Chapter 93: One-Track Mind Leads To Two Obstacles
Uchiha Fugaku couldn't help but feel a deep sense of shock. After all, what had been stolen was the greatest power of an ancient enemy, a thousand-year-old rival!
For this power—one that could defeat the Sharingan—Fugaku, as the patriarch of the Uchiha clan, understood very well how crucial Wood Style was to the Uchiha.
Why did no one follow Uchiha Madara, the clan leader of the previous generation, when he wanted to lead his people out of Konoha? Was it because all Uchiha had suddenly become peace-loving?
Considering the number of thousands of ninjas during Uchiha's peak, there must have been some who enjoyed fighting, right? Not to mention that Uchiha Madara, with his charisma, would have had quite a few loyal followers. But when Madara wanted to take the Uchiha out of Konoha, no one followed him.
Others might not know the reason, but Fugaku, the clan leader, surely did. The reason was simple: all the Uchiha in Konoha believed that Wood Style was superior to the Sharingan, and that Senju Hashirama was stronger than Uchiha Madara.
It was undeniable. Before the founding of Konoha, the entire Uchiha clan had lost to Hashirama. Had Madara not lost, it was hard to say if Konoha would have even survived.
The Uchiha clan, being a pragmatic one, revered strength. When faced with an opponent they couldn't defeat, they became like docile cats.
This was why Uchiha Madara left without receiving any support from the clan.
And this was why Fugaku was so shocked when he learned that Yuma had stolen Senju Hashirama's Wood Style! This power, which had once pacified the chaotic Warring States period, was now in Yuma's hands.
Fugaku could only sigh in admiration at Yuma's brilliance. At the same time, he understood that developing such a powerful technique would require substantial funding.
Since this Wood Style suit could also restore the Mangekyō Sharingan's power, Fugaku couldn't let Yuma shoulder all the costs. He understood the value of this project—not just for the Uchiha clan, but for the future of their eyes.
The recovery of Mangekyō's power was slow, but having it at all was a game-changer. There were historical cases in the clan where brothers had to sacrifice each other to restore their Mangekyō eyes. The chances of two brothers awakening their Mangekyō were incredibly rare, making this new development invaluable.
Fugaku understood this well and valued this research.
Yuma, however, frowned when Fugaku inquired about the next generation of the Wood Style suit. "It may take some time, Fugaku-kun. Please be patient. I still have to go and congratulate Mr. Minato, so I'll be leaving first."
To be honest, Yuma wasn't sure how long the research would take. He had visited Tsunade's lab, and the progress was... less than ideal. Tsunade had a strict moral code, refusing to use human subjects for direct experimentation. So, the research was still in the animal testing phase, which meant things were moving slowly.
Still, Yuma wasn't in a rush. With his system, his eyes had already reached the realm of the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Among the Uchiha clan, only Fugaku had the Mangekyō Sharingan, and none of the others—Obito, Shisui, Itachi, or Sasuke—had activated their Mangekyō yet.
So, there was no immediate pressure. Fugaku was also fine, as he had already awakened his Mangekyō and didn't need to worry about eye issues for now.
Yuma had more urgent matters to attend to. He had to attend the celebration banquet for Minato Namikaze, who had just been nominated as a candidate for the Fourth Hokage!
Upon hearing Yuma's words, Fugaku nodded in understanding. "Go ahead, Yuma-kun. I was planning to go too, but the workload in the security department has increased significantly. Please pass on my congratulations to Minato, and tell him that my clan will spare no effort in supporting him during the election."
Fugaku was also filled with emotion at the thought of Minato becoming a Hokage candidate. If it weren't for Yuma being Minato's apprentice and part of the Hokage master-apprentice system, the Uchiha clan would have surely pushed for him to become a candidate for Hokage as well.
Regardless of success or failure, the Uchiha clan would have insisted on campaigning.
But now, with Minato's candidacy, and the hope of Yuma becoming the Fifth Hokage, Fugaku knew the Uchiha clan had a much brighter future. He fully supported Minato in this endeavor.
Yuma smiled and nodded, "Don't worry, I'll pass on your words to the teacher, Fugaku-san!"
With that, Yuma exited the security department and headed to Akamichi's barbecue restaurant.
After lifting the curtain and entering the restaurant, Yuma found the private room reserved by Minato's squad. Walking in, he saw his companions and smiled. "Sorry for keeping you waiting, everyone. I was discussing something with Chief Fugaku."
Before anyone could respond, the fiery-tempered Uzumaki Kushina waved her hand dismissively.
"We're all familiar by now! Yuma, stop with the formalities. Do you want me to punch you?!"
Yuma hurriedly signaled, "No, no! I didn't mean that! Senior Kushina, please forgive me!"
"Hmph! Fine, I'll let you off this time!" Kushina relented, slamming the table with a bang and raising her beer.
She loudly announced, "Alright, Minato's party to celebrate his nomination for the Fourth Hokage begins now! Everyone, cheers!"
The rest of the group raised their glasses in unison. "Cheers!"
Meanwhile, in the underground base of Root, Danzo Shimura was not in a good mood.
He was furious. The position of Hokage seemed to be slipping further and further away from him. However, at this moment, he couldn't afford to make any moves. If he did, his old friend, Sarutobi Hiruzen, who was about to step down, would no longer be able to protect him.
Danzo had been reinstated just a year and a half ago, and the power of Root had already shrunk significantly. He knew that his various underhanded actions over the years had created widespread dissatisfaction. If he acted out now, the ninja clans would likely turn against him.
His last impeachment left too many flaws, giving his enemies ample ammunition to bring him down. Danzo realized that the chance for him to become Hokage was all but gone.
Now, he felt completely numb, trapped in a situation where he had no good options. His stubbornness had led him to a dead end.
