Chapter 36: CHAPTER 36
Large creatures, reminiscent of the griffins I know, but previously unseen by any of the shards "I read about them in the local bestiary. They are comparable in size to thoroughbred horses, and outwardly they are a cross between these same horses and an eagle "the body, hind legs and tail are from a horse, while the front legs, neck, head and wings are eagle's. The color is uniform, not as chaotic as that of griffins. But the claws on the front paws inspire "real blades! And a beak. A very curious creature, but the elven part of me did not show much interest "after all, that elf was more of a wizard and healer than a breeder or ranger, who love to communicate with animals.
I listened to Hagrid's further stories with half an ear, gleaning only the important information, like they are proud creatures, they like to observe ceremony. In order to communicate with them, you need to slowly approach, bow and wait for a return bow "a typical tactic of behavior with a griffin, if it is not initially aggressive. If the hippogriff bows back, you can come up close, pet it, or even ride it. And yes, it's the same with griffins. Again, if they are not hostile. I bet that there are a couple more tricks in their nature and habits, and if you violate the voiced scheme, the hippogriff will strike a preemptive blow "always a light wound. Without exceptions. At least that's what the griffin does. And if you suddenly did not understand the slightly bloody hint and climbed again "that's where your death will lie.
After the briefing, there were no more people willing to make contact with these animals, and I can understand the students' concerns. Once, I remember, when I was a human, I met a herd of horses. I knew in my mind that they wouldn't attack or anything like that "they were village horses, accustomed to people. But damn them "they were huge! And jaws, and teeth, and with their nose, it seemed they could "sniff" me to the skeleton! And here was an even larger animal, with blades on its paws and a beak capable of biting off your stupidity. It's no wonder that all the children recoiled from the fence. Everyone, except for the hesitant Potter "Hagrid chose him voluntarily-compulsorily to get acquainted with the hippogriff.
Potter, to his credit, carried out the introduction procedure correctly, and Hagrid, having seated Potter on the hippogriff, sent the latter flying. Everyone was delighted.
"This is madness…" Justin shook his head, his mouth slightly open as he looked at the image of a huge animal flickering through the treetops in the sky.
"It's Gryffindor!" Weasley grinned, there's no other way to describe it, with the utmost self-satisfaction, as if he himself were right there in the sky.
Having already realized the degree of tension between Gryffindor and Slytherin, and especially between Potter and Malfoy's teams, I expected some kind of mischief from the latter. It was not for nothing that he, along with two big guys, Crabbe and Goyle, were actively discussing something, slightly distancing themselves from the others.
Soon the hippogriff landed, and the rider, Harry, dismounted safely. He looked dashing and silly. The guy looked happy and disheveled even more than before. After this, many expressed a desire to communicate with the animals "the guys enthusiastically, but without much courage, entered the pen, bowed to the hippogriffs, and they bowed back. However, not all. Neville had to run from a disgruntled hippogriff "the animal, having been unleashed by Hagrid, snapped its beak at Longbottom as if it were an unlucky cub. It is not surprising, because the approach voiced by Hagrid implies exactly this position of the wizard in front of the hippogriff "a cub. However, if you are rude or insult him, then it is not a sin to scratch the impudent one.
I didn't take my eyes off Malfoy. When such people plan something nasty, this desire literally hovers around them "and so it was now. And so, when the hippogriff, which the blond finally reached and even stroked, suddenly reared up, the wand slid into my hand, and I cast one of the school spells.
"Accio, Draco Malfoy.
The guys standing next to me, who had decided to conduct the lesson in safety, looked at me as if I were an idiot. But they looked even more shocked at Malfoy, who literally rolled to my feet. He was spitting out dust and grass. Hagrid had already rushed to the offended hippogriff and instantly subdued him with a simple and effective method "a powerful collar. Well, this huge bearded man had no problems restraining such a beast.
"It seems, Mr. Malfoy," in the best elven traditions, I turned on maximum condescension and grandeur. "I saved your life."
He jumped up from the ground and looked at me with indignation. The other students quickly gathered around us and listened attentively. And I waited. Waited for what Malfoy would say, because now he was between two fires.
"I knew perfectly well what I was doing!" he said, adjusting his hair with his hand.
"Oh, did you really provoke the hippogriff into a preemptive strike? "I put my hands behind my back and slowly walked around the blond. "Discredit Mr. Hagrid, get a slight injury? Were you really that scared to go out with the team at the upcoming Quidditch match. To go out, in the sky with the Dementors?
Malfoy jerked sharply and silently walked away, taking his friends, Crabbe and Goyle, with him.
On that wonderful note, Hagrid decided to end the lesson and we all headed back to the castle. Justin, who was walking next to me, couldn't help but start a conversation about what had happened.
"Have I already mentioned that I don't like Malfoy?
"Yes.
"So, of course, I don't like him, but aren't you going too far?
"I am simply amused by this narrow-minded simpleton. All his intrigues are not worth a broken Knut. And his arrogance and contempt for others just beg for a response. Think about it, my dear friend. The Malfoys, among other things, are hippogriff breeders, and their pets have repeatedly won first place at the European exhibition of riding magical animals.
"That's true!" Ernie, who was walking on the other side, was surprised. "I read about it in the Prophet when I was about ten."
"Exactly," I nodded.
When we entered the hall, the students began to wander off in all directions.
"And you also have to understand," I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Hermione and Potter had joined us, clearly wanting to start a conversation but waiting for me to finish. "Malfoy was up to no good the moment he saw the hippogriffs. If his plan had succeeded, he would have sabotaged not only the Quidditch match, but Hagrid's lesson as well."
"What does the match have to do with it? "Justin didn't get the point.
