Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Reading Memories—Clues to the White Fang Incident
"A massive swarm of insects."
Kakashi looked at the poisonous insects blanketing the sky, darkening the sunlight. However, there was no trace of nervousness on his face—only a flicker of excitement.
Still standing still.
Left hand behind his back.
Right arm stretched forward.
Index and middle fingers together.
A surge of invisible sword energy radiated continuously from his fingertips.
In a matter of moments, dozens of transparent sword energies emerged, hovering chaotically in the air instead of shooting forward.
"Let's see how you handle this," Kakashi murmured.
Then, with a sudden motion, he clapped his hands together.
"Ten Thousand Swords—Simultaneous Release!"
Buzz!
The dozens of sword energies vibrated in the air before suddenly multiplying!
The originally finger-length slashes split further, growing finer, increasing in number exponentially.
In the blink of an eye, the disorderly invisible sword energy transformed into a dense cloud of thin, needle-like blades!
"Go!"
With a single motion of his finger, Kakashi directed the mass of sword energy toward the incoming swarm of insects.
A piercing buzz echoed through the air. The nearly invisible slashes cut through the poisonous insects, slicing them apart instantly!
Dark insect dust rained down from the sky as thousands of tiny, lethal sword energies shredded the creatures into unrecognizable black powder.
In mere moments, the once-massive swarm had vanished.
Now, all that remained was a layer of dense black dust covering the forest floor.
Reactions
Not far away, the white-clad Kakashi (Bai Kakashi) stared in stunned silence.
"What... what kind of technique is this?"
He was in awe.
"To split Chakra-infused sword energy into countless smaller blades… Isn't this level of chakra control nearly impossible?"
"Tsk," Obito scoffed, unimpressed.
Bai Kakashi turned to him, puzzled.
"What? That move wasn't strong?"
He thought it was immensely powerful.
Obito smirked. "It looks flashy, but that's about it."
"...?" Bai Kakashi was even more confused.
"These techniques—finger slashes, sword energy projections—were actually created by His Majesty long ago," Obito explained. "But he also said that while they look cool, they don't have much practical use in real combat. They're mainly for training chakra control."
"That's true."
Senju Hashirama, who had been observing, nodded in agreement.
"The only reason this worked so well is that the power gap between the two sides is enormous. Against a stronger opponent, these moves wouldn't be as effective."
Bai Kakashi still felt uneasy.
"I feel like I don't know anything anymore… even Obito understands more than I do."
"Of course, for some people, being stylish is enough," Obito added smugly.
Bai Kakashi's mouth twitched.
"What kind of logic is that?"
However…
He glanced back at the black-clad Kakashi (Hei Kakashi), still standing effortlessly, unfazed by the battle.
"...It really does look cool."
A sudden thought crossed his mind—
Maybe… I should start training in Hatake swordsmanship again.
The Root Operatives' Desperation
Aburame Togen, the Root operative, saw his insects obliterated and made an immediate decision.
Without hesitation, he charged toward Hei Kakashi!
His goal was simple—get close enough to make contact.
If he could just touch him once…
The nano-scale poisonous insects living inside his body would infest Kakashi's cells. These deadly creatures could not survive outside a living host, meaning they had to be transferred through physical contact.
Kakashi observed his reckless advance with a calm gaze.
"So, this is how the Root operates?"
Then, with a flicker of movement—
Swish!
A thin, invisible slash flew from behind Aburame Togen!
Splatter!
Blood sprayed into the air.
Thud!
The Root operative collapsed to the ground, motionless.
Interrogation Begins
Now, only one opponent remained.
Kakashi finally moved from his position, walking toward Yamanaka Feng, who had fallen from a tree earlier.
The Root ninja struggled weakly, lifting his head to glare at Kakashi.
"You… you're not Hatake Kakashi!"
Earlier, his Mind Transfer Jutsu had been forcibly rebounded, leaving him severely weakened and unable to fight back.
But from that failure, he had come to a terrifying realization.
This man—this thing—standing before him could not possibly be the Hatake Kakashi of Konoha.
Even if Kakashi had been secretly hiding his strength, there was no way he could be this overwhelming.
He had stood still the entire time.
Without moving a single step, he had annihilated an entire Root squad.
Hatake Kakashi… wasn't this powerful!
"It's unfortunate," Kakashi replied, crouching beside him and placing a hand on his forehead.
"I am Hatake Kakashi."
Just not the one from this world.
Before Yamanaka Feng could protest, Kakashi activated a Mind-Reading Technique, a secret ability of the Yamanaka Clan.
A surge of memories flooded into his mind.
A Life of Obedience
Images flashed rapidly.
Yamanaka Feng's past unraveled before him—
A young genius of the Yamanaka Clan, forcibly conscripted into Root.
Cursed, brainwashed, stripped of identity.
Day after day, he carried out brutal missions, turning into nothing more than a tool for Shimura Danzō.
Then—
A particular memory caught Kakashi's attention.
His gaze sharpened.
"Wait... The White Fang incident?"
Unraveling the Truth
Through Yamanaka Feng's mind, Kakashi saw something crucial.
A conversation between Danzō and his subordinates.
A secret mission report.
The deliberate spread of rumors about the failure of Konoha's White Fang, Hatake Sakumo.
Kakashi's grip on Yamanaka Feng's head tightened.
"So this is what happened before my father… before he…"
His expression darkened.
Danzō had orchestrated it.
The whispers, the betrayal, the disgrace—it was all manufactured.
His father had taken his own life not out of guilt, but because of a calculated plan to destroy him.
And these Root operatives—
They were the ones who spread the poison throughout the village.
Kakashi exhaled slowly, reigning in his emotions.
He had expected something like this.
But seeing the truth firsthand…
That was different.
The End for Yamanaka Feng
"You—You…"
Yamanaka Feng gasped, his body trembling in shock.
"You know… the Yamanaka's secret techniques… Who the hell are you?!"
Kakashi chuckled.
"Take a guess."
In the Empire, knowledge of Kekkei Genkai and secret techniques was no longer monopolized by clans.
Everything was open for study at the Imperial Academy.
The Mind-Reading Technique?
Just another skill available for those willing to learn.
Yamanaka Feng's breath grew shallow.
His fate was sealed.
Conclusion
Kakashi rose to his feet, thoughts racing.
The truth about his father's downfall was clearer than ever.
And now, he had more reason than ever to deal with Shimura Danzō.
With one last glance at the fallen Root operatives, Kakashi muttered:
"Your time is coming, Danzō."
To Be Continued…
