Chapter 1119: The Emperor
Karyk was brought inside the Grand Palace, which was surrounded with a myriad of life threatening formations.
His senses had become stronger after consuming Chronos, which allowed him to feel the fluctuations of the killer formation. Every single one of this formation seemed strong enough to completely erase the existence of a person.
"Your Emperor is really cautious. Even we don't have this many killer formations back home." Karyk commented, his gaze moving from one place to another like a curious child.
For an ignorant person, he looked like a naive fool that was amazed by the grandeur of the palace and was looking around, but the Ministers knew that every place he observed, had a formation carved there.
"This is the Palace of the Ruler. It's normal to have such mechanisms in place." The Minister awkwardly answered, feeling slightly uncomfortable that a child was able to see through the security mechanisms.
He guided Karyk inside the palace, and occasionally warned him to not touch anything without permission as a formation could be triggered.
Karyk was quite intrigued to see that he hadn't come across any guards along the way, even as he was led through the corridors of the palace.
At least that was what the Palace showed in the open, but he was able to feel many powerful existences observing him. The Palace was no less than den of the dragons.
'For this place to exist so long, despite the existence of the Ancient Lords beyond their control, it truly wasn't a complete fluke. I have already sensed at least five existences comparable to ancient lords.'
Adding the Dukes that served the Empire, Karyk had a feeling that the Royal Family was truly like a sleeping dragon. If he was to observe their numbers, then they had a complete advantage.
They didn't really need the help of the Ancient Lords. But still, the Palace was cautious and trying to get close to them.
'Is the Emperor overly cautious? Or is there something else holding him back?'
Karyk kept trying to extend his senses to observe as much of the Palace as he could. Unfortunately, the Palace was so vast that his senses that could normally cover multiple worlds, could only cover a small fraction of the palace.
Even amongst the regions that he was able to scan, there were some black spaces that completely avoided his scanning.
The Minister stopped before the entrance of the Throne Room. "This is as far as I can go. Beyond this door, the Emperor is waiting for you. Please enter yourself."
The Ministers stepped back, not even opening the doors of the throne room. They simply turned around and started walking away, which Karyk found quite strange.
Was it normal for the Ministers to accompany him, especially since they escorted him so far? It wasn't as if he was walking into the bedroom of the Emperor which he was scared of.
There were not even any guards assigned at this place to open the door.
Still, Karyk didn't touch the doors personally. An aura originated from his body, that sent dense winds banging straight to the door.
The winds were so sharp that even a treasured metal could be destroyed, but it wasn't something that Karyk had to worry about with the door of the Palace.
Let alone an attack like this, even if he was to use his strongest fist, he could still not leave a mark on the door. The only way to even destroy it, was possibly through devouring.
Just as he thought, the wind explosion couldn't leave a mark on the door. But the impact did push the door open, creating just enough space for him to walk in comfortably.
Karyk stepped inside the throne room, expecting the other guests or even the other nobles of the Empire to be waiting for him there.
It was his time to make an impression on the Empire, that was to serve as the foundation of the downfall of the Empire and the Lords. At least that's what he thought when he entered the place that was claimed to be the throne room.
The hall was grand, maybe even bigger than he had assumed. But that was as far as his assumption had worked. Everything else, he was completely wrong about.
Inside the hall, there were no Ministers of the Empire. There were no nobles either. Excluding him, there was only one other living being there.
The other person was sitting on the throne at the end of the hall. Their cold gaze was observing Karyk the moment he stepped inside.
On the ground, on the ceiling, and even on the walls, he could see powerful fluctuations of the formations. But the strongest aura fluctuations came from the person who was sitting on the throne.
There sat a woman on the throne who looked barely over thirty years old. She was wearing a black sleeveless gown that came down to her ankles.
There was a ring on each of her fingers, embedded with the gems made from the cores of ancient worlds that were destroyed. Each of those gems also came with their own abilities.
Karyk felt his hunger rise the moment he looked at those rings. His instincts were telling him to devour those gems, but he controlled the instincts and didn't let his true thoughts appear on his face.
"Are you Chronos?" the woman on the throne asked, her gaze lazily observing Chronos.
"I am sure you already know my identity since I was escorted here. But I was told that I would be meeting the Emperor. Where is he?"
"Are you saying that I can't be the Emperor?"
"You can't. Even if you are strong, you are lacking compared to my father. I don't believe the Emperor ruling over the Empire would be weaker."
Even though Karyk couldn't be certain if the woman actually wasn't the Emperor, his instincts were telling him that it was definitely the case. She was not strong enough.
