Chapter 32: Ch. 32 - Yasaka teaches Ki!
"Tomoko-chan? Is your brother finally back hom-" Being dragged by Tomoko, Kenshin's mother suddenly froze in her tracks when she noticed the guest standing by Kenshin's side.
"Wha-!? Ken-chan brought a girl home!?" His mom clutched her hair and yelled in a surprised manner.
"Nani!? Kenshin brought a girl?!" Rushing from upstairs, his father, Kuroki Kiko, stumbled on the steps as he stared at Kenshin and Yasaka with wide eyes.
Looking at his face dripping wet and a towel around his waist, Kiko looks like he just got out of the bathroom.
"Dear! What are you doing without any clothes? Get back up there! You're embarrassing our family in front of a guest!" Slapping her forehead, Kuroki Tomo scolded her husband.
"I'm sorry! Wait!" Kiko immediately rushed back upstairs.
"Well hello there!" Tomo immediately shifted her attention to Yasaka with a smile on her face.
"Hi." Yasaka tucked her hair behind her ears, somehow becoming nervous facing Kenshin's mother.
'Why am I getting nervous all of a sudden?' Yasaka clutched her chest and muttered under her breath.
Seeing her gesture, Tomo approached her worriedly.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Before turning to Kenshin with a small glare.
"Kenshin! What did you do to her?!"
"Wha-!? I didn't do anything!?" This time, it was Kenshin's turn to panic.
'What'd I do!?' He cried in his mind.
"Why is she d-" Before she could continue her assault on Kenshin, Yasaka interrupted her before it could escalate.
"I-I'm sorry about that, Kenshin-san didn't do anything, I just felt something in my chest. It's nothing to fuss about." Yasaka reasoned with her.
"Are you sure? My son is not threatening you, is he?" She accused.
"Mom…why are you acting as if I'm a criminal…" Kenshin timidly asked.
"Of course not! I'm just you know, making sure you're handling yourself well haha~ not every day you get to have a lady as a friend not to mention, a beautiful one at that." Tomo tapped on her chin and tilted her head as if stating a fact.
"…"
"Anyways! Come in! Make yourself at home! Have I caught your name yet? I'm Kuroki Tomo, Ken-chan's mother!" Interlocking her arms with Yasaka's, Tomo dragged her inside the house, leaving Kenshin on the doorstep.
"I'm Yasaka, it's nice to meet you, Kuroki-san." Yasaka respectfully introduced herself.
"Ohh, just call me Tomo, you're my son's friend, you don't have to be so formal with me." Tomo giggled like a child as she conversed with Yasaka.
"Did you have lunch yet? Tsk tsk tsk! That stupid son of mine didn't feed you first before coming home? Come with me, I just cooked his favourite and maybe you'll like it…."
"…." Kenshin just stared at them walk away and entered the dining room, leaving him alone with his little Imouto.
"Was Mom always like that with guests?" Kenshin whispered to her in which she responded.
"No."
***
Seeing that his mom won't let go of Yasaka anytime soon, Kenshin walked upstairs and entered his room.
'Let's see how my status looks by now. Haven't seen it for days.' Kenshin muttered under his breath and willed the status screen to come out.
[Name: Alistair Abara, Kuroki Kenshin
Age: 12,690, 15
Class: Hero
Titles: Evil Slayer
Strength: 78
Magic: 101
Agility: 77
Durability: 89
Constitution: 80
Mind: 68 ]
'Looking good. Just need a few more battles and maybe I'll reach three digits on every stat aside from magic.' Kenshin mentally said to himself.
Speaking of magic, now that Kenshin has reached the three-digit mark on it, he has finally unlocked the passive ability that made him broken and overpowered back in the world of Fantazio.
[Nuclear Magic Fusion Reactor
- A passive ability that was bestowed upon the hero Alistair Abara by the will of the Universe. Connects his mana pool to the infinite energy of the Universe he occupies. Granting him access to all kinds of energies existing in the said universe and a restricted but almost inexhaustible energy pool.]
Sounds broken, right?
It really is. Not only can he now use all kinds of energy aside from his mana but he now has infinite mana albeit different from what one might think.
Imagine this, you have a cup of water and a faucet that infinitely refills the cup however when casting magic, he can only cast what the cup of water can pour, which means he can't cast beyond the maximum of the said cup of water.
He can cast a magic spell that consumes an entire cup of water but not a bucket of water since his energy capacity is just a simple cup of water, not a bucket.
To get through this is simply by increasing the Magic stat, which also increases his energy capacity, as simple as that.
"Now I can spam some of my spells without exhaustion." Nevertheless, this made Kenshin very excited.
In battle, what matters the most to win?
Having the stronger hand? No.
Strategy? A little bit but still no.
Lasting the longest? Definitely yes!
It doesn't matter if your opponent is stronger than you or has the sharpest mind. As long as you can last as long as you want, you'll never lose!
'I guess there's nothing for me to fear now. At least those that can still be beaten and not as broken as me.' Kenshin muttered to himself.
Just as he was celebrating his massive leap in strength, the door was suddenly opened just in time as he was in a victory pose
Standing by the door frame was Yasaka, whose expression was stunned by taking in the sight in front of her.
"…Pfft!" Couldn't hold it in, Yasaka started to chuckle indiscriminately.
"Ehem! I see you've finally escaped the clutches of my mother." Hiding away the embarrassment, he cleared his throat and changed the topic—after fixing his pose back to normal.
