London - Diagon Alley (02:40 PM - 17th January 1878)
Arthur still couldn't believe it, he was in Diagon Alley ! Something he wouldn't have thought possible in his previous life, yet was made a reality in this one.
'Just how do the houses even manage to stay in one piece with an architecture like that ? Oh, right, magic. Those are magical houses…'
This little stroll in the heart of the magical community made him absolutely impressed with the beauty and versatility of magic. He knew it was a magical world, he had already had a bout of accidental magic, he had read a lot about this world from the original books and fanfictions alike, but none of that had managed to depict the sheer magnificence of magic. His eyes showed him something that simply couldn't be described in words alone, and something was somehow ignited in his little heart at that moment, he knew he had found a new passion in life : magic.
He had already planned to study magic, but it was because he thought he could understand it with enough research, he viewed magic with cold efficiency, only seeing all the benefits it could bring him, and all the power he could gain with it. Now, awestruck with its magnificence, he wanted to simply explore it, to experience all its wonders and possibilities; seeing magic with his very own eyes had changed how he viewed it.
When he finally snapped out of his reverie, he swore to truly explore magic, not to simply view it as a path to power and supremacy. He wouldn't abandon all his plans, not at all, he would still try to become a strong wizard, but he would be one motivated by the wonders of magic instead of its benefits.
This strengthened his desire to explore the world once and for all, making him extremely impatient to start his path as a wizard. A path that would naturally start with a stop at the bookshop, which reminded him that he was limited to only one book, something that now simply wouldn't do, not after everything he had seen today.
'They won't change their mind, they still think that I collect books instead of really reading them, they don't believe that I can read, so they think that it's a waste to give me books. That's perfectly normal since I am still a 3 years old child and no one taught me, who would believe that I could read ? But still, just one book ?'
'Should I show them I can read ? That's going to be annoying, I have tried hard to not show that I can read when they are nearby, but I could twist that fact to my advantage somehow… Being a genius means a lot of expectations, but maybe some benefits as well…'
Arthur hadn't noticed, but above him, in the air, the owls were dancing, clouds were continuously taking wondrous forms and plants seemed to sway to some very low but joyful tune that was carried by the wind.
It was without doubt him having another bout of accidental magic, his sheer happiness and awe seemed to resonate with magic itself, adding a layer of wonder to the already magical street, making anyone in sight feel like they were seeing magic for the first time as well.
Numerous wizards and witches started to reminisce about the past, about the first time they had seen magic and had been filled with awe in the same place, all of them impressed and feeling slightly nostalgic because of the incredible feat of magic the child had performed without knowing.
His parents were now chuckling near him, happy to finally see him act like a child. They had seen his eyes filled with wonder and pure joy earlier, something they were very relieved to see while the magic atmosphere he created made them once again feel the awe of seeing magic, just like everyone else.
They tried to hide it, but they had been very worried about him for years now. He didn't act like most children his age, he didn't have any friends, and was reluctant to see anyone except them. And even then, he could always be seen with a closed book at home and his habit of getting rid of his suits, although fun once they got used to it, was very concerning. He always found a new way of making them disappear, something no child should be capable of.
Though the existence of magic could explain a lot of things, he clearly wasn't normal by any means, and they suspected his obsession with books had a deeper meaning than just being a kind of hoarding tendency.
They even started to fear that their families had a hand in this peculiarity of his, maybe some kind of magical experiment, something Alice's family, the Polaris, was pretty well known for, alongside their overinflated ego and tendency to think themselves above anyone else, despite the fact that they weren't even among the sacred 28.
Seeing him like that really warmed their heart, enough for them to consider buying more than one book, to make sure he would always fondly remember his first day in the world of magic.
Arthur, on the other hand, was completely oblivious to their happiness, his head was once again in the clouds, like it always was when he was thinking deeply about something.
'I have thought about how I could avoid going to school for quite some time. I would absolutely hate to go there for most of the day, to be with insufferable children all this time and learn things I already know. I already hate social interactions, I am not wasting my time with children who can't count, read or write and cry for no reason.'
'The best answer I found so far is to show that I simply don't need it, so I could use that now. If I show that I am a genius they will buy me books way more easily since in their mind it will now be for my education instead of just *toying with them*. And as a genius, they will believe me more easily if I say I can self-study what they do in school while I concentrate on my magical studies at home.'
