Though his voice carried a note of uncertainty, Ron's enthusiasm was clear.

Hermione, meanwhile, gave Devero a proud look, her expression seeming to say, See? I'm not bad at magic either!

Devero chuckled and clapped for her, nodding in approval.

At that moment, the door to their compartment slid open again, revealing a pale boy with platinum-blond hair flanked by two burly companions.

The boy's eyes swept over the group with an air of arrogance and disdain, clearly unimpressed by the lively chatter in the compartment.

Finally, his gaze settled on Harry.
