Chapter 236: Chapter 233: I Don’t Know, and I Dare Not Ask
"Of course."
Miwa Sato smiled and remarked, "It seems like you, Fujino, would make a great police officer in the future."
"A police officer? Nah, I'll pass."
Fujino chuckled lightly. "Being a detective is more lucrative."
If he really wanted to, he could become a police officer.
But… being a cop doesn't pay as much as being a detective.
Earning a measly government salary for an entire year wouldn't even cover his lottery spending.
Besides, becoming a police officer requires graduating college first.
And in this detective manga universe… *emmm*...
Who knows if he'll even survive to graduate high school.
Miwa Sato, hearing this, fell into a contemplative silence.
In a flash, her mind conjured a vivid scene: *A young boy with dreams of becoming a police officer slowly crushed by reality, eventually abandoning his aspirations to walk the path of a detective.*
---
Before long, the halftime break was approaching.
After some quick preparation, the operation began.
Inspector Megure led a team to ambush and apprehend the criminals scheduled to make a deal at Exit 18.
Meanwhile, Fujino and Miwa Sato, in disguise, headed to confront another criminal near Camera Position 13 around the stadium.
---
### Outside the Stadium: Between the Bleachers and the Rubber Perimeter
"Fujino, whatever you do, don't recklessly charge in!"
Wearing a school uniform, Miwa Sato walked beside Fujino, whispering her instructions, "During the operation, make sure you stay behind me."
Fujino glanced at Miwa Sato's uniform and subtly nodded.
He couldn't help but wonder how Miwa Sato managed to pull this off.
How did she go from a woman approaching thirty to looking like a young high school girl?
*I don't know, and I dare not ask.*
But since Miwa Sato could pull it off, wouldn't the "Iron Fist Maiden" be able to do the same?
Probably.
*Hopefully.*
Looking at Fujino's distracted expression, Miwa Sato sighed softly.
*He probably didn't even listen, did he?*
It seemed the success of this mission would fall entirely on her shoulders.
---
The pair slowly approached their target, a cameraman named Hiruta, near Camera Position 13.
Hiruta soon noticed two people closing in behind him.
He glanced back at Fujino and Miwa Sato.
"Darling~!"
Miwa Sato instantly wrapped her arms around Fujino's arm. "See? I told you this spot has the best view!"
Fujino's scalp tingled with discomfort.
Pretending to be intimate with a nearly 30-year-old woman acting like a schoolgirl… it felt wrong on so many levels.
But discomfort aside, for the sake of the plan, he nodded and smiled lightly. "Hmm, as expected of you."
Hiruta was dumbfounded by the scene.
*Damn it, just a couple of lovebirds.*
"So they came here just for a better view, huh?"
*Do they not realize how dangerous it is to stand here? A stray soccer ball could kill them!*
Clicking his tongue in irritation, Hiruta turned back to the camera, resuming his task of observing the field. At the same time, he silently vowed:
*When the time comes, I'll deal with these two rule-breaking lovebirds first.*
If they dared to play these little games in front of him, he'd make sure they paid the price.
Hiruta didn't take the two "high school students" seriously at all.
He was confident in his plan. He believed no one would expect that there were actually *two criminals* involved in this operation.
Nor would anyone guess that *he*, the cameraman, was the one stationed here as the lookout.
---
"Did it work?"
Miwa Sato breathed a small sigh of relief as she noticed Hiruta turning his focus back to the camera.
Although the plan was fairly solid, she had been worried about whether her disguise as a high school girl was convincing enough.
But now it seemed like her concerns were unnecessary.
*Yep, I'm still young.*
---
"Um… can you let go now?"
Fujino, feeling his arm go numb, whispered a reminder.
"Oh…"
Satou Miwako let go of Fujino's arm and smiled apologetically, "Sorry about that. Things happened so suddenly, so I might've used a bit too much force."
"...…"
Fujino was speechless.
A bit too much force?
Yeah, right. His arm now had a red mark running down half of it...
Well, that's Satou the fearless for you.
"Satou, the suspect has surfaced. Get ready to move!"
Just then, a voice came through Satou Miwako's earpiece, hidden beneath her wig.
Hearing this, she turned to look at Fujino.
Fujino nodded knowingly and then shifted his gaze to Hiruta, who stood not too far away.
…
A few moments later, Inspector Megure's team launched their operation.
Even without Satou Miwako joining in, a few burly officers were able to apprehend another suspect without causing any serious injuries.
After all, not everyone was as naturally fierce as Satou Miwako.
Under normal circumstances, police officers are relatively "gentle" when subduing suspects.
At the very least, no one ends up needing hospitalization.
When Hiruta learned that his accomplice had been captured, he was visibly displeased.
Using a miniature microphone, he began threatening the police to release his partner.
Meanwhile, Fujino received confirmation of the successful arrest.
Upon hearing the news, Satou Miwako was ready to charge forward and take action herself.
But Fujino immediately stepped in and interrupted her.
She could only watch as Fujino, moving with lightning speed, overtook her.
He dashed forward, wrapped his arms around Hiruta's waist, and executed a flawless suplex.
Not stopping there, Fujino grabbed Hiruta's arm, swung him around, and slammed him heavily onto the ground.
The entire process was smooth and seamless.
Even Satou Miwako couldn't help but feel a little outclassed.
After such a series of impacts, it was only natural that Hiruta was left unconscious.
In fact, he had already fainted after the first suplex.
But that didn't stop Fujino from continuing his moves.
When it came to dealing with armed criminals, Fujino's philosophy was simple: as long as they're not dead, keep going. Holding back, in his eyes, was an insult to the art of combat.
Adhering to this mindset, Fujino restrained Hiruta, pressing a knee against the back of his neck. Using a grappling pose straight out of an American superhero playbook, he firmly pinned him to the ground.
Then, without breaking a sweat, he twisted Hiruta's limp arms behind his back and called out to Satou Miwako, "Officer Satou, the gun is in his inner pocket."
"The inner pocket?"
Upon hearing this, Satou Miwako quickly stepped forward and retrieved a handgun from Hiruta's inner jacket pocket.
"A Beretta 92F."
Satou Miwako swiftly engaged the safety, secured the gun, and then pulled a pair of shiny silver handcuffs from a pocket hidden in her skirt, snapping them onto Hiruta's wrists.
After finishing her work, she glanced at Fujino with a slightly reproachful expression. "Fujino-kun, didn't I just tell you to stay behind me?"
"I just figured it made more sense for me to go ahead," Fujino replied as he stood up, brushing the dust off his clothes. "After all, if someone in a bulletproof vest like me gets shot, I can still survive. But if an unprotected Officer Satou gets hit, you could be gravely injured—or worse."
He couldn't yet be certain of Hiruta's combat prowess.
With Satou Miwako involved, he had to consider whether she could subdue Hiruta in one move.
If she couldn't and Hiruta used the gun, Satou Miwako would be in danger.
Taking everything into account, it was much safer for him to act first.
