Time flew by, and soon it was evening. Glen had already arrived at the entrance of the Gryffindor common room, waiting for Hermione.
He had notified Snape in advance about tonight's duel and invited him to be the referee. Snape had readily agreed. Now they just needed to arrive at his office and wait for both contestants to arrive to start the duel immediately.
There was movement on the wall, and the portrait of the Fat Lady slowly moved aside. Hermione angrily crawled out of the hole in the wall.
She complained to Glen in frustration, "I can't believe it! Harry and Ron actually think Malfoy got that Nimbus 2000 because he stole Neville's Remembrall. Does he think it's a reward for breaking school rules?"
"I just said a few words to them, and they actually told me to shut up. How could they do that? The points I work so hard to earn every day are almost all deducted by their group, and they still have the nerve to complain about me?" Hermione was really angry. If they weren't in the same house, she really wouldn't want to have anything to do with those guys. No, she didn't want to see that group at all!
Glen silently helped smooth Hermione's ruffled feathers, comforting the angry little girl.
"You can vent your anger on Draco in the upcoming duel," Glen said coldly, diverting Hermione's attention.
Although Glen was very confident in Hermione's abilities, the mindset and state during battle could greatly influence the situation.
He still needed to keep the little girl's attention focused. It wouldn't be good if she got hurt later.
"You're right, I don't care about those stinky boys anymore," Hermione calmed down, nodding obediently, and started silently reciting the spells she might use later.
They descended several flights of stairs from the eighth floor and arrived at the door of Snape's office on the first floor of the dungeon.
Glen knocked on the door, and Snape's cold voice came from inside, "Enter."
The two pushed open the door and walked in. Snape, wearing his familiar black robes, was sitting at his desk brewing potions. In the area that was originally the living room, a space had been temporarily expanded using an Undetectable Extension Charm, and a square area had been raised on the flat ground to serve as the dueling platform.
Snape glanced at the two of them without saying anything. Glen and Hermione were used to Snape's way of greeting and didn't say anything either. They quietly sat down on the sofa, recalling spells while waiting for Draco to arrive.
At eight o'clock sharp, Draco arrived alone at Snape's office, looking confident as he strode to the sofa, giving Hermione a challenging look.
The little girl wouldn't indulge him. She snorted and glared back without any fear.
"Since everyone's here, let's get on stage," Snape had just finished brewing a potion. He corked the bottle and placed it in the storage cabinet, tidied up his desk a bit, and walked straight towards the dueling arena.
Glen led Hermione to the stage. Before she went up, Glen quietly encouraged her, "Good luck." The girl replied with a slight smile and confidently walked to one side of the dueling arena.
Draco had also arrived on the other side by now, and both were ready to go.
Glen and Snape stood side by side as Snape coldly introduced the dueling rules to the two.
Draco presumably already knew these rules and was waiting rather impatiently.
"Before the duel begins, both parties should first bow to each other as a sign of respect. Next, assume the specific wand dueling gesture like this," Snape gripped his wand, demonstrating his posture. "Finally, I will count down from three, and then you can start casting spells."
He snorted and grinned, "Try your best with magic. I've prepared healing potions. As long as you don't die instantly, I can bring you back."
Draco on the side visibly shuddered. Although he was Snape's godson, he really couldn't figure out his godfather's eccentric personality. He felt Snape might actually do that.
Hermione, on the other hand, secretly made a face at Snape.
"You can start preparing now," Snape announced, giving the two no chance to relieve the pressure in their hearts.
The three were not surprised. It was already difficult for Snape to spare time to be their referee today. He couldn't wait for one of them to lose quickly and end the match, so he could send them away and continue with his research.
The two bowed, drew their wands, and assumed the specific posture.
"Three... two... one, begin."
"Diffindo!" "Dente..." Hermione quickly uttered the incantation for the Severing Charm, and a white light shot fiercely at the empty ground beside Draco, cutting deep marks into the surface. Small broken stones splattered out.
Draco, who was about to use the minor hex Densaugeo, was dumbfounded.
What the hell? If that Severing Charm had hit him, wouldn't he have been done for?
Amidst his terror, he was also quite relieved that Hermione's aim wasn't good. He quickly came to his senses and prepared to cast the hex he hadn't released earlier.
Hermione, who often engaged in practical combat drills with Glen, wouldn't give him a chance. She showed no panic at her spell missing earlier, quickly running to dodge Draco's hex while chanting the incantation for the Levitation Charm, "Wingardium Leviosa!"
