Xia Chen was searching through old experimental records related to the Gem of Desire.

Based on Wendy's account, within the Oceanic Branch's documentation, someone had tampered with the process that made her the vessel for the Gem of Desire. Even the very purpose of these experiments involving the Gem remained unclear.

Scientific research invariably serves a specific goal. With data already available from the Babylon Experiment, including various studies on humans and Honkai Energy, what could be the objective behind restarting the Gem of Desire experiment after more than a decade?

According to the available records, the Gem of Desire experiment was designed to observe the source of Herrscher's power. Thus, Wendy, with her exceptional affinity for Honkai Energy, was chosen as its vessel.

After the experiment failed, all those involved were discreetly reassigned to different positions.

At that time, Wendy never suspected any issues with the experiment or even considered it might be flawed.

Her words caught Xia Chen's attention. During the experiment, there was no mention of the Herrscher of Dominance appearing. Yet, someone with malicious intent had already targeted Wendy before then.

Perhaps this is precisely why the Herrscher of Dominance became involved later on.

As for what happened in the past, it isn't truly important now. At least, the Oceanic Branch has undergone a complete overhaul since then.

Even Wendy herself doesn't seem overly concerned about uncovering the truth from that time, but Xia Chen feels compelled to investigate further. It's not solely for Wendy's sake or any other specific reason; rather, his intuition tells him there may be more to discover beneath the surface.

In fact, Xia Chen uncovers quite a significant amount.

The Oceanic Branch, apart from Schicksal's financial group, had the most external interactions among all branches. With control over Australia's vast mineral resources, these assets could be supplied not only to Schicksal but also sold externally.

Numerous multinational corporations collaborated with the Oceanic Branch, explaining the presence of many businessmen within it.

Stable funds and resources allowed Headquarters to turn a blind eye towards certain activities at the Oceanic Branch.

However, this leniency might have been misinterpreted here, particularly after dealings with various capitalists. Some individuals within the branch began harboring different ambitions.

Why not overthrow Headquarters and gain even greater power?

Why should they be governed by Schicksal, who lacks understanding of their operations?

Why not take a bold stand for themselves?

Of course, the outcome of such a bold move led to the current situation. Yet Xia Chen remained curious about who incited the leaders of the Oceanic Branch.

This indicated that another force was continuously seeking vulnerabilities to exploit within Schicksal.

So, was it Anti-Entropy or World Serpent?

"Cocolia needs the Gem of Desire to activate Father, whose true power remains unknown. The World Serpent also requires the gem's strength to welcome their so-called Lord. It's not entirely impossible that both sides collaborated to scheme against Schicksal."

Xia Chen couldn't help but rub his temples, feeling a headache coming on.

Even if he guessed the truth, there was no evidence, and even with proof, it wasn't the right time to address such matters. Currently, chaos within Schicksal persisted, as each branch harbored its own hidden agendas against Headquarters.

With Otto 'dead', all underlying conflicts surfaced, unleashing a torrent of discordant forces.

Taking a deep breath, Xia Chen headed towards the training grounds.

While Xia Chen's labor was mental exertion, Wendy's efforts were physical strain.

Wendy was training the Valkyries.

It was no easy task. During previous battles against Anti-Entropy, the Oceanic Branch's Valkyries exposed numerous shortcomings: inadequate tactical response, lack of fighting spirit, and deficient combat capabilities, sometimes even falling short compared to conventional national armies.

This greatly angered Wendy.

Wendy wasn't the master of Schicksal; she was merely another Valkyrie herself. However, she held the profession of a Valkyrie in high regard.

Thus, revitalizing their confidence became Wendy's personal responsibility, even if it led to resentment among the Valkyries.

For some reason, rumors circulated among the Oceanic Branch Valkyries: originally, there was peaceful coexistence between them and Anti-Entropy. It was only after Headquarters intervened that Anti-Entropy retaliated, causing suffering for the branch. Now, these newcomers from Headquarters were attempting to shift the blame onto them, accusing them of lackadaisical efforts.

The emergence of such sentiments indicated to Xia Chen and Wendy that issues within the Oceanic Branch remained unresolved.

Valkyries with ambition had long departed through various connections and channels. Those who stayed behind were mostly corrupted by complacency due to their comfortable lives.

Not every Valkyrie possessed a strong will for combat. If that were the case, Schicksal would not be just a military organization but rather a group of saintly missionaries spreading their beliefs.

However, this did not justify Wendy allowing them to slander others.

Unlike Durandal's straightforward approach, Wendy focused on increasing their training intensity and emphasizing the responsibilities of Valkyries.

She also required them to visit Manila, Coral Island, and Nagazora City—places devastated by Honkai—to serve as educational experiences for the Valkyries.

Despite her lack of experience, this was one of the few correct decisions Wendy managed to make.

When Xia Chen arrived at the training room, Wendy had just concluded the session with the Valkyries.

Previously, they trained for two hours daily, but Wendy enforced it to six hours now. As soon as the training ended, the girls left one after another.

"It's not having much effect," Wendy sighed.

In the Immortal Blades, even with nine-hour training days, some members would voluntarily stay longer for additional practice.

"Rome wasn't built in a day."

Xia Chen approached and continued, "We must consider their age; they're essentially rebellious teenagers. In their eyes, we are the ones disrupting their peaceful lives, so naturally, they'll resist cooperation."

He understood the issue but had no immediate solution. After all, he wasn't exactly experienced in political guidance from his previous life.

Valkyries typically were young, with sixteen to seventeen being their rebellious phase.

Although joining Schicksal showcased some level of maturity, it didn't guarantee absolute obedience to superiors and orders.

Wendy sighed, "But reality leaves us with very little time."

Each branch faced attacks from Anti-Entropy, and the war between Schicksal and Anti-Entropy showed no signs of ending soon.

The Herrscher of Dominance had not been completely eradicated, and there were suspicions of another Herrscher emerging in Shenzhou.

The Shenzhou government rejected Schicksal's request for intervention, claiming that this Herrscher had generated considerable news but caused minimal widespread destruction.

However, for Schicksal, if they couldn't effectively control the Herrschers, it felt like a constant thorn in their throat, causing sleepless nights.

Wendy was already preparing for the possibility of a large-scale Honkai event in Shenzhou and subsequent rescue operations.
