Hogwarts: I can see Magic Paths

Chapter 6: Chapter 6 - The Sorting

Standing in a large pack between tables, Felix watched as Professor McGonagall placed an old hat on a wooden stool. He just lightly hummed as truth be told, he was curious how this hat was made and how it lasted this long. However, he was more concerned about the looks Professor McGonagall kept sending his way.

He felt if he even had a hair out of place, he would be hauled to the Headmaster Office. Which didn't make much sense to him, truth be told. From what he was aware of, the professor shouldn't react as such upon just his last name. Sure, a man who shared his name basically brought half the wizarding world to its knees. However, that was someone he never met and besides there is a new Dark Lord roaming about.

"Why does the professor keep looking at you?" Angel asked him.

"Maybe because I am a handsome boy? They say older women like young boys like me." Felix replied with a bad joke.

"You look decent in appearance." Angel replied. "Not enough to make others swoon over you though."

Felix tried to look offended at such words, for he was a nice looking boy. Sure he looked like a serious ill person from time to time, but he was a good looking boy. All the nurses his father works with say so, hence it must be true.

While the two lightly bickered, the first couple names were called. Before a familiar name was called out.

"John Bell."

Upon watching the boy from the boat ride walk up to the old hat. It sat on his head for nearly thirty seconds before the hat moved.

"Gryffindor!"

"Thought for sure he would go to Hufflepuff." Angel sighed.

"How? He might be a bit quiet and not outspoken. However he has the courage to chase his dream and his grandfather's dream that went on for three generations." Felix replied offhandedly. "Besides, it's just a school house and doesn't really mean much truth be told. Everyone has traits of all four houses and more, not to mention we all learn the same thing in class."

"That's what my mother says." Angel huffed.

Soon more children went up and were sorted, many that Felix don't remember from the series. Which makes sense since he is in a slightly weird period as most of the Death Eaters were sorted a few years before him or graduated. Finally, it was his turn.

"Felix Grindelwald."

The noisy hall went down quite a few notches as many eyes shifted and even a few professors turned in their seats. In small and calm steps, Felix walked forward with a small yawn as the hat was placed on his head. Where the hat's old and slightly grouchy hat voice filled his ears.

"Boy, what's going on with you?" The hat grumbled. "I can't sort you because all I can see is a bunch of lines."

"Well, just put me wherever as long as it's not Slytherin. Maybe not Gryffindor or McGonagall might have a heart attack." Felix said softly.

"Haven't seen that scene for nearly four hundred years." The Hat muttered. "Might as well give it a try."

"Gryffindor!"

Felix sighed a bit since besides a few students and the Headmaster. No one really applauded as Felix headed to the Gryffindor table. Where upon taking a seat only John remained while the others put enough space between him and them.

"Wow, you seem braver than the rest of the Gryffindors." Felix jokes.

"I feel they are overreacting." John said softly.

Nodding, the sorting continued and Angel joined the pair at the Gryffindor table. She stated that the hat wanted to place her into Ravenclaw, but since her two new friends were a part of Gryffindor alongside her brother. She asked the hat to place her there too.

On a side note, Gilderoy Lockhart was sorted into Ravenclaw. Where he received a lukewarm applause and seemed slightly dissatisfied.

Once the rest of the remaining new students were fully sorted, Dumbledore stood up and tapped on his glass. Soon the entire Great Hall was silent as the headmaster began a small speech.

"I welcome everyone back from their break and new students for a new school year. Many of you I am sure are excited to fill that brain of yours after emptying it over the summer break." Dumbledore lightly jokes. "Now, before I begin the welcoming feasts, I will like a warm welcome to Professor Alice Macmillan who will be this year's Defense Against the Dark Arts professor."

A light applause was given by the older students while the younger ones were more energetic. It was understandable since Albus Dumbledore rejected Tom Riddle. No professor in this class was able to hold it for more than a year. Something Felix will probably look into if he feels ambitious enough.

The woman in question was a young woman in her mid twenties by the looks of things. She had blonde hair and blue eyes which was fairly common. The woman didn't seem very tall and truth be told in Felix's eyes. She didn't seem all that pretty but more plain and barely a minor character within a movie with a line or two.

Now that is not to say she couldn't be a knowledgeable witch, for all he knows. However, Felix just gave the woman a small glance before shifting his focus to the table. For food began to appear before everyone.

Picking up a bit of chicken, and a little bit of this and a bit of that. Felix had a small simple meal that was more in line with his diet. Upon learning he will be going to a boarding school, William and Mr. Granger gave him a list he must follow strictly.

So when all the deserts appeared before him, Felix wanted to cry a bit as he took a small piece of apple pie. Since he could only give a longing look at the rest of the deserts before him. Soon, the food vanished and Dumbledore grabbed everyone's attention.

"Now that we are fed and watered, I will go over a few reminders. The forest on the ground is forbidden and a few older students will do well remembering that. Magic shouldn't be used wildly in the halls, for we have special rooms setup to practice in. Finally, I will restate, no matter your standing on the issue currently rampaging outside these halls. I will not tolerate those that wish to bring it within these halls."

It was basically a clear threat, however only a few showed a bit of annoyance at such words. The blood war Voldemort has been waging has been going on for about six years now or so. Hence most people know which families stand on which side.

As for why so many known followers or suspected followers got out later on during the story. That was more their gold and connections to corrupted ministry members doing the work.

"Are you ok?" Angel asked, a bit concerned.

While Felix was a bit lost in thought, he followed the rest of his house members to the Gryffindor Tower. Yet, upon climbing so many stairs, well, it made him winded and want to roll over to sleep for a while. Since normally he should be fine if he didn't need to go up and down all these stairs, but who also made him travel from London to here in the same day.

'Maybe, I should have begged to be put into Hufflepuff. Maybe I wouldn't need to climb so many stairs.' Felix thought to himself.

"I will be fine." Felix sighed. "Just so tired."

Upon walking into the Gryffindor Common Room, upon hearing which side he needed to go. Felix found his room and flopped onto the bed. He was soon asleep within a matter of seconds the moment his head touched the pillow.

As for his roommates? Felix will figure out who they are later when he wakes up.
