Hogwarts : leveling up the world

Chapter 147: Chapter 146 - War, Part 1

As the sun set, night descended upon the city. Asmodeus, along with the highest-ranking wizards, stood on the city walls, peering into the darkness and periodically inspecting the soldiers assembled below. Their position allowed them to react swiftly to any attack, enabling them to both strike and bolster the barrier surrounding the city.

"They're approaching," Grindelwald stated firmly, his eyes fixed on the horizon.

Hearing Grindelwald's warning, Asmodeus and the others focused their gaze into the distance. They all felt a massive source of mana drawing near. Asmodeus, sensing this, immediately drew his staff from his back. With two taps on the ground, he transformed it into a standard wand. Pressing the wand to his throat, he projected his voice loudly:

"Front lines, prepare! If you feel you can no longer hold the defensive line, retreat behind the barrier! All wizards, ready Fiendfire spells! Last line of defense, be prepared to dispel the enchantment! All civilians and non-combatants, seek shelter in the castle! If you're not a combat wizard, you may Apparate away from the battlefield!"

The city stirred into action at Asmodeus's command. Soldiers readied themselves for battle, and civilians began to retreat and barricade themselves within the castle. After some persuasion, Sansa and Tyrion also moved inside. Watching them leave, Asmodeus nodded with satisfaction and stepped to the left, away from the other high wizards.

He approached a short man clad in the armor of the Order of Flame. Placing a hand on the man's shoulder, Asmodeus spoke to him telepathically:

"Calm yourself, Frank. It's me. I have a special task for you. I'm giving you a bag containing an invisibility cloak and a sword. If even one undead breaches the castle or if it is damaged in battle, you must kill Sansa and Bran Stark. Make it appear as though they were slain by the White Walkers."

Frank merely nodded, accepting the small pouch Asmodeus handed him. He then swiftly left the battlefield. As he was neither a commander nor a crucial part of the defense, his absence would likely go unnoticed for some time. Additionally, Asmodeus could cover for him if necessary. Watching Frank slip away, Asmodeus nodded in satisfaction.

Feeling that everything was in place, he turned his full attention back to the battlefield. He discreetly rejoined the other wizards and waited. Gradually, all the wizards began to sense the immense source of mana drawing closer. Some of the less battle-hardened wizards were about to attack, but Asmodeus's voice halted them:

"Not yet!"

"Not yet!"

"Not yet..."

As Asmodeus stopped the attack for the final time, an army shrouded in a blizzard began to materialize in the lands illuminated by the barrier. Seeing this, Asmodeus shouted:

"Ready yourselves!"

'Come closer...'

"FIRE!"

With Asmodeus's command, all the wizards on the battlefield, including the high wizards, quickly chanted their spells and poured all their mana into them.

"FIENDFIRE!"

The roar echoed across the nearby lands, and at last, the ordinary soldiers—muggles—saw the army of the dead illuminated by the crimson flames.

A sea of fire engulfed the army of the dead, and the walking corpses ignited instantly, bursting into flames like dry straw drenched in gasoline. Witnessing such effectiveness, Asmodeus doubted whether he and the other high wizards alone could have achieved such an effect. Perhaps this was the power of the collective?

Asmodeus watched as the fire advanced further and further, consuming everything in its path, even the storm that veiled the horizon. But this did not last long. Suddenly, from a place untouched by the flames, a blue light began to rise. Under this light, the fire began to retreat gradually. Remarkable! The flame that no one could extinguish without a counter-curse was now receding!

Seeing the situation from afar, Asmodeus turned to Dumbledore and Grindelwald and said, "Shall we add more power?"

"Hahaha, since Paris, I've never had such a desire to burn something!" Grindelwald said, Apparating straight to the ice giant emitting the blue light. Watching his friend and lover move, Dumbledore quickly followed suit.

Seeing that the battle had officially begun, Asmodeus shouted, "Attack!"

Hearing Asmodeus's command, all the soldiers below charged into the fight. Some shouted, "For the living!" others cried, "For Jon Snow!" while some praised the Khaleesi. But their voices were drowned out by the unified cry of the Order of Flame members: "FOR FIRE AND MORNINGSTAR!"

In an instant, the battlefield ignited! The previously held formations began to reform rapidly, but it didn't matter, as the dead could not overcome the wizards and couldn't even kill Daenerys's and Snow's soldiers, who were also protected by wizards. The army of the dead, numbering in the millions, started to thin out almost instantly.

With the first wave of fire magic, the wizards destroyed around 500,000 wights! Now, with a more targeted attack, the damage was still immense! As the multi-million-strong army was pushed back by a few hundred thousand, in the center of the battlefield, the trio launched various spells at the ice god.

"Expelliarmus!"

"FIENDFIRE!"

"Bombarda!"

The giant was under constant attack from all sides, losing body parts continuously. But the problem was that whenever one part was destroyed, a nearby wight would replace it. Seeing this stalemate, Asmodeus shouted, "Hey! Old-timers! Do you have any idea how to kill this thing? We can't just keep hitting it until we run out of wights!"

"Do you have a better idea?" retorted Grindelwald.

"No, that's why I'm asking!" Asmodeus snapped back.

"And why do you think we'd have one?" Dumbledore quipped.

Despite their banter, Asmodeus knew that while their method of attacking the entire army was slow, it was reliable. He just felt like chatting to pass the time.

"Since we're going to be here for a while... guys, what do you think about calling in the rest of the high wizards?" Asmodeus suggested, dodging an ice spear that shot out from the ice god's right shoulder.

As he dodged, he caught sight of a figure whose disguise had finally dropped. "Oh, have you finally honored us with a look at your face?" he mocked.

The multi-headed creature ignored the taunt, descending slowly from the ice god's shoulder, and asked with a frown, "How did you find me?"

Asmodeus was momentarily taken aback, then burst into laughter. "Haha, did you really think your disguise would fool anyone? You might deceive the eyes of most wizards, but even an average wizard can sense the difference in your manas. The mana around that giant's shoulder was chaotic and fluctuating. Of course, I and the others noticed you long ago."

"The others?" the creature repeated in surprise.

"Guys, enough playing around. Show yourselves," Asmodeus called out.

As his words fell, the other high wizards began to appear around them. From Rowena and Salazar to Valchar and Godric, all twelve surrounded the giant and the creature.

"So, what now? Do you want to... surrender?" Asmodeus asked, his tone dripping with challenge.
