Chapter 254: Chapter 254: The Chalice's Ordeal
The fragment of Voldemort's soul within the golden cup endured an unprecedented mental assault.
One by one, his deepest fears unfolded before him.
He found himself back at Wool's Orphanage!
Facing a crowd of Muggles, he sneered maliciously, ready to blow the place apart and kill everyone:
"Lowly, stupid animals—filthy Muggle blood—Avada Kedavra!"
Nothing happened—not even a flicker of green light.
He realized, to his horror, that his body was empty, completely devoid of magic!
"That freak! He's lost his powers!"
The children he had bullied, threatened, and stolen from screamed in delight, picking up stones and pelting him until he was writhing in pain.
The terror of becoming a Muggle forced him to flee in humiliation, tail between his legs, from children his own age. He desperately tried to console himself, thinking perhaps his magic was just temporarily suppressed, or that he simply needed a wand to cast spells.
He caught a small snake, a creature he had always been able to communicate with, a loyal servant he could command—
But when he hissed at it, the snake didn't respond at all, as if it couldn't understand him. Instead, it sank its fangs into his arm!
Even his Parseltongue ability was gone!
The fear of losing his magic, becoming a Muggle, and losing his loyal servants plunged Voldemort into despair. His innate arrogance made it almost impossible for him to accept that he had become the very thing he despised the most—a pathetic, ant-like creature. He wished he could kill himself to reset everything.
But his overwhelming fear of death stopped him.
It's fine, he thought. When I turn eleven, Hogwarts will send someone to fetch me.
Clinging to this hope, he endured in humiliation until his eleventh birthday—
For the first time in his life, he eagerly awaited Dumbledore's arrival!
Dumbledore did come, but he took another child instead.
"I am one of you!" Panic and jealousy turned his eyes blood-red. "I have this ability—"
"Though I'm not sure how you've learned about such abilities," Dumbledore said, his tone calm and controlled as ever, "you are not on the admission list, child."
Riddle reached out to grab Dumbledore's sleeve, trying to win sympathy with his usual charm, but Dumbledore disappeared with a "pop," Apparating right before his eyes.
Now, he truly became what he despised the most—a pathetic, ant-like Muggle!
But this was only the beginning of his nightmare.
Ten identical Tom Marvolo Riddles stood before him!
"You are merely fragments of my soul—my Horcruxes. It is time for you to return to me," the main soul, self-proclaimed as Voldemort, declared ominously. "You are just Horcruxes. I am the true Voldemort."
No, this couldn't be!
He couldn't accept this. He could tolerate the existence of fragments of his soul, but he could never accept that he was not unique!
But evidently, the other Tom Marvolo Riddles thought the same. They all shouted:
"I am the true Voldemort—I have thoughts and memories—"
The green light of Killing Curses filled the air. One by one, he fell, each turning into a cold, stiff corpse.
"No—I am the true Voldemort—I am not a Horcrux—"
He screamed in agony, facing the greatest fear of his life—his own death!
The golden cup trembled violently. After the protective enchantments on it were broken, something seemed to dissolve within—
Perhaps it was Voldemort's pride and resilience.
…
Standing in the 360° no-dead-angle 4D IMAX panoramic screen, the plastic master-and-apprentice duo simultaneously let out disdainful and scornful remarks.
"A spineless, easily shattered, death-fearing coward," Jane Yu commented with a string of adjectives. "Just a little scare, and he's mentally broken. Tsk—"
Her assessment received approval from Vogel, who was, in truth, a fattened-up Gellert Grindelwald.
"Since this fragment of the soul has already loosened," he said, clapping his hands lightly after watching the self-directed drama, "the final step is to use a powerful dark spell to separate it from the cup."
Faced with Jane Yu's curious gaze, he raised his head slightly and spread his hands.
A foreboding feeling began to creep into Jane Yu's heart again.
"Miss Scamander, learning comes at a price. The casting of this spell will be your final lesson of the summer."
As his words fell, blue flames engulfed the small room. The golden cup in Jane Yu's hand let out an ear-piercing scream as a black, sticky substance oozed from it, emitting a foul stench before being burned away by the flames!
—It was a fiery shield!
Yet she herself was unharmed by the flames surrounding her, and the golden cup gradually regained its gleaming luster.
Amid the flames, Jane Yu couldn't see Vogel's expression clearly. She could only see his dark silhouette casting a large shadow and hear his hoarse voice:
"You have five minutes before the Ministry arrives—leave now, and you'll still make it to the start of term—"
Betrayed!
Realizing he intended to burn the house down, Jane Yu grabbed her suitcase and dashed out the door!
She knew it—this old man still harbored a grudge and wanted revenge for her dragon crash!
She shouldn't have fattened him up, allowing him to regain his strength and oppose her!
Now her house, furniture, and appliances… all gone!
He had turned the tide in their ongoing battle!
Jane Yu heard the roar of a dragon from the distant forest, growing closer and closer, until she was picked up by the dragon and carried away, flying higher and farther.
In her haste, she struggled to look back, only to see a symbol rising above the blazing blue flames—
A triangle, a circle in the center, and a vertical line!
