Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Top Secret (6)
# Severus Snape: "Barty Crouch Jr.?"
Snape stepped forward, his sharp gaze falling on the face of the man lying on the ground. His mind seemed to race for a moment before he spoke:
# Severus Snape: "Do you even understand the consequences of committing murder yourself?! Hand him over to the Ministry of Magic."
## Orli: "They already let that rat escape! I don't trust them, especially old Crouch..."
Orli's voice was urgent, but time was running out.
With a rapid series of pops, no less than twenty wizards descended from the sky, surrounding the unconscious Barty Crouch Jr. on the ground. Snape wasted no time, pulling Orli behind a tree. His black robes merged seamlessly with the shadows, pinning Orli between him and the rough bark. In that fleeting moment, he had cast a binding spell on her, rendering her motionless and voiceless. She could only watch helplessly as the scene unfolded.
# Arthur Weasley: "What's going on here?! Diggory, you were nearby earlier. Did you see this man?"
Mr. Weasley demanded.
The man called Diggory was the same individual Orli had noticed earlier, the one who had taken Flash. If his surname was Diggory, he might indeed be Cedric's father. Orli couldn't be certain, as she had no personal connection with Cedric.
# Male Wizard: "Of course not,"
Mr. Diggory snapped irritably, scratching his chin before giving Barty Crouch Jr. a sharp kick.
# Male Wizard: "This guy's unconscious and under a Petrification Curse. These bloody bushes—I didn't see him at all earlier."
# Old Crouch: "What is happening here?"
A cold, detached voice cut through the tension. A man in his fifties, accompanied by several Aurors, strode to the edge of the clearing. His posture was rigid, his movements mechanical. Dressed in a spotless suit and tie, his short black hair was meticulously combed, the parting unnaturally precise. His narrow toothbrush mustache looked as if it had been trimmed with a ruler, giving him the air of a bank manager.
# Arthur Weasley: "Oh, Barty, you're here too."
Mr. Weasley wiped the sweat from his brow.
# Arthur Weasley: "This night has been... exhausting..."
His words faltered as old Barty Crouch's face turned ashen upon recognizing the man on the ground. Beside him, a witch in a dressing gown let out a shriek as piercing as nails on a chalkboard:
# Witch: "That's... Barty Jr.! Wasn't he supposed to be dead?!"
Orli couldn't see what happened next. The moment the Ministry officials confirmed Barty Crouch Jr.'s identity, Snape swiftly Apparated her away.
She lost track of how many times they Apparated, the chaotic flashes of scenery blurring together. When they finally stopped in front of the Waters family estate, she doubled over, retching violently. Snape yanked off her Invisibility Cloak and outer robe, the contents of her pockets spilling onto the ground with a metallic clatter.
# Severus Snape: "Should I feel gratified that my teachings over the past month seem to have been remarkably effective?"
Snape's voice was calm—so calm it was more menacing than any sneer or insult.
One by one, he picked up the items from the ground, his tone dripping with controlled disdain:
# Severus Snape: "An untraceable old wand, to avoid detection by the Ministry. No Unforgivable Curses, but a clever combination of a Petrification Curse and a Shattering Curse to kill. Corrosive potions for disposing of the body. You truly are a natural-born killer, Orli Waters. It seems we've all underestimated you."
He froze as he picked up the last vial of potion.
# Severus Snape: "And... a soul stabilizer. Look at this—a fourteen-year-old Gryffindor who already understands that murder fractures the soul."
