Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Sheryls
As she walked down the street, Phantom's voice echoed in Qianlong's mind.
"My remaining energy is very low. I suggest entering hibernation to replenish it. Wake me when you need me."
"Okay," Qianlong replied.
Once he finished his response, Phantom's voice faded away.
Qianlong was not surprised by Phantom releasing Spore Coat; he had seen his mother use it when he was young. Although it was quite magical, he still did not understand the principle behind it. They said they would tell him when he grew up, but now that he was an adult, where were they? Thinking of this made Qianlong feel heavy-hearted. Forget it, he thought, I won't dwell on it.
Qianlong arrived at the elevator passage in Area E, where there was quite a line of people. He stood at the back of the queue.
After more than an hour, he returned to his small nest.
Feeling exhausted, Qianlong lay on his bed. He caught a whiff of himself and realized he hadn't bathed in a long time; he felt off all over.
With that thought, Qianlong stood up, planning to go to the bathhouse for a soak. Of course, there was no bathhouse in Area F; he needed to head to Area C. If he was extravagant enough, he could fill a tub himself.
Qianlong left his small nest and walked towards the passage to Area D.
At the entrance of the passage, there was still a long line. Qianlong looked at the crowd bustling for a living and couldn't help but smile; at least this moment was peaceful and full of life.
Inside the public bathhouse in Area C, after paying 500 Points, Qianlong entered a private room with a small five-square-meter pool.
He walked in, lay on the edge of the pool, and closed his eyes; the water temperature was just right.
Fortunately, there weren't many guests today, so he could enjoy a bath alone. Usually, there would be two or three people sharing a pool.
The used water would be recycled, filtered, and disinfected before being injected back into the pool.
After bathing, Qianlong walked out of the public bathhouse, feeling much lighter.
Walking down the street, he gazed at the luxurious storefronts lining both sides, filled with various brand-new items.
In a sense, Area C was a place for the upper class to live; it had begun to show some greenery.
Moreover, the population density had decreased to a comfortable level; basically, most people on the spaceship aspired to live in Area C.
Unfortunately, the cost of living here was also very high, and not everyone qualified to live here; one needed to obtain C-Level residency permission.
As Qianlong walked down the street, he watched the passersby chatting and laughing.
"Where are you going to play after school today?"
"High Paradise? Or are we going to see the latest release, Final Destroyer 3?"
In a daze, he felt a bit of an illusion, as if he were in a bustling city.
"It's really a headache; I flunked the test again. I'm definitely going to get beaten when I go back."
"Who told you not to study properly?"
"What's so good about studying? I want to join the Guardian."
"If your mom hears that, she'll definitely beat you until you can't stand up."
A few young men, with their arms around each other's shoulders, walked past Qianlong, looking very troubled.
They were about the same age as Qianlong.
In that moment, Qianlong felt somewhat disconnected from his peers.
Continuing to walk forward, he stopped at a store selling various new electronic devices.
Qianlong walked inside.
"Welcome! How can I help you?" A woman with a pleasant demeanor approached him.
"I'd like to buy a wristband."
"We sell various models of wristbands, from basic to limited editions. Of course, the prices vary depending on your needs."
"I just need something that meets daily requirements," Qianlong replied.
"Please follow me." The woman led Qianlong to a counter.
She took out a black wristband.
"This is the Dimwalker Series classic model v7. Both its performance and design are top-notch for its time, and it's very affordable at just 3000 Points."
Qianlong nodded and said, "Okay, I'll buy it."
The woman's smile grew even brighter as she politely said, "I'll wrap it up for you; please wait a moment."
"No need, I'll just use it directly."
"Alright."
"Where do I pay?"
"Please follow me."
Qianlong followed the woman to the counter, where he made the payment.
"Is this your first time using a wristband?" the woman asked with a smile.
"Yes."
"If you're not in a hurry, I can introduce its functions and how to use it."
"Thank you very much." Qianlong did not refuse.
"This is the power switch; you only need to activate it this way the first time. After that, you can use voice commands. Next is binding your identity; this is unique..."
As Qianlong focused on listening to the woman's introduction, a soft song began to play in the store.
Gray dreams flow at your fingertips
The warmth you bring, where will it go?
To places words cannot convey
To distances that cannot be reached
In the long dark night
Our bond
I would use my tears
To awaken your memories...
"Sir? Sir?"
Qianlong heard the call and came back to his senses, apologizing profusely.
"Sorry."
"It's alright. Did you suddenly remember something?"
"No, I just got a bit lost in the song," Qianlong replied.
"You're talking about Miss Sheryls. I also really like her songs. In fact, most people on the Hyberian enjoy her music."
"Thank you." Qianlong stood up.
"Okay, take care."
With his hands in his pockets, Qianlong walked out.
For a moment, he quite liked Area C; it was closer to the ideal living area, though it was just an ideal.
Although it was for survival, Qianlong did not want to become someone who merely existed to survive. He hoped for a better life in the future, which should count as a reason to save money.
Qianlong walked towards the passage; he needed to leave here and return to his small nest.
In the deep night, Qianlong lay on his narrow metal bed, lost in thought.
He couldn't quite adjust his state; he felt no drowsiness at all.
Of course, that wasn't the most important thing, because as soon as he closed his eyes, memories from the past began to surface.
Very clearly, he couldn't help but open his eyes again.
Qianlong raised his hand and tapped the wristband, searching for Sheryls' songs.
The melodious voice echoed in the small room.
Qianlong slowly closed his eyes.
Listening to the melodious and graceful song, he gradually fell into a deep sleep.
Knock, knock, a dull knocking sound.
Qianlong slowly opened his eyes; today's sunlight seemed a bit glaring.
He sat up slowly, and he was quite familiar with the knocking sound.
A few seconds later, the door opened.
Kromi, looking frustrated, said, "Why are you still slee
ping? What time is it?"
Qianlong rubbed his eyes in a daze; he had slept very soundly yesterday, and his head still felt heavy.
"I'm on vacation now."
