I Am Honkai

Chapter 21: Prison Camp

On the road, Selene witnessed a world that had completely descended into chaos and disorder.

Finally, after two days and nights, the surrounding vegetation grew denser, and seeing a railway track, followed by more familiar landmarks, let Selene know that the prison was now close at hand.

Gradually, a concrete building complex surrounded by barbed wire came into view.

They turned off the engine and the three of them got out of the car.

Looking at the familiar prison, Merle said with a complicated expression, "We're here."

The prison was large, with the yard enclosed by iron fencing about the size of a football field. Each area had iron gates blocking entry. Besides the main prison building, there were several watchtowers, and the buildings were primarily made of reinforced concrete.

"This is a great place, but now it's ours," Merle said excitedly.

"Don't get too excited just yet; there are plenty of zombies in the prison," Daryl pointed out.

The zombies wandering inside the wire fence proved the prison had been overrun, and there should be plenty of zombies inside. However, since it's a prison, each section of the prison building is isolated from the others, so the zombies can't all gather in one place.

"Merle, remember to use a silencer when using guns. Let's clear out one section first; this will be our camp from now on."

"Understood, boss."

"First, let's deal with the zombies in the yard."

The zombies in The Walking Dead are quite weak, among the lowest tier of zombies. They move slowly, have brittle bones, and besides winning by numbers, Selene couldn't understand how the military could be defeated by them; maybe it was the world's will (the writer's will).

All three of them armed themselves: Daryl with his crossbow, while Merle and Selene each had a cold weapon in one hand and a silenced submachine gun in the other. Selene had no shortage of weapons or supplies, and could support up to a hundred more people if needed.

"Let's get started." The three quickly approached the prison fence, where a few scattered zombies loitered outside, but they posed no obstacle.

Thwack! Thwack!

Merle took the lead, picking off the zombies within sight one by one before quickly reaching the breach in the fence. The silencer muffled the sound enough that single shots wouldn't alert the horde.

After entering the prison yard, the three split up: Selene repaired the breach in the fence, Merle cleared out zombies, and Daryl closed the iron gates.

With a crisp "click," the gates closed, and Selene used wire to repair the fence. With no new zombies entering, the yard was quickly cleared.

Without taking a break, they checked their gear and continued. Since Merle and Daryl had undergone physical enhancements, the exertion was minor for them.

Soon, the trio cleared the entire prison yard, sealing all gaps in the fence, and then moved to infiltrate the interior.

After dispatching a few zombies in riot gear, Selene headed straight to the guard's office. There she easily found the cell block keys and the prison map.

Laying the map on the table, she saw the prison was single-story and divided into sections A, B, and C. The guard's office was adjacent to section C, which included the medical room, warden's office, and guard dormitories. Section C was an administrative area, without prisoners, and relatively safe.

Sections A and B, however, were cell blocks, housing inmates, so they had far more zombies than section C. "Let's clear section C first; same strategy—close the doors and then attack. Once we secure the medical room and the warden's office to set up camp, we can clear the other sections."

"Understood!" The Dixon brothers answered, turning to close the gates connecting the sections.

Sizzle...

"Handguns, flashlights, batons… hmm?" In the guard's office gathering supplies, Selene noticed the Great Sage was back online.

After a period of dormancy, the world's repulsion faded, and with the Great Sage back, Selene didn't bother with small talk and directly asked it to bring up the data panel. (From now on, she considered the Great Sage as a kind of encyclopedia to consult.)

World: The Walking Dead

Main Quest: Connect to the world's core and trigger the apocalypse.

Full Recovery Time: 18 days

The new panel was straightforward. Over the years, Selene realized the Great Sage resembled the one from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime because she subconsciously imagined it that way, thus it materialized in that form.

The way it exists depends entirely on what Selene needs it to be.

However, Selene didn't have time for a back-and-forth with it now, so she had it transform into something resembling a Main God Space's interface, showing a simple table format.

