Chapter 193: Chapter 187
"Stop."
A clear, commanding voice echoed through the street. The soldiers immediately stiffened, snapping into formation without hesitation.
Xiao froze, his eyes widening in shock. "Lord Morax?" he murmured, his voice tinged with surprise and recognition. Yet his words were ignored as a figure appeared atop a nearby building, casting a piercing gaze toward Freya and Ray.
The figure's eyes narrowed, and a formidable aura burst forth, saturating the air with oppressive weight. The atmosphere thickened like viscous glue, making even the slightest movement painfully sluggish.
Freya tensed, sensing danger, and instinctively prepared to flee. But Ray placed a reassuring paw on her face. "It's fine," he said calmly, his voice cutting through her alarm. Freya exhaled, her nerves settling.
Without breaking eye contact with Morax, Ray leaped gracefully from Freya's shoulder, landing effortlessly on the street below.
"Descender," Morax muttered, his voice carrying just enough weight for Ray to hear. His expression hardened, eyes gleaming with hostility. "Outer God. What is your purpose for coming here?"
Ray's lips curled into a confident grin. "As expected of the great Morax Lapis, Lord of Geo. Nothing escapes your sight," he praised, nodding with genuine approval.
Ray knew that in the future, Morax — or Zhongli, as he would later be known — was revered as the most knowledgeable and ancient amongst the Archons. Many attributed his wisdom to his age, having existed since before the Archon War. But now that Ray stood before him, it was clear this ancient God harbored even more secrets than anyone realized.
"As for my purpose?" Ray's grin widened. "Let's just say I have an irresistible deal — or should I call it a contract — for you."
Morax scoffed, lifting his right hand as golden Geo energy swirled and coalesced into a gleaming spear. "Hmph. You speak as if I would entertain your proposal instead of killing you where you stand, Outer God."
The tension was palpable, like an ancient mountain weighing heavily on the street. Freya stood rigid, her body taut with nerves. Ray, however, remained utterly composed, his smirk only growing as he met Morax's glare.
"Sure, you could try." Ray's tone was nonchalant. "But you'd lose a valuable opportunity to end your conflict with the sea-dwelling Gods."
Morax's eyes flickered with momentary hesitation.
Ray pressed on, his voice measured. "Especially when Guili is plagued by the presence of evil gods from the East. Surely someone as wise as you knows how troublesome it is to fight on two fronts."
A furrow formed on Morax's brow, his earlier confidence wavering.
"Is that a threat, Outer God?" Morax demanded.
"Threat? Hardly." Ray shrugged lazily. "Call it advice. What you do with it is entirely up to you."
He stretched, his body radiating a casual menace. His gaze sharpened like a blade. "But let me make one thing clear. If I had truly come with malicious intent, do you think you could stop me?" His smile dropped.
A sudden, deafening crack echoed through the street. The earth trembled as boundless darkness surged from Ray's shadow, consuming the world in an endless abyss that devoured both land and sky. The oppressive void writhed around them like a living entity.
Ray stood at its epicenter in his human form, his devilish smile unwavering as he addressed Morax. "I might be a weak, fallen god now. But even a fallen god was once an Outer God — one with the power to destroy this entire world with a single thought. As they say, even a starving camel is larger than a horse."
His tone shifted back to casual indifference. "Anyway, I'll return in a few days. I hope you make the right decision by then."
With those parting words, Ray and Freya vanished into the shadows before the darkness disappeared like an illusion and the background of a desolated street returned.
———
Far away from Guili harbor, a beautiful lady dressed in armor like a valkyrie and a cat suddenly appeared in the middle of a forest.
"Master!"
Freya cried out with panic cradled Ray who suddenly turned limp before his body convulsed violently.
In truth, what truly happened during the confrontation was Ray putting on a fake display of strength to capitalize on the fact that the true extent of his strength is still not known to many and he managed to intimidate Morax Lapis to at least treat him as a potential adversary he did not wish to have. Which would make Morax more likely to agree.
To cement his fake display of strength, Ray condensed all his power during the little time he buyed talking to Morax before erupting everything in one go, going several hundred times his maximum output. To put it into perspective, it's like blasting a water tank apart to release all the water in one go.
Naturally, the consequence of his recklessness is his body being torn apart inside out which leads to his present state.
"It's… alright. I just need to rest." Ray said, laying weakly in Freya's hands before bringing them both into his Shadow Space.
Immediately Freya rushed to find Asia and hoped her Twilight Healing could heal his body or at least mitigate part of the backlash.
Ray does not regret his reckless actions. The battle against the Heavenly Principles is not something he could win alone. He needed help and knowing how the future Archons view the Heavenly Principles, they are the best candidates for allies.
Besides, Morax Lapis or Zhong Li, the God of Contracts is the best allies he could ever get because he can rest assured of his stance with a contract binding their alliance which reduces the possibility of betrayal to none. Meaning, someone he could truly rely on and trust in this world of Teyvat. Which makes him an important person to his overall plan.
