Sarutobi Hiruzen made no effort to conceal the incident regarding Setsu.
He candidly explained how his attempt to recruit her ended in failure, essentially admitting, "I scared her away."
Naruto, upon hearing this, couldn't help but retort, "Third Hokage-sama, if you were in my position, would you have dared to stay in Konoha?"
Sarutobi Hiruzen froze momentarily.
Putting oneself in another's shoes?
This notion aligned closely with the Will of Fire.
When Hiruzen considered the situation from Uzumaki Setsu's perspective, it all became clear.
No wonder!
It was no surprise that she was eager to leave.
As a child displaced by war, Setsu had roamed the ninja world with her mother, enduring tremendous hardships. After settling in a small ninja village and paying a steep price for it, she was suddenly invited to Konoha's Chūnin Exams by its Kage.
However, instead of offering clear promises, the village merely dangled benefits like housing and living expenses. Anyone would have found this suspicious.
Sarutobi Hiruzen's gravest mistake was failing to reveal his true intentions.
This misstep naturally made Setsu wary.
As a kunoichi with a rare bloodline limit, it was obvious that a Great Ninja Village like Konoha sought her for reasons beyond her abilities. The suspicion that she might be used as a tool for breeding strong descendants wasn't far-fetched.
Understanding this, Hiruzen took a long drag from his pipe, exhaling deeply as he murmured, "Oh, how hard it is to meet everyone's expectations."
Seeing Hiruzen's embarrassment, Kazekage Rasa redirected the conversation. "Is this Konoha's renowned Jinchūriki? I've heard much about you. On behalf of Sunagakure, I thank you for sealing Shukaku."
Naruto turned toward Rasa, a man who, in the original timeline, met his end at Orochimaru's hands.
Rasa had a stern, square face with short brown hair. Known for his ability to manipulate gold dust, he had repeatedly suppressed Shukaku during the beast's rampages.
Rasa's strength likely reached the Kage level; after all, a leader of one of the Five Great Villages couldn't afford to be weak.
Hearing Rasa's gratitude, Naruto nonchalantly replied, "I was simply protecting those I care about."
In truth, it had been more about completing system tasks and honing his ninjutsu than any grand ideals. Otherwise, wouldn't it have been easier to leave the village with Sasuke and the others?
When Rasa's probing failed, Hiruzen seized the moment to address Naruto. "Naruto, after careful deliberation, the village has decided to promote you directly to Chūnin. You're exempt from the rest of the competition."
Naruto nodded indifferently.
This decision further cemented Naruto's impression that Hiruzen was often more trouble than he was worth.
Sensing Naruto's discontent, Hiruzen attempted to placate him. "Naruto, in light of your exceptional performance, the village wants to reward you. What would you like?"
Naruto's interest piqued instantly. "I'd like the First Hokage's ninjutsu scroll. Is that possible?"
Hiruzen was visibly taken aback. "The First Hokage's scroll? Why do you want that?"
The scroll contained Senju Hashirama's techniques, most of which revolved around senjutsu and Wood Style. However, without a summoning beast or Hashirama's unique genetic makeup, Naruto couldn't realistically train in these arts.
Instead of explaining, Naruto raised his hand.
"Creak…"
Small branches sprouted from his palm as he concentrated his chakra.
Hiruzen leaped to his feet, startled. "This… Wood Style?"
The implications were staggering. Had Naruto developed Wood Style independently?
Setting aside his curiosity, Hiruzen turned to Rasa. "Lord Kazekage, I trust you'll keep this matter confidential for Konoha?"
Rasa nodded silently, his eyes gleaming with undisclosed intentions.
Turning back to Naruto, Hiruzen said, "If you want the First Hokage's scroll, it's yours. However, you must promise to keep your Wood Style abilities hidden for three years. Wood Style draws too much attention and envy from others. With your talent, three years will be enough to master the First Hokage's techniques."
Naruto agreed without hesitation. "Fine. I'll keep it a secret."
Privately, Naruto had no intention of abiding by the promise for long; he just wanted the scroll.
Satisfied with Naruto's compliance, Hiruzen issued a command. "Kakashi."
In an instant, the silver-haired, one-eyed ninja appeared.
"Head to Anbu and request a copy of the First Hokage's ninjutsu scroll. Deliver it to Naruto."
"Yes, Hokage-sama." Without hesitation, Kakashi vanished to fulfill his task.
Though excited about obtaining the scroll, Naruto stayed to watch the ongoing matches. This wasn't the original timeline, and events had diverged significantly.
For instance, with Rasa alive, Orochimaru's plan to destroy Konoha might never come to fruition.
More importantly, Naruto wanted to ensure his loved ones—particularly Hinata—were safe.
The matches commenced swiftly, and the first pairing shocked Naruto: Haruno Sakura versus Hinata!
In the arena, Sakura glared at Hinata. "I might not beat you, but just thinking about how you won Naruto's heart infuriates me!"
Hinata blushed, murmuring apologetically, "I… I didn't mean to upset you, Sakura-chan."
Though Hinata's tone was genuinely sincere, Sakura misinterpreted it as mockery.
Fueled by frustration, Sakura charged at Hinata.
Ten seconds later, she was sprawled on the ground, utterly defeated.
"Damn it… I lost!" Sakura muttered, her face flushed with humiliation.
Lying there, she couldn't help but glance enviously at Hinata's figure.
"Why does she get everything? Even this!" she thought bitterly.