With the Great Sage's awakening, it was good news for Selene. It meant her spatial ability had fully recovered, and although she could previously access supplies, there were volume restrictions, which prevented her from bringing out her big guns. Now she finally could!

Military Robots.

Although they weren't much needed anymore since she had regained her powers, having them around wouldn't hurt, and she could test their performance.

With a wave of her hand, a purple glow from the portal filled the guard's office with more than a dozen military robots, all black.

Height: 2.32 meters

Weight: 191 kilograms

Running Speed: 28-32 km/h

Arm Strength: Single-arm 62 kg

Drive: Servo indirect variable speed device, automatic speed reduction adjustment drive

Main Control System: Military Robots Model 1 Main Control System, Wireless Transmission Device

Power Supply: Two sets of 30V rechargeable miniature Honkai Energy Reactors

Equipment: SIG SG-551 automatic rifle, grenades, and grenade launcher

With these robots, Selene felt that even without superpowers, she could navigate the apocalypse unchallenged.

"Boss, what are you doing... ah! What's all this?" Merle arrived, having finished his tasks a few minutes earlier. Hearing noise in the office, he rushed over.

Seeing the cluster of robots, Merle was startled but then calmed when he spotted Selene, approaching cautiously, "Boss, what are these things?"

"Military robots," Selene replied.

"No more waiting; take them and continue clearing section C."

Seeing Selene not explaining further, Merle refrained from asking more. Though bold, he understood the importance of not prying where he shouldn't. Leaving two robots to guard the area, he resumed clearing the zombies, "Got it!"

After retrieving a briefcase-like data collection device from her spatial storage, Selene sat aside, remotely monitoring Merle's operation through the military robots' perspective.

Following the original plan to close the doors and then attack, but with the aid of numerous robots, section C was cleared within minutes, most of the time spent just moving around.

With this efficiency, Selene revised the plan, deciding to clear the entire prison in one sweep. She didn't want sections B and A's zombies lingering overnight.

When Merle and Daryl returned, Selene let them rest briefly before leading them into section B, "Let's clean out sections B and C today. Stay alert; don't let your guard down."

Sections B and C indeed had many zombies, and they even encountered a horde in section B. But with the military robots' powerful firepower, the horde was swiftly neutralized.

In less than half an hour, the zombies in section A were also wiped out by the robots.

During the cleanup of section A, Daryl discovered a locked room. The door was handcuffed shut, and using thermal imaging, he found survivors inside, "Boss, found survivors!"

Since the rural village incident, Daryl had grown wary of unknown human survivors, full of mistrust.

"The cafeteria?"

Upon hearing this, Selene headed to Daryl's location, having already guessed that the locked room contained the five prisoners hiding there in the original storyline.

Selene ordered a robot to kick open the door, which flew off its hinges with a thud. Shouts erupted from inside, "Who are you! You're asking for…"

A burly white man with a handgun jumped out, wearing a fierce expression. Before he could finish his threat, a robot tackled him, pinning him to the ground.

Click... clack!

Dozens of guns pointed at the remaining four inside, who immediately surrendered, "Don't shoot! We give up!"

"Daryl, check the warden's office for their records. If they're scum, get rid of them."

Daryl moved quickly and soon returned with the prisoners' records.

The leader was a gang member involved in loan sharking, murder, and drug dealing. He was awaiting execution but escaped due to the outbreak.

The other four had minor offenses, ranging from fraud to theft.

"Boss, what should we do?" Merle, having guessed the situation from the records, still asked.

Selene glanced indifferently at the gang leader on the ground, "Kill him. As for the others, observe them for now and have them start moving the bodies."

Selene's order to kill didn't faze Merle. Firstly, the man deserved it, and secondly, in these times, killing to survive was normal.

Once the group left, Selene teleported into the warden's office to set up her base in this world.

Clearing the prison was a massive task, but with the four survivors cooperating and refraining from trouble, manpower was replenished, speeding up the cleanup process.

...

Half a month later, the camp's bodies were fully cleared, gaps in the surrounding wire fences patched, and all key points were guarded by military robots, giving the entire prison a new look.