'But they WILL be worried for me if I have no social interactions at all, they are already very concerned because I still don't have friends and hope I will finally find some in school. They aren't really that good at hiding it.'
'But now if I don't go to school they will be even more worried and will refuse. Thankfully there are other ways to make friends outside of school : I originally wanted to practice a lot of sports, mainly self defense ones, before knowing I got magic. Although I abandoned the idea after that… it might just be my only way to avoid school now. If avoiding it is even possible.'
'Why do I feel that my life is now just made of schemes and manipulations ? Have I ever done anything in this life that isn't calculated ? It seems I really need friends or I will become Dumbledore n°2. It seems that my parents were right after all. But how do I find someone I can REALLY be friends with ? All the children my age are dumb crying babies and befriending an adult will clearly be suspicious, both for said adult and me.'
'Anyways, going to school is a big, non-negotiable *NO* and I want my magic books if possible !'
'Dropping another bombshell, and so close to the previous one about magic, that's going to be annoying, indeed. I better ask nicely for some more books and only play the genius card if it doesn't work, they seem pretty happy after all, the happier they are, the more easily they will spend money !'

London - Diagon Alley - Flourish and Blotts (03:15 PM - 17th January 1878)
Revealing his ability to read books turned out to be unnecessary, his parents were more than happy to see him jump everywhere and take a look at every book he could find, even allowing him to bring up to 3 books back at home.
Seeing him look at every single synopsis on the back of the books did give them the impression he could read as he didn't even try to hide it, unlike when he was home, where he would always be seen with closed books, never open ones. They silently decided to investigate later at home, not on the spot, making sure he could enjoy this day to the fullest.
'Standard book of spells - Grade 4…No'
'Magical Theory…Maybe ?'
Arthur was roaming happily around the bookstore, hoping to find some book about the fundamentals of magic, something that could be applied in every field related to magic. If he was going to be learning, he had to know the fundamentals, the things to always pay attention to and the taboos he wanted to avoid like the plague until he was way more knowledgeable.
'Witches' hair potions and spells…As if I cared !'
He was a bit surprised by titles of some books he found on the bookshelves, a few were not even magic related and the shopkeeper seemed to have a *adult books* section probably full of *special wand techniques* in the darkest corner of his bookstore.
But aside from the mandatory 'Magical theory' he would need to buy for Hogwarts anyways, and a second hand book on the mind arts, he didn't find anything really incredible.
'I guess I will find the best books in the restricted section of the Hogwarts' library. This shop has the basic books and a few cool ones but nothing really rare or special, at least, not out in the open.'
He started to go back to the entrance, where his parents were waiting, trying to find some books for Squibs, which they didn't find from what he could see. He had chosen three books, the maximum his parents allowed him to take, the first one was understandably 'Magical theory' , the second 'The mind arts for dummies' and the third was 'Wizarding world's common sense for Muggleborns'.
There wasn't anything really practical about magic, he was still 3 years old and he didn't have a wand or potion ingredients so his choices were really restricted. He could always come back here for his birthdays and Christmas gifts, so twice a year, in case he needed a new book.
All in all, Arthur was really satisfied with his day in the magical world, beaming the whole time, with his little stack of books in his hands. Especially after tasting some ice cream from an old witch in the *Icy & Creamy* shop near Gringotts.
He didn't enter Gringotts, however, as his age and lack of money made it impossible for him to open a vault.
'I really need to grow up, it's starting to be urgent now ! I can't get a wand, a vault or too many books, and as if it wasn't enough I am too short and weak to do anything !'
'Time to use my newest spell ! Time skip !'

Author's note :
Arthur's childhood is fun and all, but we will never reach Hogwarts if we don't hurry up a little.
He will soon be old enough to be really independent, as much as a child can be at least, which means he will calm down on the schemes and manipulations to get what he wants, especially since he already has everything he needs and now only needs to accumulate.
So there is nothing much to say about the next few years that can't be said in a single chapter. Do note that even after the time skip he won't have made much progress in magic, children can't control their magic before their magic stabilises at around 11 years old (if it's not canon then oops, now it is official in this story)
So the next chapter will be about what happened during the time skip and his last year before Hogwarts. The chapter after that will be the letter and shopping, and you know, the usual !
Long story short, his pitiful life as a baby is reaching its end, he will be at Hogwarts in 3 chapters now, ready to finally learn magic !
