Chapter 27: Sebastian
As the limousine left the 23rd District Aviation Center, the scenery within Academy City came into view for Sebastian.
"Sebas, you don't mind that I brought you from Europe to Japan, do you?" In the car, Selene asked with a smile, her eyes gleaming with joy as she looked at the tall figure beside her with a hint of excitement.
What appeared before her was an old man in a traditional butler's uniform, standing over 190 cm tall, with hair completely white, including his mustache. Although he appeared aged, the old man stood with his back straight, like a tall pine. His deep face had pronounced wrinkles, making him look kind and amiable, while his sharp eyes resembled those of a hawk spotting prey.
His name was Sebas, Selene's private butler from her time in Austria, responsible for attending to her daily needs. Selene shared quite a good relationship with him.
In this world, aside from Katie, Sebas was the person Selene spent the most time with. In Sebas's own words, he had watched Selene grow up, and because he never started a family, he considered Selene as his own child.
This was also why Selene thought of him; trust and capability were never in question.
As for why she didn't bring Sebas initially, well, she was here to study, not to play, and her parents wouldn't allow her to bring Sebas along.
However, now Selene had an excuse; she told her family that she needed someone to manage her business, and naturally, she brought Sebas over.
"No, it is my honor to serve you, Miss." Sebas bowed to Selene.
...
Seventh District.
As a district mainly inhabited by high school and junior high school students, residential areas were naturally extremely valuable.
The residential area could be roughly divided into three major categories, and Selene was now entering one of them, the largest of which was the villa area.
Since Selene's original dormitory was in the Garden of Learning, within the girls' school area, it was not suitable for Sebas to stay there, so she bought a palatial-style villa as her residence.
After all, she now had plenty of money, and since arriving in Academy City, she never had to worry about finances again.
Selene and Sebas strolled along the central avenue of the villa.
This was a palace complex in the Baroque style.
The high ceilings forced people to look up, with luxurious chandeliers hanging at regular intervals, casting a warm golden glow.
The wide roads were paved with polished floors that reflected the light from the chandeliers like embedded stars, shining brightly.
In a world that could be described as splendid, the crisp footsteps of Selene sounded, followed by the heavy footsteps accompanying them. After passing through a wide corridor and a few corners, a five-meter-high gate suddenly appeared in sight.
In front of the palace's main gate, one could feel the majestic atmosphere of the palace. The palace door could be described as resplendent, with deep black wooden doors exquisitely carved and inlaid with gold and silver. Servants stood on either side.
Upon seeing Selene approach, the waiting servants immediately opened the central gate, revealing luxurious furniture inside that was deeply captivating.
Sitting on the luxurious sofa in the living room, stretching lazily, "Sebas, are you satisfied with the new home?"
"How could I not be satisfied? But Miss, this posture is not ladylike. If the madam knew, she would..."
"Alright, alright, it's not like Mama Katie knows, and since this is my home, I can relax a bit." Hearing Sebas mention Katie, Selene quickly interrupted.
Back then, Katie wanted to educate her into a textbook-perfect lady. Thinking back to that time was really unbearable for Selene.
"That won't do; before I came, the madam specifically instructed me to check your manners."
"Ah, Sebas, you wouldn't report me, would you? Mama Katie is really a headache."
"You shouldn't speak ill of the madam, you know. Don't worry, I won't tell, just don't do it again." Sebas spoke with a smile, filled with doting affection.
After chatting for a while about family matters, Selene suddenly brought up a new topic.
"Sebas, if I asked you to manage the assets, would you?"
Selene's words moved Sebas.
Indeed, besides being a private butler, he also had extensive management experience.
If Selene needed him to manage her business, he could put his skills to good use.
Thinking of this, Sebas pondered and asked, "What do you need me to do?"
"Board member's assistant." Selene took a sip of the tea handed over by a servant.
"I took over Thomas Platinaburg's seat and became a board member of the Board of Directors, and I've already taken over his assets. I need someone trustworthy to manage it."
"That's also why I brought you all the way from Europe. Would you be willing?" Selene looked at Sebas with anticipation.
Sebas thought for a moment. Although he wasn't sure what Selene's business was, it was her request, and he couldn't refuse nor had a reason to.
As Selene's private butler, Sebas was well aware of her character flaws. No matter how graceful and elegant she appeared in front of others, her inherent pride and indifference toward others couldn't be concealed.
In Sebas's eyes, Selene was prone to arrogance, though she would realize and reflect on it. But for some reason, as if engraved in her DNA, she would repeatedly make the same mistakes.
Because of this, Sebas feared that Selene might suffer when dealing with other board members. Moreover, even if Selene hired a professional manager through a headhunting company, those people's loyalty was still a concern.
Considering this, Sebas found no reason to refuse, either emotionally or logically. He raised his head and solemnly said, "No problem!"
"Great, great!" Seeing Sebas agree, Selene nodded enthusiastically.
Looking at Selene's excited appearance, Sebas became more certain of the correctness of his choice. He needed to manage her assets well.
...
In any case, the person in charge of Selene's related assets was thus settled.
The next morning, Sebas got into work mode, heading to the First District to integrate and sort out the assets left by Thomas Platinaburg.
By the end of the day, the entire Academy City's upper echelons and dark side had learned that Selene had brought her old butler to Academy City.
In the evening, Sebas reported to her, and after sorting, the major assets were:
Law firms, investment banks, insurance companies, real estate, entertainment clubs, hotel chains, related research institutes, etc.
It was evident that Thomas Platinaburg's assets were primarily focused on financial investments, with less emphasis on manufacturing, which Selene valued. But on reflection, it made sense; he started in the investment field, so that was his forte.
But even small profits add up, and Selene planned to merge the technological industries, manufacturing industries, and research institutes into Destiny Research Institute, leaving the financial and entertainment industries to Sebas.
Thus, the major industries under Selene's control were basically assigned to different people: Sebas in charge of the financial sector, Shuji Matsuzaki overseeing research and technology industries, and Aoki Yoichi in charge of the security department (equivalent to the dark side in Academy City).
As for Selene, she could finally act as a hands-off boss, focusing on being a deterrent with her strength.
She finally had ample time to enhance her abilities.
