Chapter 600: Story 600: The Last Stand
The sky split apart, lightning tearing through the heavens as the Black Tide surged forward. The undead warlord, its charred armor smoldering, raised its massive war axe and let out a guttural roar that sent shockwaves through the battlefield.
Captain Marcus "Iron Will" Kane stood firm, shotgun in hand. His team, battered and bloodied, formed a final defensive line on the collapsed bridge's remains. Behind them lay the last human stronghold, its survivors watching in paralyzed fear.
"This is it!" Marcus bellowed. "We hold, or humanity falls!"
The undead charged.
Officer Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett took position, sniper rifle blazing. She dropped zombies in rapid succession, but their numbers were endless.
Sergeant Jenna "Blaze" Hart, flamethrower ignited, created a wall of fire, but the undead pushed through, ablaze yet relentless.
Officer Derek "Shield" Coleman swung his riot shield, shattering skulls, but his strength waned.
Detective Lila "Huntress" Navarro, still wounded from the warlord's strike, fought with her blades, her movements slower, weaker.
And then, the warlord came for Marcus.
It moved with unnatural speed, its axe slamming down. Marcus barely rolled aside, the impact splitting concrete.
"Ethan! Now!" he shouted into his comms.
Tech Specialist Ethan "Brain" O'Connor, hunched over a command tablet, hit a final key. "Detonating the grid—now!"
All across the battlefield, underground charges erupted.
The earth caved in, swallowing half the undead army into the abyss. Fires erupted, igniting the remaining hordes.
But the warlord still stood.
It lifted its axe again, but this time, Lila was faster. With a last burst of strength, she plunged both blades into its back.
The warlord howled, its body convulsing, but it still refused to die.
"Marcus!" Lila gasped. "Do it!"
Marcus raised his shotgun, aiming for the warlord's skull.
BOOM!
The blast ripped through its head, black ichor spraying across the ruins.
The warlord collapsed, its body crumbling into dust.
For the first time in years… silence.
The Black Tide fell with it, their connection severed. The surviving undead staggered, then collapsed.
They had won.
As the dust settled, the team stood among the ruins, exhausted, wounded, but alive.
Jenna let out a choked laugh. "Did we just… end it?"
Ethan checked his drone feed. "No more movement… it's over."
Marcus took a deep breath, staring at the horizon. "Then let's rebuild."
As dawn broke, humanity rose from the ashes, and the legend of the Zombie Eradication Tactical Unit became the last tale ever told of the undead war.
The End.
