Chapter 66: Chapter 67: The Battle of Focus
"Please, candidates number 37, Akasaki Yuu, and number 38, Uchiha Shisui, enter the arena."
When Akasaki Yuu heard that his opponent was Shisui, he froze for a moment.
Without a doubt, Shisui was the opponent that all the students from Class 1-A least wanted to face.
The reason was simple: Shisui was just too strong.
In the previous exam, Shisui had dominated the competition, taking first place in both the class and the entire grade. Even Red Bean, who placed second, was utterly overwhelmed in front of him.
The practical exam's score is determined by the performance during battle. If a student is defeated too quickly, the proctors can't properly assess their performance, resulting in a lower score.
But since Akasaki Yuu had drawn Shisui as his opponent, he could only accept his fate and enter the arena.
Once the exam began, Akasaki Yuu immediately used all his skill with the Three Body Jutsu, showing off his proficiency.
"This student has a good understanding of the exam's scoring system," said Ueda Aya, nodding as she watched, not thinking there was anything wrong with Akasaki Yuu's approach.
Shisui calmly observed Akasaki Yuu's performance, and when it seemed like enough time had passed, he threw two shuriken to eliminate the clones. He then charged in and knocked Akasaki Yuu out with two quick punches.
"The power difference between the two is too great," Ueda Aya said, unable to discern any significant change in Shisui's abilities since the last exam.
The gap in strength between Akasaki Yuu and Shisui was so wide that there wasn't much to see.
After the battle between candidates 39 and 40 ended, Ueda Aya completed her first round of grading.
With a casual glance, she noted that there wasn't a single student whose ninjutsu score was below eight. The average score was incredibly high.
"Looks like you'll be getting praise from the Third Hokage again, Mu Yue. With scores like these, they'll probably call me in for questioning," Ueda Aya joked.
"If that's the case, we'll both probably get called in," Mu Yue responded, showing Ueda Aya the scores he had given. They were very similar.
Although these were his own students, their performance was exceptional, so there was no need for Mu Yue to lower his scores to avoid favoritism.
As the battles continued, students inevitably faced off against their friends. Shingetsu Izumi tearfully eliminated Steel Iron, and Red Bean tearfully eliminated Shingetsu Izumi.
"Hahaha, Zitei, your deceiving technique is useless!" After defeating his friend, Shingetsu Izumi smiled through his tears, comforting his good brother.
Steel Iron: ...
He vowed that during the holidays, he would train every day and get his revenge on Shingetsu Izumi next semester.
"Hahaha, Izumi, Zitei, how could you two, the so-called ninjutsu talents, possibly beat me, the genius Red Bean?" Red Bean stood proudly, hands on her hips, as she entered the final class battle.
The two exchanged glances, deciding that when the theoretical scores were announced, they would definitely take a hard punch at Red Bean.
"Please, candidates Omote Washi Red Bean and Uchiha Shisui, enter the exam arena." The class practical exam was now entering its final phase.
Ueda Aya watched this battle carefully. Red Bean had placed second in the last exam, making her the strongest student in the grade after Shisui. She should be able to give Shisui a good challenge.
Red Bean knew that Shisui wasn't easy to handle, so she started the battle by immediately using her deceiving techniques.
However, she made a few changes this time. She first created seven clones of Shisui to distract him while using Transformation Jutsu to turn herself into Shisui's likeness, and then created a clone of herself.
But Shisui wasn't fooled by the tricks of an ordinary student. Even with multiple illusions trying to obstruct his vision, he never lost track of the real Red Bean. With a quick Shunshin, he reached her side and defeated her in an instant.
"Shunshin, huh? I suppose we'll only see more of his abilities in the fourth-year practicals," Ueda Aya thought to herself.
The battle between Shisui and Red Bean was one-sided, but Shisui still showed a bit more of his skill.
With Shisui securing first place in the class, the practical exam for the second day concluded.
On their way back to the office, Mu Yue and Ueda Aya encountered Ikegami Yu, who was loudly complaining.
"Why? Why are Might Guy and Uchiha Obito so strong?" Ikegami Yu said, still puzzled. "I didn't see anything special about them in class."
This time, he had been assigned as a proctor for his own class. After observing Might Guy and Uchiha Obito throughout the day, he felt that even Hyuga Hiromon might not be able to defeat them.
Ikegami Yu was confused as to why these two famous underperformers were suddenly so powerful in his hands. Could it be that he was a hidden teaching genius?
Although he was reasonably aware of his own abilities, Ikegami Yu quickly dismissed that thought because he was still responsible for a Class 3-A, and the overall level of the class could only be considered average.
Seeing Mu Yue and Ueda Aya, Ikegami Yu decided to share his thoughts with them.
"Maybe they've just been steadily improving over time?" Ueda Aya speculated.
"Well, regardless of the reason, it's a good thing that our students are strong," Mu Yue smiled and said.
Ikegami Yu felt that Mu Yue's point made sense. No matter why these students were so good this semester, the rewards from the school were definitely well-deserved.
...
The third day of the grade-level practical exams began.
The exam proctor for the grade was chosen randomly, and Ueda Aya was selected. Mu Yue, however, was not chosen.
Since Mu Yue was a first-year teacher, he still went to observe a bit.
Ueda Aya graded a round of exams and soon realized that some of the top students from other classes were not as strong as Mu Yue's ninjutsu talents.
"At this rate, the two-student limit per class should really be reconsidered. If not for that, Class 1-A would probably have at least six students in the top eight," Ueda Aya thought to herself.
She felt that the current rule was somewhat unfair to classes like 1-A, which had an overall exceptionally high level of talent.
Even though their abilities were strong enough, they were still unable to participate in the grade-level practicals due to the class size limitation.
After Mu Yue finished observing the first round, he left to watch the senior-year practicals.
Shisui taking first place in the grade was already a given, but Mu Yue was more concerned with the senior-year exams.
Might Guy and Obito had both been assigned the task of achieving first place, and with two months of hard training behind them, Mu Yue felt that the rewards for their efforts would certainly be impressive. He was looking forward to it.
When Mu Yue arrived, the senior-year exams had just finished the first round and were now in the quarterfinals.
"Please, candidate number one, Hyuga Hiromon, and candidate number four, Might Guy, enter the arena."
As the proctor's voice echoed through the arena, the students gathered around began to quietly discuss.
Based on the previous exam results, this battle was undoubtedly the focal point of the entire grade-level practicals, as the two fighters were the first and second-place finishers from the last exam.
