Chapter 319: Chapter 320: Kurenai – Three of Us Came to Help, but I Didn't Even Get a Solo Chapter,
Damn It!
"Genjutsu: Demonic Illusion – Death Mirage!"
Kurenai dodged an Earth Dragon Bullet attack and cast her genjutsu from the treetops at the 'Third Hokage' before her.
A dreamy glow filled the air, and the 'Third Hokage' completely stopped moving.
Within the shimmering light, Kurenai thrust a kunai straight into his heart. Blood dripped from the blade, staining her hands.
But the 'Third Hokage' didn't react. Instead, he let out a cold smile.
"Kurenai, your genjutsu really is a pain for me."
The moment he spoke, Kurenai's expression changed slightly, and she quickly jumped back.
At the same time, the illusion shattered. Her hands, still forming seals, were forcibly knocked apart, while the 'Third Hokage' remained completely unharmed.
Kurenai clenched her teeth and firmly gripped her kunai.
"If genjutsu doesn't work, then I'll just have to rely on taijutsu!"
Genjutsu specialists usually trained in taijutsu as well. Once their genjutsu failed, their only options were ninjutsu or taijutsu. But most genjutsu users weren't proficient in ninjutsu, since genjutsu relied on Yin chakra, which was completely different from the five elemental chakra types used in ninjutsu.
"No, it's not useless," Orochimaru said, controlling Sarutobi Hiruzen's body. "Against me, your genjutsu is actually quite effective. It interferes with my control to some degree."
After all, his soul wasn't particularly strong.
Thinking this, Orochimaru smirked.
"Well, in that case, wouldn't it be fitting for you, as his daughter-in-law, to face your father-in-law yourself?"
"Orochimaru! You bastard!" Kurenai's face twisted in anger.
But before she could curse him further, she saw Sarutobi Hiruzen's eyes suddenly change.
His expression was no longer cold and sinister but instead filled with confusion and shock.
For a brief moment, Sarutobi Hiruzen was utterly confused. But after glancing at the battlefield around him and seeing Kurenai standing in front of him, he immediately understood what was happening.
His expression darkened.
"Kurenai! That bastard Orochimaru… is he controlling us to attack Konohagakure?"
If the First Hokage, the Second Hokage, Lady Mito, Kushina, and Uchiha Madara all attacked the village at once, the damage would be unimaginable.
Kurenai was cursing Orochimaru in her mind but could only show a helpless expression on her face. "No, Lord Third, Orochimaru summoned you to bring back the leader of the Akatsuki. He's carrying out a very dangerous plan."
Hiruzen Sarutobi was stunned. He understood every word she said, but when put together—
It made no sense at all.
Noticing Hiruzen's confusion, Kurenai explained softly, "The Akatsuki is an organization planning to destroy the world. They attacked Konoha and completely wiped it out. There were no casualties, but the village itself has been reduced to ruins."
Hiruzen's face had already darkened, but hearing that no one had died made him feel a little better. "As long as no lives were lost, the village can be rebuilt."
Kurenai hesitated for a moment. "I thought you'd be angry."
Hiruzen let out a helpless chuckle. "Why would I be? What truly matters isn't the village or the Hokage—it's the people. As long as the people survive, no matter how many times the village is destroyed, we can always rebuild it."
"Konoha is not just a place."
He formed a hand seal, and with a puff of smoke, a giant monkey appeared beside him.
Sighing, Hiruzen looked at Kurenai and asked, "Kurenai, how long has it been since I died?"
"Three years," she answered softly.
"Three years, huh? I didn't expect so much to happen in such a short time." A hint of sorrow appeared on Hiruzen's aged face. "After I died… who is Hokage now? Jiraiya?"
"No, it's Lady Tsunade." Kurenai tightened her grip on her kunai, staying alert for any sudden moves from Hiruzen.
Hiruzen sighed again and reached out to grab Enma, expecting his staff form. Instead, his hand landed on a bunch of fur. He froze, then instinctively turned his head.
Enma's eye twitched. "You're under someone's control, and you still want me to help you? Are you seriously trying to kill your own village's ninja?"
He was starting to think the old man had completely lost it.
Hiruzen quickly snapped back to his senses and gave an awkward smile. "I got caught in Orochimaru's control for a moment and wasn't thinking straight. Perfect timing, Enma—since you're here, help Kurenai take me down."
"Got it." Enma didn't hesitate. He immediately swung a fist at Hiruzen.
Hiruzen had more chakra than Hashirama and Madara in his current state. The moment he saw Enma attack, his body instinctively moved away. His hands flashed through a series of seals. "Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"
Enma wasn't fazed. His Adamantine Body was tough enough to withstand the Kusanagi Sword—let alone a simple Fire Style attack.
But Hiruzen was undeniably strong. Without any physical or chakra limitations, even a single Great Fireball from him was far more powerful than what an average ninja could produce.
The fire roared forward, engulfing everything in its path. There was barely any space to dodge.
But Kurenai wasn't an ordinary ninja. She stomped the ground and instantly leaped backward, avoiding the flames.
The Great Fireball crashed into the ground, followed by a loud explosion. A deep crater formed in the earth, but Enma stood in the center, completely unharmed.
Sarutobi Hiruzen landed in the distance and spoke to Kurenai, "Kurenai, sealing techniques are the key to countering Edo Tensei, but Genjutsu can also affect it to some extent. You and Enma should work together to fight me. Look for a chance to cast a powerful Genjutsu to trap me. If I can't break free from it, then it's as good as sealing Edo Tensei itself!"
"I understand!" Kurenai nodded. "Lord Enma, please take the lead in attacking."
Genjutsu users weren't suited for leading attacks. While they had techniques that could instantly take down an opponent, Genjutsu was more complex to use compared to Ninjutsu or Taijutsu.
Enma nodded as well. "Got it."
Kurenai took a deep breath. Having help was better—she needed to finish this fight with the Third Hokage quickly so she could go assist Asuma!
Sarutobi Hiruzen also sighed in relief. He trusted Kurenai's abilities. This version of Edo Tensei wasn't at full strength, and his own power was weakened as well. With Enma's support, Kurenai could fight at full power.
As long as she could restrain him, she'd be free to help the others.
"It's up to you now, Kurenai!" Hiruzen said seriously.
"Leave it to me, Lord Third," Kurenai gripped her kunai tightly.
She knew she wasn't as strong as Asuma or Kakashi, but she was still an elite ninja of Konoha. She couldn't lose—especially not here! She had to finish this quickly and go help Asuma.
Compared to Asuma, who was fighting the First Hokage and Uchiha Madara alone, her situation was much easier.
Kurenai's expression hardened as she formed a hand seal. "Genjutsu: Tree Binding Death!"
The scenery around them shifted.
To Sarutobi Hiruzen, Kurenai and Enma suddenly vanished into thin air, dissolving into mist.
A small smile appeared on his face. "Well done!"
He wished he could just let himself be killed by Kurenai's Genjutsu, but it wasn't up to him—he couldn't control his own body.
His hands formed seals, chakra surged inside him, and an immense force exploded outward.
"Earth Release: Earth Dragon Bullet!"
Immediately after, "Fire Release: Flame Bullet!"
A combination technique—Fire and Earth Dragon Bullet!
A single-person cooperative Ninjutsu—this was Sarutobi Hiruzen's specialty!
