HP: The Dropout Who Saved the World

Chapter 243: Chapter 243: Nervousness

For the next three months, aside from reviewing and exams, everything at the school remained calm, as if Voldemort hadn't caused any commotion.

But at the end-of-term ceremony, Dumbledore cleared his throat and said:

"A turbulent year."

The students in the Great Hall were as noisy as ever, but some of their faces didn't look so good.

Jane Yu observed everyone's expressions and noticed that students like Susan Bones and the Weasley children had a shadow of worry on their brows. Cedric was also propping his face up, his mind seemingly elsewhere, and some Slytherin students wore strange expressions...

"You know, Yu," Daphne whispered to her, "the Ministry of Magic... they've been arguing all these months."

"My dad wrote to me about a lot of things. Director Bones and Minister Fudge seem to have some disagreements... many officials are wavering..."

On the stage, Dumbledore continued to speak, his voice much more relaxed:

"Let's start with something pleasant. First, let's congratulate Slytherin's Jane Yu for winning the Triwizard Tournament!"

The Great Hall erupted in applause and cheers. Although this had already been celebrated many times, it didn't stop everyone from showing happy smiles.

After all, it's a matter of school honor, and besides, it's Jane Yu! A champion among champions, a strong figure among the strong! An idol among idols!

"Now, let's congratulate Slytherin again, for winning the House Cup for the tenth consecutive year!"

The Slytherin students wore reserved smiles. They had realized that as long as Jane Yu sat at the Slytherin table, they could win effortlessly, the House Cup sticking to her like a magnet.

Students from other houses had also come to this realization, which might explain why they remained unfazed when Snape and the other professors deducted points—since the House Cup was with Slytherin anyway, they might as well let loose!

Like jumping into the Black Lake for a swim, or getting into a fight for Jane Yu... the feeling of letting go was particularly great!

"Headmaster, just like every year, you should announce Jane's fourth Special Contribution Award quickly!"

A brave little lion's voice urged, causing most of the students in the hall to burst into laughter, with whistles and cheers filling the air.

But some couldn't laugh, and their faces even turned quite grim.

This included the main trio, the Weasley siblings, Susan, Cedric... those students whose families worked at the Ministry of Magic...

They more or less knew the inside story, understood what had happened, and guessed what Dumbledore was about to announce.

"Yes," Dumbledore said slowly, but his expression became unusually serious, "indeed, she has received another Special Contribution Award."

"Perhaps some of you have noticed or heard from rumors—Barty Crouch Jr. disguised himself as Professor Moody, lurking in the school, waiting for an opportunity to harm the students."

Students who were unaware gasped in horror, and Professor Moody stood up abruptly, saying loudly:

"It's true! That despicable scoundrel—I was knocked out and stuffed into a trunk! The Dark Lord has returned!"

Dumbledore raised his hand and said in a voice like a bell:

"Quiet!"

The Great Hall fell silent, the sound of a pin drop could be heard, and expressions of relief or horror froze on everyone's faces.

He surveyed the hall with a heavy gaze and continued:

"Yes, as you suspect, with her assistance, his whereabouts were exposed."

"He lurked in this school to serve Voldemort, and to some extent, he succeeded."

At the mention of Voldemort's name, the hall erupted into whispers again, everyone's expressions turning to fear and panic, and some couldn't help but stand up; at the Slytherin table, Draco, Theodore, Daphne... the little snakes wore expressions of nervousness, with Theodore being particularly noticeable.

"This is something the Ministry of Magic won't tell you." Dumbledore said calmly, as if he didn't feel the students' fear at all, "Although ignorance can deceive oneself for a good night's sleep, the danger lurking in the shadows won't disappear by covering your ears; it will only continue to ferment."

"Perhaps your parents might doubt my words, but for your safety, to prevent accidents during the summer break, as the headmaster of this school, I must announce this information and remind you of one thing—"

"Protect yourselves, stay vigilant, and I hope we can all sit here well next school year."

He raised his wine-filled goblet, saluted everyone, and signaled that the students could start eating.

But no one could move their knives and forks.

The expressions on the Slytherin students' faces were particularly colorful, with some showing excitement, some nervousness, some heaviness, but mostly fear and dread.

Jane Yu understood their feelings; the pure-blooded little snakes' family ties were intricate, and tracing back a few generations, one could always find some relatives and even former Death Eaters who served Voldemort.

Theodore's expression had become unbearably grim, and she knew it was because of his father; Draco's expression was also fixed in complexity, in fact, he had been acting particularly unusual these days, not even being talkative.

Perhaps due to their family's neutrality, Daphne and Blaise were the most normal among them, and after a while, they started eating pudding.

"Merlin—I thought you disappeared for those two days to go out with Dumbledore!" Daphne grumbled softly with her mouth full of pudding, "You did such a big thing without a word!"

"Is it true?" Blaise almost buried his face under the table, quietly asking her, "That person... has returned?"

After receiving Jane Yu's confirmation, the two fell into contemplation.

But they weren't too worried, with their shallow connections to the Death Eaters, one planned to feign illness with his mother; the other planned to have his father move to France, hoping to take his sister along with Jane Yu to Beauxbatons.

The essence of 'retreat is the best strategy' seemed to have been played out by them.

But just as the banquet was about to end, Draco suddenly slipped an invitation into Jane Yu's hand.

"My father... and my mother want to invite you to our house again."

He looked nervous, as if he had matured significantly in just a few days:

"It doesn't have to be at our house, you can choose the meeting place."
