Chapter 390: Chapter 392: The Abilities of the Death Note

"I've tested it on several people, and it worked," Light said, glancing at Ryuk beside him with a sigh. "But why? The Death Note clearly works on people in this world, yet it has no effect on Alexander."

"Perhaps it's because he's the creator?" Ryuk replied after a moment of silence. Even he felt a twinge of discomfort as he considered the fact that he, too, was a figure drawn by someone else.

"That could be part of the reason," Light mused. "But I've also tried it on others—like Orochimaru and Zereff—and it didn't work on them either."

Light had already considered this issue and had conducted his experiments, but the results left him disappointed.

What Light didn't understand was that the Death Note has its limitations. For instance, the holder of a Death Note cannot kill another Death Note holder by writing their name. This limitation stems from the inherent nature of the Death Note, a tool tied to the power of the Shinigami.

The Death Note's power works effortlessly on ordinary people, but when it comes to extraordinary beings, the rules change.

A car accident or a myocardial infarction may be plausible causes of death for a regular person, but for someone like Orochimaru? What kind of car could kill him? Could a lightning strike bring down Mikoto? Or would Zereff succumb to a simple heart attack?

It was impossible. The only logical outcome of Light's experiments was failure.

"So, Light," Ryuk said, his gaze fixed on Light, "are you planning to continue building your ideal world here? Or will you plead with Alexander to let you return to our world?"

Ryuk admired the young man before him, but he couldn't deny that Light's ambitions had ultimately fallen short.

"Go back?" Light chuckled softly. "Our world is so dull. If I wanted to, I could write the name L. Lawliet right now. But… don't you think this world is far more interesting than that tedious place?"

Light relied heavily on Ryuk's presence, yet he was keenly aware of his ultimate fate. Having seen the ending of his own story, he knew that Ryuk would one day be the one to end his life.

At this moment, the two stood in a silent standoff. Neither spoke their true thoughts aloud, but they both understood that an invisible, yet undeniable, wall existed between them.

Even so, they shared a common goal. Despite the unspoken tension, neither dared sever their partnership entirely. They knew they were the only ones they could depend on in this unfamiliar world.

"So, Light, are you planning to join the League of Villains?" Ryuk asked.

Though Light is the protagonist of 'Death Note', there's no denying that he is, at his core, a true villain. Therefore, the idea of him joining the League of Villains seemed natural.

However, Light thought differently.

To Light, there was no way he could associate with those so-called villains. At best, they were self-proclaimed leaders; at worst, they were nothing but losers.

Each of them might sound terrifying on paper, but in reality? Which one hadn't been utterly defeated by the heroes of their own worlds? If that's the case, why should he bother joining them?

With this thought, Light's resolve became firmer. He glanced at Ryuk, then casually tossed the apple in his hand toward the Shinigami.

"Ryuk, it's time to go. This place is no longer safe."

"So, no League of Villains?"

"They're just cannon fodder," Light replied dismissively. "If they want to cause chaos, let them do it on their own."

With that, Light and Ryuk left the room without a second thought. They had barely been gone a few moments when—BANG!

The door to the room burst open, kicked in by a group of figures storming in aggressively. With Alexander's help, these people had already pieced together their target: someone who could kill by simply writing names. And if their name ended up in the Death Note, they knew their fate was sealed.

But to their frustration, the room was completely empty except for a thin layer of dust. Light and Ryuk had already escaped.

Surveying the vacant room, Police Officer Megure's face tensed with unease.

"Quick! Notify Alexander! Tell him if he doesn't step in, we might not live to see tomorrow!"

To be targeted by a Shinigami—Officer Megure could now truly grasp the fear it inspired. Their only hope of preventing a massacre lay with Alexander.

Suddenly, as if summoned by Megure's frantic pleas, Alexander materialized in the center of the room. His calm demeanor contrasted sharply with the tense atmosphere.

Looking directly at Officer Megure, Alexander spoke firmly, "Don't worry. Leave it to me."
