Jane Yu decided to make an attempt at conversation with her new roommate.

After all, she wasn't sure when her plan to drop out would succeed, which meant she'd probably have to live with Daphne for a while.

Given Daphne's close relationship with Pansy and Millicent, Jane worried that her belongings might mysteriously disappear one day, or worse, be cursed with some mysterious hex.

Therefore, maintaining a peaceful coexistence as roommates seemed necessary.

"Why did you move here?" Jane inquired.

The curtains around Daphne's bed rustled slightly, and a muffled voice came from within:

"I... had a fight with Parkinson, and Professor Snape allowed me to change rooms."

Inside, Daphne was panicking!

She was certain that Jane must be furious about her moving into this room without permission and would probably get rid of her!

Considering Jane's reputation for making people disappear without a trace...

She might not even live to see tomorrow!

Daphne thought despairingly.

Jane had no idea that Daphne's imagination had already spiraled from fears of being cursed to being disposed of entirely.

She was merely surprised at what kind of deep-seated grudge could have caused such a rift between Daphne and Pansy, forcing her to seek Professor Snape's help and move in with someone they considered a "Muggle-born witch."

"Must have been quite a serious conflict to get kicked out of your room," she muttered, expressing her confusion about these pureblood Slytherins' complex social dynamics.

Though curious, she decided not to probe further, respecting the girl's privacy.

After all, Daphne seemed to be in quite a delicate mental state, considering she was too scared to even emerge from behind her bed curtains to face her new roommate.

However, her decision not to ask didn't stop Daphne from speaking up.

The young witch suddenly found a burst of courage, yanked open her curtains with a "swoosh," took a deep breath, and exclaimed:

"I can help you!"

Jane doubted her ears.

What was she talking about helping with?

Had her perfectly honed English listening skills somehow regressed after a year?

"Help me with what?"

Daphne darted down from her bed, rushed to Jane's bedside in two quick steps, and stared at her with serious eyes:

"Theodore's father will never allow you to marry into the Nott family!"

"But I can help you, with the Greengrass family's status and position..."

"If you help me defeat Parkinson and win Draco..."

The young witch's face turned red with embarrassment, her unfinished words trailing off under Jane's troll-like stare.

Jane's jaw nearly hit the floor!

This was terrifying!

She was only twelve years old - this was definitely puppy love!

In Chinese schools, if the guidance counselor caught wind of this, it would mean disciplinary action or even expulsion!

And this was a love triangle involving three people!

Wait, was this perhaps a feature of British culture?

Jane felt an immense culture shock.

British education was truly horrifying!

So she responded with a wooden expression:

"First, I have no interest in the Nott family."

"Second, where I'm from, puppy love affects studies and is punishable by disciplinary action—"

"And third, your complicated relationship drama has nothing to do with me—"

Now it was Daphne's turn to look at Jane as if she were a troll.

To dismiss one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight families like the Notts so easily - just how glorious must her lost Eastern family have been?

And to think that family had such strict requirements for their descendants!

Forbidding romance because it affected studies?

They must spend every day practicing all sorts of advanced spells, striving to become powerful wizards!

No wonder Jane was so formidable!

While others were already reaching for the stars, she was still caught up in petty romance!

She had an epiphany and suddenly felt foolish!

Jane watched as various expressions flitted across Daphne's face, finally settling on a look of admiration, worship, and respect.

"I understand now!" The young witch clenched her fists and nodded earnestly. "Thank you for your guidance!"

On her very first day as a roommate, her new dormmate had reminded her not to waste her studies on romance!

Even though she had spoken ill of Jane behind her back before, Jane had still saved her in class!

This was truly someone worth befriending!

She would definitely support Jane and Theodore's relationship!

After all, theirs was completely a secret romance, unsupported by both families—

One family refusing marriage with a half-blood witch, the other forbidding romance during school years—

It must be true love!

What a beautiful romance!

Daphne's eyes sparkled as she wore a doting smile.

Jane was completely baffled.

She had thought this girl's mental state was a bit ahead of her time!

But as long as she understood, that was good - just as long as she stopped spreading rumors about Jane and Theodore dating.

"Glad you understand. Study hard and keep improving."

She breathed a sigh of relief.

But she noticed Daphne's eyes growing even brighter, seeming more excited than before.

Yes, she must study hard!

As long as she studied hard and became a stronger witch than Parkinson, love would come naturally!

Perhaps she could go to France or Germany, and marry a powerful pureblood wizard there!

Instead of staying in Britain dealing with these mediocre options!

...

Jane was completely unaware of her roommate's wild imagination.

She was carrying her cauldron and potion ingredients to a girls' bathroom on the second floor.

Having a new roommate was really inconvenient, forcing her to brew her beauty potions in secret.

Fortunately, this abandoned bathroom was rumored to be haunted, so no one used it, providing her with an undisturbed space.

She overlooked one problem - while there might be no human disturbances, there were ghostly ones.

When a toilet lid suddenly slammed open with a "bang" and splashed dirty water all over her, Jane finally realized the issue.

A pearly-white, semi-transparent female ghost shot up from the toilet, beginning to wail shrilly as toilet water sprayed everywhere.

The beauty potion was completely ruined now, with the dirty water having splashed into the cauldron - thankfully, Jane hadn't used all her powdered Bubotuber pus at once, so the loss wasn't too severe.

She carefully observed the ghost, noting that she was short and squat, with a gloomy face, golden-brown hair covering half her face, and wearing large pearly spectacles.

From what was visible of her face, the ghost had apparently had bad skin in life, covered in acne and pimples.

Perhaps they could come to an arrangement...

"Hello, it's nice to see you here."

Jane greeted her.

Moaning Myrtle looked at her suspiciously, and upon realizing she was an unfamiliar Slytherin student, began to shriek:

"No, don't lie to me—"

"Nobody's ever happy to see me! You think I don't know what they call me behind my back? Fat Myrtle, Ugly Myrtle, Pimply Myrtle!"

She began sobbing heartbrokenly and dove back into the toilet, splashing water everywhere again.

The toilet lid slammed shut.

No matter how much Jane called out, Myrtle just continued crying and screaming inside, refusing to come out again.
