HunterxHunter: I Became Stronger After Death

Chapter 73: The Scarlet Eyes

The Scarlet Eyes—

They are the unique eyes of the Kurta Clan, renowned in the world of collectors as one of the Seven Most Beautiful Colors in the World.

Because of this, the Kurta Clan lived reclusively, hidden away in a remote location.

Tragically, the Phantom Troupe discovered their village and slaughtered everyone.

The entire Kurta Clan was wiped out, except for Kurapika, who had been granted permission to leave the village at the time and thus escaped the massacre.

News of the Kurta Clan's genocide was broadcast worldwide.

Some reports, especially those detailing the cruel murders of children, shocked audiences across the globe.

People were horrified by the perpetrators' brutality.

Under normal circumstances, the eyes of the Kurta Clan were like those of ordinary humans. They only turned scarlet when the individual experienced strong emotions.

In a state of extreme anger, the scarlet color became even more vibrant—a breathtaking and radiant red.

At that moment, if the head of a Kurta clansman was severed, the stunning red color could be permanently preserved.

For this reason, the Phantom Troupe, during their massacre, would deliberately provoke the Kurta Clan to anger. To do this, they inflicted unspeakable torment on the outsiders who had married into the clan, including their children...

After annihilating the village, the Phantom Troupe left a message pointing to Meteor City:

"We reject nothing, so do not take from us—not even a shred."

This act was a deliberate attempt to instill fear of Meteor City into the world.

Targeting the reclusive Kurta Clan also seemed to send a message: No matter how well you hide, we will find you.

However, Moro speculated that the Phantom Troupe's actions against the Kurta Clan weren't solely about spreading fear.

Given that the Scarlet Eyes were one of the Seven Most Beautiful Colors, they likely had the potential to enhance Chrollo's Skill Hunter ability.

Thus, the operation against the Kurta Clan was likely Chrollo's scheme to kill two birds with one stone.

Today, Scarlet Eyes have become a rare and priceless commodity, with their value skyrocketing in the collector's market.

Moro hadn't expected to find a pair here.

The presence of Scarlet Eyes was so striking that it would have been impossible for Moro to miss them.

On the same shelf were other eyes, including brilliant blue and vibrant green ones...

However, compared to the Scarlet Eyes, these lacked the crystalline glow that made them so remarkable.

"Is that...?"

Sambika pushed the man in the hazmat suit further into the room and noticed the striking red eyes amidst the preserved organs and body parts.

"Scarlet Eyes," Moro explained calmly. "One of the Seven Most Beautiful Colors in the World. To some organ collectors, they're an extremely valuable treasure."

As he spoke, Moro removed the glass container holding the Scarlet Eyes from the shelf.

For a moment, Kurapika's image flashed through his mind.

Where is the Kurta Clan's lone survivor now? What is he doing?

"Oh," Sambika muttered.

As a medical professional, Sambika was well-versed in human anatomy and organ preservation. However, her focus was solely on the scientific value of organs, not their monetary or collector's worth.

Holding the glass container in one hand, Moro said plainly, "Let's keep moving."

They didn't linger in the room for long and soon followed the orderly path of the crypt, arriving at the burial chamber where the coffin was kept.

Inside this chamber—connected by two straight corridors—stood more than twenty people clad in hazmat suits.

Moro scanned the group with a single glance.

According to the captured researcher, the virus research team alone had over fifty members.

Clearly, the numbers didn't add up.

This meant that the remaining researchers were likely further down the other corridor, in the human experimentation area.

The sight of Moro and his group entering the chamber caused a range of reactions among the researchers present. Most appeared resigned, their faces—visible through the transparent face shields—filled with fear, despair, and anger.

One individual stood out for his calm demeanor.

He removed his hood, revealing a weathered face with dark, heavy eye circles.

This man was the Apothecary, the chief scientist in charge of the virus research project.

"You have no idea what you're doing," the Apothecary said coldly, unfazed by the gun in Moro's hand.

He raised an arm and pointed to the coffin sealed within a glass chamber, his voice hoarse but filled with zeal. "You're interfering with the birth of a monumental breakthrough..."

"Medical research is governed by the principle of do no harm," Sambika interrupted, her eyes blazing with anger.

She had already confirmed the use of human experimentation from the hazmat-clad captive. Now, she glared at the Apothecary. "What you've done violates international law and humanitarian ethics—"

"Virus Hunter Sambika Norton, is it?"

The Apothecary rudely waved off her words, a mocking smile curling his lips. "Spare me your naïve nonsense."

Sambika's eyes widened in disbelief, her anger threatening to boil over.

The Apothecary spread his arms, his eyes alight with a mad fervor. "Humanity's greatest advancements have always been built on sacrifice! You simply—"

Bang!

The sharp crack of a gunshot echoed through the chamber.

The Apothecary's speech came to an abrupt halt, his face frozen in a grotesque expression of disbelief.

A clean, red bullet hole marred the center of his forehead.

"Ugh..."

The fervor in his eyes dulled as he slumped to the ground, dead.

The remaining researchers recoiled, visibly trembling.

Lowering his pistol, Moro glanced at the stunned Sambika and remarked, "Didn't realize you enjoyed talking to people like that."

"I... I don't..." Sambika stammered, her lips parting beneath her mask as if to retort, but she couldn't find the words. Instead, she stared at Moro, utterly at a loss.

Moro didn't dwell on the matter. He pressed the barrel of his still-warm gun to the captive's chest and said calmly, "Pick the person here who knows the most about the 'OG Virus.'"

The captive trembled as he pointed at one of his colleagues.

Without hesitation, Moro executed the rest with a flurry of gunshots.

The cold efficiency of his actions left the captive pale and despairing.

Ignoring the man's reaction, Moro gestured for Sambika to begin her interrogation before heading deeper into the crypt.

The remaining researchers were holed up in various rooms deeper within the facility.

Using his En technique, Moro methodically located and executed each one.

Eventually, he reached the isolation chambers where individuals infected with the virus were being held.

These were the human test subjects used for experiments, arranged meticulously by age group.

The chambers housed infants, children, teenagers, adults, and even the elderly.

Moro paused for a moment, silently observing the tragic sight before turning and walking back to the coffin chamber.

By the time he returned, Sambika had opened the glass case and was examining the coffin.

"How's it looking?" Moro asked.

Sambika glanced at him, her brow furrowed. "The OG Virus... it's related to Post-Mortem Nen."

"Oh?" Moro's interest was piqued.
