Lise's blackthorn wand was left at the shop because her mother said it wasn't suitable to bring to school. However, her mother also didn't take her to the old, shabby house to retrieve her previous wand.

What should she do now? The class schedule on her desk clearly showed that the first lesson tomorrow was Transfiguration. Without a wand, was she supposed to threaten the target with Gabon and transform herself?

Clutching Gabon tightly, Lise fell asleep in frustration. The next morning, unable to sleep due to worry, she appeared early in the Great Hall for breakfast. On the first day of school, owls were flying all over the hall, delivering forgotten items and letters of reminders to the careless young wizards.

Among them, a gray-black owl caught everyone's attention. This owl wasn't carrying a letter but was clutching a wand in its talons.

Everyone who saw this started whispering. No one had ever seen a wizard go to school without a wand and have to rely on an owl to deliver it.

Recognizing her wand, Lise quickly reached out to attract the owl's attention, grabbing a piece of bread from her plate as a reward. However, even after dropping the wand, the owl didn't leave. It just stared fixedly at Lise's shoulder.

While Lise was still puzzled, the owl suddenly flapped its wings and lunged forward. "Shoo, shoo!" It seemed the owl was trying to hunt Gabon.

A flurry of feathers hit her face, her hair tangled into a mess, and her shoulder was pecked by the bird's beak. Lise hurriedly tried to cover Gabon with her hands, but after frantically searching her shoulder, she couldn't find him. In her panic, Lise grabbed the bird, trying to throw it away, but it wasn't that easy. The owl had a firm grip on her hair, keeping her within its attack range.

The first reaction of her classmates was to step back—fighting with a bird was far from elegant.

Once Lise realized that Gabon had crawled into her shirt and was safe, she focused entirely on fighting the owl. She grabbed its head and refused to let go, while the owl clung to her hair with its talons, equally unwilling to release its grip.

In the end, the professor in charge of Magical Creatures at the teacher's table had to step in to resolve the situation. As a result, Lise had to attend her first Transfiguration class of the term with messy hair and scratches all over her face.

"Oh, my poor, disheveled child. Perhaps you should tidy up your appearance," Professor McGonagall remarked. She hadn't been in the Great Hall for breakfast, so she had missed the spectacular "Hogwarts Human vs. Bird Battle."

The goal of this class was to learn how to turn living creatures into inanimate objects, such as transforming a rat into a goblet.

With a wave of her wand, Professor McGonagall turned the podium into a pig and then back again. Since the pig had taken a couple of steps, she used the Levitation Charm to move it back to its original position.

With another wave of her wand, she transformed a rat on the table into a delicate goblet.

Lise found it hard to understand. Could a pig transformed from a podium be roasted and eaten? Could a goblet transformed from a rat really be used for drinking water? If necessary, couldn't one use other inanimate objects for transformation? Imagine a wizard discovering they had no slippers, finding a rabbit, and using Transfiguration to turn it into a pair of slippers. Something about that just felt... off.

"Well then, who can tell me, according to Gamp's Law…"

Lise snapped out of her daydream at Professor McGonagall's question. She knew this one—she had just studied it during the holidays. Her textbook-perfect answer earned Slytherin two points.

She also turned out to be one of the faster students to achieve noticeable transformations in class, though her goblet still emitted pitiful squeaks from the rat.

Before class ended, Lise managed to turn the rat back to its original form and even poked it with the tip of her wand to check its condition. Satisfied that it was still in good health, she packed up her things and prepared for the next class, Herbology. The next class was with Hufflepuff, and maybe she could be in the same group as El.

Aside from the morning's fight with the owl, it was practically a perfect day. As she clipped off the tangled sections of her hair with scissors, cutting it short, she said, "Gabon, if you ever encounter danger again, do what you did this morning. Protect yourself, okay?"

The little snake lay on the desk, staring at Lise without blinking. Feeling content, Lise swept away the cut hair and opened a book her father had assigned her to read, beginning the long journey of looking up magical terms in the dictionary.

El had been quite troubled lately. His Slytherin friend had recently become obsessed with cooking, claiming she wanted to cook for her mother during the next holiday. Naturally, she needed someone to taste-test her creations. While most of them were delicious, there were some exceptions…

"Lise! Ginger root is an ingredient for cough potions—you shouldn't throw it into the soup pot! Oh, I swear, I'm not drinking a drop of this soup!"

"Wow, it smells amazing!" He gulped down a whole bowl.

"Starlise! Tooth-strengthening potion isn't a seasoning—you shouldn't mix it into a drink!"

"Oh, this is so refreshing to drink, isn't it?" He downed a whole glass.

El fully embodied the contradictory attitude of fearing for his life one moment and praising the food the next.

"Lise, how did you end up in Slytherin? You should've been in Hufflepuff with me!"

"Oh no, Lise, keep that snake away from me. Little Pig is about to die of fright. You definitely belong in Slytherin!"

Sometimes, when Lise made too much food, she would even have El take some back for his dormmates to try.

Lise's limited pocket money quickly ran out from buying basic potion ingredients. Eventually, even the Hufflepuffs started paying her to make food for them.
