Chapter 297: Suspicious Actions III
(Third Person POV)
[A Week Later]
"I don't like this…." Alysanne said as she sat in front of Jaehaerys, "Where is he???"
Jaehaerys sighed, "I don't know…." He said, "They have searched for him for a week straight. There is no sign of him…"
"Drakken knows something…." Alysanne said, "I know it!"
"Calm down." Jaehaerys said, "I've asked him two times already. He told me that if I asked him a third time, he'd spread Daenerys's ashes all over the realm…."
"He'd do me a favor…." Alysanne said, "Why would we let him touch her remains….s-so he can desecrate them!!"
"Alysanne…." Jaehaerys stood up, "I don't know what kind of scheme he is plotting, but there are serious matters to attend to. The Reach and The Stormlands have sent word to me; they intend to rally their banners in defiance to the Trinity."
"The Stormlands?" She asked, "House Baratheon is not afraid of that sky monster anymore?"
"It appears that the Beast has entered a state of slumber." The King said, "How convenient. Seems that Drakken is more than willing to let them rise up. There is Trinity presence there so I don't know how it will turn out."
"We must do something." Alysanne said, "We mist prevent them from rebelling…."
"I've sent word to them already, letting them know of the consequences." Jaehaerys said, "But regardless, they will try to ignore them…."
Alysanne looked down, "My son is missing….." she said softly, "And war is once again, on the brink of breaking out…..can Drakken just…..stop? For a few years….its all I ask…."
"You and I both, Wife." He said
"There must be something we can do." Alysanne closed her eyes, "Anything…."
"It's….going to be difficult…" Jaehaerys said, "He is still feeling the ire of what happened. And I cannot blame him…."
"I want this to be over." She said softly, "Please, Jaehaerys. Don't let him torment our family any longer….I beg you… I have had enough…."
Jaehaerys walked over to her, "I know." He said as he placed his hand on her shoulder, "I do my best. For our Family, for the Realm."
"Sometimes, it is not enough." She looked at him, "You know that."
"If Drakken does do what he intends to do…" Jaehaerys said, "Then we'll face it together."
The door to the King's chambers opened and Aemon walked in.
"Your Grace." He said as he stood there, "I have received word that Septon Barth is infact alive. He survived the madness that night and retreated to the Reach to recover from his wounds."
"Highgarden, perhaps." Jaehaerys said, "The Tyrells must have decided to back him."
"Someone has to go and speak to them." Aemon said, "To broker some kind of agreement. We cannot let ourselves break into war simply because Drakken desires it."
"I agree." Jaehaerys said, "Send a Raven first. If that doesn't work, you will have to go. If we send Baelon, they will not take it well."
Aemon nodded, "Agreed…" He said, "And what of…..Drakken…?"
"He has not said anything." Jaehaerys said
"It is very….strange." Aemon said, "He is very lenient."
"That's not a word I would use." Jaehaerys told him, "He intends to force our hand, to push us into a corner by using your sister."
"I know." He said, "But I meant me….he has had Jocelyn for a long time…"
Alysanne looked at him, "And how are you doing with that?" She asked, "To think he would go that far…..to think he would be that despicable."
"I….I try not to think about it…." Aemon's face hardened, "My Late Wife….who did not deserve to die….for her to be brought back without any memory of the time we spent….the nights we spent together….the joys of having our children….I…."
He stopped himself, merely looking down at the floor as his parents shifted awkwardly. For Aemon, the mere thought of Jocelyn gave him heartache, considering that he had struggled to move on and let Daella in.
"Daella…." Jaehaerys said, "Is your wife. She bears your child, Aemon. And if fate has it, the child will be your Heir."
"At the moment, Rhaenys is his heir." Alysanne said, "She was born after Aenys."
"Alysanne, you know very well what that could mean…" Jaehaerys said
"I…" Aemon started, "I don't like to think like that. Daella is in fact bearing my child and I look forward to it…"
"Good." Jaehaerys said, "Due to everything that has happened, we need some positivity…."
**************
Drakken stood in front of Ezra as they were on the docks of the city.
"What a foul stench." He said as he scrunched his nose, "To think that of all the placed a King should reside in, it would be this pile of filth."
Ezra nodded, "I try my best to bear with it." He said, "But after some time, you get used to it."
"Hm." Drakken said, "These people are filthy, Ezra. You ought to change that. To give them change for the better, we can guide them to our path."
"How do we do that?" Ezra asked
"The promise and threat of Death." Drakken said, "People fear Death the most, they ought to worship it. By worshipping Death, they can prevent it….or delay it. Sway them with the Fear of Death….and cleanse them of their filth."
"I have swayed them with the fear of war and death…." Ezra said, "I do not understand what-"
"Death, Ezra." Drakken said, "Use Death against them. To inflict and reverse death, that is my power. I brought back Maegor from the dead, which means that I hold the power of the concept itself. Use that. Tell them that. And cleanse them of their foul stench. That way, this city can be worthy of receiving me."
He turned around and walked past him.
"Of course." Ezra said, "And the Ritual for Daenerys Targaryen. Do you require me?"
"Not necessarily." Drakken said, "All I need is the ashes, the blood, and myself."
"With that, it's enough."
