Chapter 560: Back to the Train
Shu felt that he couldn't make this decision alone. He needed to discuss it with everyone.
Besides, he really did need to go back and get Schrödinger. He could bring Kai back directly, but he couldn't be sure if Kai would just be prolonging its life there or simply collapse.
So it was better to have a "professional" confirm it.
On top of that, there were still many things to confirm in this estate. He was a country bumpkin, Mei probably didn't know the situation here, Kiana was unreliable, and Bronya... the orphanage probably didn't teach worldly knowledge either.
He himself was a complete novice. The only worldly person on the train was Schrödinger. It would be best to have her take a look and see what in this estate could be moved... could be collected.
Having made his decision, Shu turned to Frélle. "I'll take you to the train first. We'll probably stop here for a day, maybe longer. But in any case, you're better off on the train than here."
"You're not just going to take me and run, are you?" Frélle looked up at Shu, suspicious of all adults.
"We're not here to press-gang people or collect experimental subjects..." Shu said, exasperated.
"You mean some of you really do press-gang people and collect experimental subjects?" A hint of alarm entered Frélle's eyes, though Shu still didn't sense any increase in her hostility.
Was this also an act?
He had to admit... it had a certain clear-headed foolishness to it...
"At least the people I bring back won't be reduced to forced labor or experimental subjects." Shu had been about to deny it outright, but then he remembered Otto, and suddenly he wasn't so sure he was on the side of absolute justice.
Who knew when Otto might turn to the dark side?
"Is that so..." Frélle's wariness actually increased a little because of Shu's assurance. Shu didn't mind and turned to leave.
After taking two steps, he realized Frélle hadn't followed. Shu turned back. "Do you need me to pull you?"
"Of cou—" she began instinctively, but paused and regained her composure. "If you would be so kind, Mr. Shu."
With that, she raised her hand gracefully, like a noble lady waiting for a prince's hand-kiss.
At this moment, a gorgeously dressed prince should have knelt before her, gently taken her thumb knuckle, placed a kiss upon it, and then, after some playful resistance, they would have left together.
But Shu chose to simply grab her wrist and drag her away like a farmer taking a pig to slaughter.
Frélle's noble aura instantly shattered. She didn't resist, only showing a "I knew it" expression of resignation, letting Shu lead her out of the treasure-filled dragon's hoard.
As if she had already figured out what Shu wanted to do, Frélle would occasionally point at certain items along the way and briefly explain their value.
"The papal tiara there is embedded with the third-largest diamond in the world... That sword is said to be the one wielded by Sir Lancelot of the Round Table... That's the official seal of a small European country, passed down for hundreds of years..."
Shu didn't even glance at them. It wasn't that he wasn't interested, but that he didn't dare to look.
What were these things? They sounded so distant from him.
Hiss... wait... for the current me, they're not really that distant, are they? It seems like it's those things that should be looking up to me now?
Shu knew his current position, but he wasn't prepared for it yet. Everything he had now still felt a bit like a dream.
And in Frélle's eyes...
Even these things can't catch his attention? What exactly does he like?
So far, all she knew was that he had special superpowers, a relatively gentle yet straightforward personality, and in terms of preferences... other than seeming to dislike overly delicate types, she knew nothing.
And that preference might just be an act because he had mind-reading abilities.
Now that it seemed she couldn't refuse to be "rescued" by him, she could only quickly gather enough information to better protect herself... and Kai and the others.
Frélle's heart grew heavy, but she showed nothing on her face, silently closing her mouth after seeing that Shu seemed to have no interest in the estate.
After a long walk and two elevator rides, they finally left the grand villa. Although they could have just jumped out a window, it was better to go through the proper door.
Once outside, Shu, whose legs were already feeling a bit sore, glanced at Frélle and estimated the distance to the train. On foot, he felt he would most likely collapse on the way.
And Frélle probably wouldn't make it that far either.
"We won't be walking the rest of the way," Shu said, letting go of Frélle's hand and looking at her as if asking for her opinion. "The distance is a bit far... I'll take you there directly."
Frélle was startled. She began to wonder how Shu would take her there.
"Are... are we flying?" she asked cautiously, a faint glimmer of anticipation in her eyes.
Shu nodded. The little girl's breath hitched slightly. This was probably the biggest emotional fluctuation she had shown from the heart.
How will we fly? Will he grow wings, like those angels? No, maybe it's a version of the superpower that made the backpack float, and it will make him float too?
Then how will he take me with him? Will he hold me in his arms... like a magical prince flying through the sky with a princess?
The little girl began to look forward to it immensely.
Shu received the feedback of her emotions. He gave Frélle a strange look, then waved a hand. Frélle suddenly felt a sense of weightlessness.
She subconsciously grabbed the hem of her clothes, then looked down to see her feet slowly leaving the ground.
Just like her large bag full of things.
Frélle: "..."
She knew it...
Shu thought for a moment, then created a wind shield for Frélle before slowly floating up himself.
After getting his bearings, Shu shot off with Frélle in tow. Frélle felt as if everything around her had turned into a blur. When she came to her senses, she was already in the air, moving rapidly.
The huge estate quickly passed below them. After flying like this for a full five minutes, Shu finally flew out of the estate gates and landed next to the train with Frélle.
