Chapter 391: Secret of the Underground Garage

There were white handkerchiefs on the floor of the car. Jing Tuoshen studied the wound on his hand. No matter how many times he wiped it, new blood kept flowing out. He wiped more aggressively until the small wound was torn open, and his whole hand was bloody. The driver glanced at the rear-view mirror silently. He did not dare to speak. Ever since the selection started, Jing Tuoshen had been studying the wound on the back of his hand. It was as if the wound could predict Gao Ming and Wan Jie’s future. The car slowly moved past the streets. The driver was very high-quality. There was no bumpiness sitting in the car.

“Why is there more blood?” Jing Tuoshen mumbled to himself. If he turned back to look, then he could see a figure in a school uniform at the station outside Everlasting Life Apartments. However, the figure only paused for a moment before it went into the anomaly again.

Jing Tuoshen glanced out the window. The shadow was spreading. This anomaly was showcasing signs of spiralling.

“It looks like I need to be prepared.”

Prosperity Neighbourhood was the most developed area in the East City. Just one wall away, the value of real estate rose several times compared to Everlasting Life Apartments. The neighbourhood came with amenities like a garden, gym, private clubs and kindergarten.

“This is a place I could never afford to live in my lifetime. I didn’t think it’d become like this. It’s like the cemetery.” Fan Li’s voice travelled into everyone’s ears. He didn’t speak loudly, but the surroundings were too quiet.

“This neighbourhood is not too high-class in the East City. However, I hear it has a very unique Feng Shui that can benefit one’s progeny. Some of the rich people like to buy a home here to place their urns.” Doctor Lee raised his hand. “Look at that building. It’s probably a coffin building since all of the windows are sealed.”

“Stop talking. It’s scary.” Ou Yang Susu’s large body hid beside Doctor Lee. She gripped the lead ball tightly.

“Acting fragile is so unlike you.” Due to nervousness, Doctor Lee spurted out his real thoughts. He was pinched by Ou Yang Susu.

“Gao Ming, are you sure we need to enter this place? It’s not easy for us to escape Everlasting Life Apartments. This place doesn’t look any safer!” Fan Li was scared. Even though the divine suppression over them was weaker, they were normal people. They couldn’t fight against the security members or ghosts.

“I need to find something here.” Gao Ming looked around. “Plus, it’s not necessarily safe outside. I have this feeling that other than the mutated original tenants here, there are other things hiding here.” Gao Ming didn’t force them to follow him. The two figurines had extremely strange powers. He couldn’t guarantee that he’d help all of them survive. Following the memory fragments hidden in his mind, Gao Ming came to Building Five of Prosperity Neighbourhood. Actually, this neighbourhood only had four buildings, but the number four was not auspicious. So, all the fourth buildings were called Building 5.

“I need to find people from the student council to contact Gao Yun,” Gao Ming had already contacted Gao Yun before he entered the anomaly. Probably even the investigation centre couldn’t expect the biggest villain in the old city and the scariest leader in the east city to have long since worked together.

Gao Ming was blocked by the password-guarded digital door of Building Five. Before he found the Heart of Flesh, he didn’t have the power to break such a thick door.

“Can’t we enter?” Fan Li saw the camera moving at the entrance. Someone seemed to be watching them from inside the building. The situation at Prosperity Neighbourhood was different from Everlasting Life Apartments. The people at Everlasting Life Apartments desperately wanted to escape, but the ‘tenants’ at Prosperity Neighbourhood seemed to know about the dangers outside and purposely locked up the area and refused entry to any outsiders.

Ou Yang Susu slammed into the door. The commotion attracted some unwanted attention. Extremely horrifying gazes stared at them in the dark. Even though they didn’t know what it was, the helplessness of being someone’s food was spine-tingling.

Worried that Ou Yang Susu might lure the monsters over, a male voice came from behind the door. “The buildings have been sealed. If you want to enter, you need to gain from the Mutual Assistance Society. If you keep making noises, you’ll attract the hungry ghosts and be eaten!”

“What is the Mutual Assistance Society?” Fan Li was confused.

“The hungry ghosts are hiding, and everyone is trapped here. There’s a chance to live only if we work together. To figure out a way to escape, we have formed the Mutual Assistance Society to gather the limited food and water and protect the old and the young.” The man’s voice was firm. He really believed that.

“What if we want to join the Mutual Assistance Society? We have food and water, but we need a safe place to sleep.” Gao Ming addressed the camera.

The man probably saw the corpse on Gao Ming’s back. After a long time, he said, “Go to the underground garage. All the society leaders are having a meeting there. If they agree for you to join, I’ll open the door.”

“Thank you.”

Gao Ming didn’t stay and led them to the underground garage. Once he stayed outside for too long, his heart started to race. When he arrived, he turned back to check the numbers. In just a few minutes, three people had mysteriously disappeared. It was hard to tell if they had escaped on their own or had been taken by the ghosts. Even their mates didn’t sense anything out of place.

Looking at the dark garage, Fan Li hesitated, “Could this be a trap? Why is there not even a single light on?”

“The four buildings at Prosperity Neighbourhood are not connected. They have to use the elevators at the different buildings to get to the underground garage to meet up with each other…” Doctor Lee hadn’t finished when he noticed Gao Ming stopping, “What’s wrong?”

A human silhouette appeared in the darkness. The person was wearing a white student council badge. The head was lowered.

“Back away.” Gao Ming paused and told the people behind him. “Don’t come any closer.”

The darkness didn’t affect Gao Ming much. He could see that only the person’s shoe tips were touching the ground. They looked strung up.

The divine pattern of the past rushed out of his left eye. Gao Ming’s pupils narrowed. He could glimpse what happened there half an hour ago.

Many corpses were transported out of the residential buildings through the elevators and dumped into the garage. Slowly, the underground garage started to mutate.