The benefits of good positioning were evident now. Draco's hex was easily dodged by Hermione's sidestep, while her Levitation Charm hit his wand directly, interrupting Draco's next spell casting process.
The Levitation Charm couldn't affect the human body, but for a mere wand, Hermione could easily make it float.
The wand in Draco's hand uncontrollably wanted to fly upwards, and with considerable force. He had to pause his spellcasting to counter that annoying upward force.
Hermione successfully ran to the position she had considered earlier, stopping her maintenance of the Levitation Charm. Draco's downward pressure suddenly met no resistance, and caught off guard, he stumbled, his center of gravity shifting forward.
Hermione's lips curled slightly. She knew she had succeeded; Draco had entered the position she had imagined.
She clearly saw his supporting leg about to step on one of the stone fragments that had shattered due to the Severing Charm hitting the ground at the beginning.
Now! !
"Engorgio!" Hermione aimed at the stone fragment, casting the Enlargement Charm quickly and accurately, without wasting or using a bit of extra magic power, making the stone Draco was about to step on grow slightly larger.
This would become the stepping stone for Draco's defeat in the duel (literally a stepping stone).
Draco, whose balance was already unstable, fell forward, and the place he was falling towards...
Was exactly the death trap Hermione had carefully planned for Draco at the beginning of the match.
That ground full of shattered stones!
The moment he fell to the ground, Hermione's wand moved. She quickly and firmly waved out the correct gesture, correctly uttering the Transfiguration spell: "Funiculus Transformo!"
The stone fragments on the ground turned into ropes, just in time to be covered by Draco as he fell, and extended out.
Then came...
"Incarcerous!" Hermione's hand didn't stop, immediately following up with the Binding Spell. The ropes moved, flying up, and Draco was tightly bound by the ropes under him.
He was dumbfounded. Who am I? Where am I? Why am I tied up?
He couldn't move, and the wand in his hand couldn't be waved even a centimeter.
White light continued to shoot out from the tip of Hermione's wand, "Flipendo!" The Knockback Jinx hit Draco, who had lost his ability to move due to being bound by ropes, without any obstacle, pushing him towards the edge of the dueling platform.
Hermione delivered the final blow in her strategy, the Incendio spell she had been holding onto shot out, igniting the clothes of Draco who was tied up and knocked flying.
The flames ignited instantly, rapidly spreading all over Draco's body, scaring him into screaming. He wriggled on the ground, rolling around, trying to smother the flames on his body.
"End! Hermione Granger wins." Snape finally didn't let his godson be consumed alive by the flames. He very timely cast Aguamenti, and a clear, cool jet of water extinguished the flames on Draco's body.
Lying on the ground questioning his life, Draco didn't move at all. He was in a sorry state. He had lost, lost thoroughly, and it was a crushing defeat.
I finally got to duel once, and you made me lose so—— thoroughly.
Damn it!
And I only cast one hex throughout! It didn't even hit! Huh??
I can't accept this!!
The victorious little girl didn't care what he thought. She proudly walked towards Glen, seeking praise.
The latter understood and gently applauded, "Very clever calculation, and the timing and proficiency of spell casting were also impressive. Well done, Hermione."
The little girl was even happier after hearing this, proudly lifting her chin even higher, like a proud little swan.
Snape also looked at the little girl admiringly. For her to cast these spells so quickly and accurately in her first year was already quite remarkable. Her precise calculations, her approach to utilizing the environment, and her series of traps that linked together were even more eye-opening.
The only flaw was that this little girl had actually been sorted into Gryffindor. How vexing.
The little girl haughtily came to Draco's side and cast a Cleaning Charm on him.
"Now you know, don't you? Your so-called blood supremacy is wrong! Personal strength and knowledge are what's most important!" She delivered her victory declaration. She had wanted to say this for so long!
Lying on the ground, Draco couldn't refute Hermione's statement at this moment. He felt very uncomfortable, but the facts were as they were.
He, a descendant of the Malfoy family, a pureblood, had been defeated by a little girl of Muggle origin.
Thoroughly and completely defeated, without any excuse to be found.
In his heart, the theory of blood supremacy that he had accepted since childhood finally showed a crack under the double crushing of Glen and Hermione.
"Wuu..." Draco shed tears of unwillingness.
