HunterxHunter: I Became Stronger After Death

Chapter 78: Auction x Hiring an Assassin

Six months.

To Hisoka, this was nothing more than a period that would allow the "fruit" to become even sweeter.

He was willing to wait.

After all, toys were everywhere—he could always find substitutes to satisfy his desires in the meantime.

And so, Hisoka left.

He had arrived entangled and persistent, yet departed without hesitation.

Moro knew that in six months, Hisoka would return at his absolute limit of patience.

But that was fine. Six months was more than enough time for Moro to accomplish many things.

The Journey to Yorknew City

"This is the border of the Gugan Kingdom, close to the United Sahelta Republic. If I leave now, I should be able to make it to the Yorknew Auction on time."

As he walked toward Prit Town, Moro took out his phone to check flight schedules and calculate how long it would take to reach Yorknew City.

Soon, the search results popped up.

The earliest flight was at 7 AM. Barring any delays, he would arrive at Yorknew's Rinko Airport on the morning of September 7th.

"That gives me enough time… but I won't be able to register my auction items in advance. It all depends on whether the organizers are willing to bend the rules. Given the rarity of the Scarlet Eyes, they probably will."

Moro thought for a moment before booking his ticket.

The Yorknew Auction was an annual event, running from September 1st to September 10th, a ten-day span packed with thousands of auctions.

Most of these auctions were public, but a select few operated in the underground black market, organized by the Ten Dons.

The underground auctions featured illegal and highly rare items, including:

Contraband Stolen artifacts Exotic creatures Organ trade items, such as those from poachers and grave robbers

The auction catalog for these events was a book nearly half a meter thick. Every starting bid was in the billions.

For many elite collectors, the underground auction was the real highlight.

It was also an annual social event for the Mafia, where crime lords competed to impress the Ten Dons by spending extravagantly.

Though the final earnings of the underground auction were never disclosed, it was estimated that the total turnover—including both legal and illegal auctions—reached several trillion.

This was why Yorknew was known as the world's largest auction market.

If someone wanted to sell an item for the highest price possible, the Yorknew Auction was the best place to do it.

Moro knew he had enough time to get there, so he planned to sell his Scarlet Eyes and some of the valuable antiques stored in his bank vault in one go.

If things went smoothly—after deducting the 5% auction fee—he estimated he could earn at least 2 billion Jenny.

Aside from selling, he also intended to look for objects imbued with Nen before the auction ended.

"Even if they allow a last-minute registration, without some buzz, I won't get a good price… especially for something like the Scarlet Eyes. At the very least, I need to make sure that organ collectors know it's available."

As he boarded the airship to Yorknew, Moro considered his next steps.

Since the auction catalog had already been printed, he couldn't just add his item now. The organizers would need to publicize the Scarlet Eyes to draw in high-profile bidders before he arrived on the 7th.

With this in mind, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number from memory.

The person on the other end was Axel, a senior appraiser at the Napice Auction House.

Napice was the most prestigious auction house in Yorknew and only hosted auctions from September 6th to September 10th, making them the grand finale of the event.

In his previous life, before his death and rebirth, Moro had befriended Axel after spending a year in Yorknew City.

But in this timeline, they had not yet met.

Still, that wasn't a problem.

Axel was obsessed with untreated natural gemstones.

So, as long as Moro could promise him one, he would secure Axel's support.

In his past life, Moro had befriended Axel using an unheated emerald that he had pried from an antique clock.

Right now, that exact clock was still sitting in a small pawn shop on Yorknew's Lower Street, untouched.

Moro just needed to make a promise now and buy the clock later.

Simple.

He pressed the call button…

A Mafia War Begins

Meanwhile, in a luxurious mansion atop a mountain, the air was filled with screams of agony.

The mansion was enormous—its courtyard alone stretched over a kilometer from the main gate to the front door.

It was surrounded by 3-meter-high walls, equipped with state-of-the-art security, and patrolled by guards and trained hounds.

Even beyond the mansion, the forest was filled with spies, disguised as park rangers.

This fortress belonged to Norlan Gambino, the founder of the Menu Mafia.

Occasionally, his father, one of the Ten Dons, would stay here as well.

From deep inside the mansion came horrific shrieks of pain.

The guards, stationed at various corridors, listened without reaction.

They all knew—whenever this happened, it meant their young master was in a bad mood.

The screams continued for hours until the seventh victim finally fell silent.

The room grew still.

Water rushed as a pair of bloodstained hands scrubbed under the faucet.

The owner of those hands was Norlan Gambino.

Expressionless, he meticulously scraped away the flesh stuck under his nails.

Whenever he was in a bad mood, he had an overwhelming urge to rip people apart.

But afterward, he always hated the feeling of filthy, torn flesh beneath his nails.

"...I can mobilize Earthworm from the Shadow Beasts using my father's name. And..."

Norlan suddenly looked up, his cold gaze meeting his subordinate's reflection in the mirror.

"Tell Mosquito… I agree to his terms. But he needs to team up with Earthworm to handle this."

"Understood."

The subordinate bowed.

Norlan's eyelids drooped slightly. Then, after a moment, his voice darkened.

"Not enough."

The subordinate hesitated.

But Norlan turned, his icy glare making the man shudder.

"Go hire an assassin from the Zoldyck family. Any price."

His grip tightened, twisting his fingers into his palm.

The images of Hisoka and that masked intruder flashed through his mind.

The Menu Mafia's secret virus lab had been annihilated.

Norlan didn't care about financial losses. He didn't even care about the scientists who had died.

But he could not let this insult go unanswered.

He would rip apart anyone who dared cross him.
