Chapter 542: Story 542: The Moonlit Gauntlet

The industrial zone was a battlefield of flickering shadows and glowing eyes. The Titan's guttural roar reverberated through the air, drowning out the sound of the smaller zombies that advanced alongside it. Its towering form loomed against the moonlight, a grotesque silhouette of decayed muscle and jagged bone. "Hold your ground!" Marcus barked, stepping in front of his team. His shotgun gleamed under the moonlight, its barrel already aimed at the Titan's chest. The beast charged, each step shaking the ground like thunder. Smaller zombies flanked it, their glowing eyes locked on ZETU. "Quick Shot, take high ground! We'll cover you!" Marcus ordered. Riley scrambled up a pile of broken crates, her sniper rifle already lining up a shot. "On it, Captain. Keep that thing still for a second!" Jenna ignited her flamethrower, sending a blazing arc into the horde. The smaller zombies recoiled, their charred remains collapsing into the shadows. But the Titan pressed forward, unaffected by the flames. "Shield, with me!" Marcus called, sprinting toward the Titan. Derek charged beside him, his riot shield raised. The Titan swung a massive arm, the force of the blow sending debris flying. Derek braced himself, deflecting the attack with his shield but stumbling back under the impact. "This thing hits like a freight train!" Derek grunted. "Keep it busy!" Lila shouted, darting between the smaller zombies. Her twin pistols barked in the dark, each shot finding its mark. She sprinted toward a dilapidated structure, her eyes scanning for something—anything—that could turn the tide. "Brain, what do you have for us?" Marcus asked, firing at the Titan's exposed joints. Ethan's voice crackled through the comms. "There's a storage tank ahead—industrial fuel. If you can lure the Titan there, I can trigger an explosion big enough to take it down." "You want us to lead it into a trap?" Jenna asked, her flamethrower roaring to life again. "Exactly," Ethan confirmed. "Just don't be standing too close when it blows." Marcus nodded. "You heard him! Blaze, clear a path to that tank. Shield, you're on defense. Quick Shot, keep taking out the flankers. Huntress, find us a way to contain it." The team sprang into action. Jenna's flames lit the way, forcing the smaller zombies back. Derek stood firm, deflecting blows from the relentless horde. Riley's shots rang out, each one precise and deadly. Lila disappeared into the shadows, her eyes narrowing as she spotted a rusted chain overhead. With a smirk, she fired at the chain, sending a pile of heavy beams crashing down in front of the Titan. The beast hesitated, roaring in frustration. "That's your opening!" Lila shouted. "Move, now!" Marcus ordered. The Titan followed, its glowing eyes locked on the team as they led it toward the fuel tank. "Brain, we're in position!" Marcus called. "Stand clear!" Ethan replied. The tank erupted in a massive explosion, the fireball lighting up the night. The Titan roared one final time before collapsing into a heap of ash and bone. "Mission accomplished," Marcus said, his voice steady despite his exhaustion. But as the smoke cleared, Lila's gaze turned to the horizon. More glowing eyes flickered in the distance. "Let's not celebrate just yet," she murmured.
