Hunter X Hunter: Tombbound Power

Chapter 148: 148 One-Star Hunter

In a remote mountain forest, Kastro tore apart a lion-elephant with a single, precise move using his perfectly honed Tiger Bite Fist.

"Just wait, Hisoka. In a month, I'll use this technique to personally end your life!"

The following day, after a phone call with Bisky, Ronnel learned she had swapped his identity without warning. Not that he minded—he happily continued his world tour with Shizuku, collecting gems along the way.

To be honest, gem-hunting was probably the main objective, the rest was just a bonus.

Ronnel reflected that maybe traveling with Shizuku wasn't ideal after all. Their personalities didn't quite click. After discussing their next steps along Bisky's planned route, they agreed to meet at Heavens Arena.

As for when—well, Bisky's words were frustratingly vague:

"It could take a couple of months... or maybe half a year."

Ronnel had no choice but to nod, only for his cheeky master to hang up on him before he could even mention he had secured the Ice Pearl.

With a sigh, he pocketed his phone and wandered into an internet café. Using the privileges granted by his Hunter's License, he searched for details about cemeteries around the world—especially the more dangerous ones, off-limits to outsiders.

After reviewing the gathered information, he set off to begin his next adventure.

In the Hunter world, ancient ruins and forgotten cemeteries reveal glimpses of lost knowledge, offering tantalizing rewards to those who dare explore them. Mining such relics is invaluable to the Six Continents and the V5, and the Hunter Association strongly encourages both their exploration and preservation.

Ruins Hunter, in particular, thrive on the thrill of discovery, sharing it with companions and basking in the joy of the treasures they uncover. As a result, Ruins Hunter are as popular as Bounty Hunters, standing among the most coveted career paths in the Hunter Association.

Even Ging Freecss, Gon's elusive father, is a celebrated two-star Ruins Hunter. Recognized as one of the "World's Top Five Nen Users" by Chairman Netero.

Ronnel, however, hadn't yet chosen a Hunter specialization after earning his license. That didn't stop Bisky from taking matters into her own hands: she applied for the Ruins Hunter classification on his behalf.

Exploring and identifying relics involves a unique set of skills. Even cemeteries like the Cruz Cemetery, a leftover from the Second World War, can qualify as relics. The Cemetery, with its preserved historical artifacts and hints of ancient conflicts, holds great significance to archaeologists and historians alike.

But the Cruz Cemetery was no ordinary site—it teemed with death and resentment so powerful that even seasoned scholars hesitated to enter. However, when Ronnel ventured inside, he resolved the problem almost effortlessly. The once-oppressive miasma of death lifted, leaving the cemetery safe for further exploration.

Bisky wasted no time reporting the feat to the Hunter Association, securing Ronnel's promotion to a one-star Hunter. Even the Association's top brass were impressed by the young Hunter's achievement.

"Eliminating death energy and resentment?" Netero murmured as he stroked his pointed beard, reading the report.

"That's an impressive level of Nen mastery."

"Send this report to the V5," Netero ordered. "Though I imagine they've already heard the news."

"Understood, Chairman." The bean-faced secretary nodded. He recalled overhearing Saccho earlier that morning, muttering excitedly as he made plans to investigate the Mimbo Republic. Recent discoveries there had sparked diplomatic friction with nearby nations, drawing the V5's attention.

(T/N: Saccho Kobayakawa is a Double-Star Problem Hunter and a member of the Zodiacs with the codename "Horse")

But regardless of the V5's interest, Ronnel's accomplishment was a victory for the Hunter Association. His ability to cleanse the Cruz Cemetery not only solved a centuries-old problem but also opened the way for further archaeological efforts. This success alone earned him the one-star title.

Climbing the ranks in the Hunter Association requires more than raw talent. To achieve one-star status, a Hunter must make a significant contribution to the world.

For two-star status, they must take on and train an apprentice, ensuring the Association gains fresh talent.

Three-star Hunters are a rarity, requiring both mentorship and world-changing achievements across multiple fields, leaving a mark in history.

In truth, Ronnel's feat at the Cruz Cemetery was impressive enough to enter the annals of history. The Hunter Association acted swiftly, and before he even reached his next destination, a brand-new one-star Hunter license was delivered to him.

Typically, Hunters are required to complete their promotion paperwork in person. But being Bisky's apprentice came with perks—she was well-connected and knew how to pull strings.

Ronnel's friendship with both Netero and Beans didn't hurt, either. Having those kinds of connections definitely felt like having a VIP backstage pass.

Why not enjoy the perks, especially when they brought power, fame, and recognition?

With his new license in hand, Ronnel set off toward the next graveyard, ready for whatever adventure awaited him.

Energy of the Undead was the second Nen ability Ronnel developed, and it held immense potential for growth. Its strength lay not just in its toxicity but in its ability to corrupt and spread. Unlike ordinary poisons, the venom from this ability infected everything it touched, contaminating environments and creatures alike.

As Ronnel honed this ability, he knew he was just beginning to uncover its true potential.