"Haha~ Right, I just did. Your mother is truly an entertaining human. She already sees me like her own daughter…" Yasaka's face gained a tinge of sadness before shifting to happiness.
Kenshin slightly understood her current feelings. After all, during their trip back home, she explained to him about her situation.
"That she is…" Kenshin smiled slightly and fell into deep thinking.
"..Say, you don't happen to want a new family, right?" Seeing the snappy turn of her head to him, Kenshin clarified.
"I'm not saying you should outright abandon everything, it's just that, I feel like you deserve better, a better family, someone who won't sell you off just for the sake of power…" As Kenshin tried to explain, Yasaka's expression turned slightly complicated.
"I appreciate your concern, Kenshin-san but even though they're no longer the caring mother and father from back then but they're still my family, If possible, I want to steer them back to how they used to be. The Leylines must've influenced my mother to do bad things, she wasn't like that to begin with…" Yasaka shook her head and kindly refused his offer, explaining the reason behind it.
"Right. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that." Kenshin silently scolded himself.
'Dammit, Kenshin. Why would you offer someone to leave their family for yours? Fucking idiot!' If Yasaka weren't here with him, he would've slapped the idiocy out of his face.
Seeing Kenshin's constantly changing expression, Yasaka softly smiled and touched his hand.
"I understand how you're feeling and I feel happy you care that much for me. You don't have to blame yourself." Perhaps it was her soft voice or maybe her words, that Kenshin finally calmed down.
"Right. Still, I want to say I'm sorry, I should've known it sooner and said something better." Kenshin shook his head and apologized with his head slightly bowed.
He's almost as old as an ancient civilization, and accountability and responsibility have long been tucked inside his being unlike some people.
"Okay then." Yasaka accepted the apology since his face seemed like he wouldn't stay quiet until she accepted it.
"Say, I'm curious about your magic. I've heard humans casting magics and such but nothing as fast and strong as yours." Yasaka asked with curiosity.
"Oh, you mean like this?" Kenshin smirked and raised his hand to cast flames that flickered from his palm in mere seconds.
"Wow. Do you use thr traditional human magic?"
"One that involves mathematics and numbers?" Yasaka nodded her head.
"I don't. I have my own magic system that I made myself." Kenshin lied straight through his teeth. Well technically, he's the only one in this world that have this kind of magic so basically which means he introduced it then, he's the creator of it, right?
"You created your own Magic System!?" Yasaka's eyes widened in surprise at the revelation.
"Why? Is it that big of a deal?" Kenshin curiously asked.
"Big of a deal? Of course it is! Only Gods and Great men in the world have managed to create their own Magic Systems!"
"Great men like who?"
"Who else but humanity's greatest magician himself, Merlin? He was the first human ever to create his own magic system which he spread across humanity for a chance to fight back against the supernatural creatures. How else do you think humanity managed to survive this long and prosper?"
Listening to Yasaka talk about the history of humans that he hasn't heard of is like attending history class all over again.
One of the things Kenshin learned was how goated Merlin is for being the first human to introduce the concept of magic to humans and even trained various magicians that became powerhouses in history.
The old man even repelled a devil invasion led by none other than Mephistopheles, one of the most well-known devils in history.
Did he forget to mention single-handedly?
The man was definitely on magical steroids or something if he managed to do the things above during his short lifespan of 139 years of living.
'Speaking of magic. Now that I have access to all forms of energy in this universe. Maybe I can finally learn Ki." Kenshin shifted his attention to Yasaka and hesitantly called out to her.
"Yasaka…"
"Hmm?" Yasaka, who was busy recalling the history of humanity that she had read in her family library, was suddenly interrupted, and curious if Kenshin had a question for her about human history.
"You don't happen to have a tradition to not teach Ki to outsiders, do you?"
"We don't, why?"
"Wait, really?" His eyes widened in surprise. How come they don't restrict their knowledge of Ki and allow them to teach others?
"Silly, of course we don't, why would we teach something that only we, Yokais can use? There's no one in the history of other races being able to use Ki aside from ourselves." Yasaka giggled at his expression and properly explained.
"Then can you teach me?" Kenshin excitedly begged.
"…Kenshin-san. Did you perhaps not hear what I just said? Other races can't use Ki aside from us." Yasaka awkwardly pointed out.
"I ha-" Kenshin stopped his words.
'Right. Just saying I have it wouldn't be enough for her to teach me fully.' He muttered and changed the structure of his words.
"It doesn't hurt to try, right? Who knows, I might be the unheard human who can use Ki." Kenshin shrugged his shoulders casually, pretending as if they're just gonna do it out of boredom.
"Alright, fine. But don't cry on my shoulders if you didn't have one, okay?" Yasaka sighed and relented.
'It's not like he's going to keep persisting if he realized that he didn't have one.' She muttered under her breath.
A few minutes later, her expression turned into shock. Her mouth was wide agape and her eyes looked like they won't blink anytime soon.
In front of her was Kenshin with a raised hand, more specifically, a glowing hand.
"S-Such pure Ki! The purest I've ever seen in my entire life!" She gasped as the white transparent Ki glowed and covered Kenshin's hand.
"Didn't I tell you? I might be the unheard human who can use Ki." Hiding behind his smirking face, Kenshin was rejoicing inside.
A new gate towards strength was just opened in front of him!
