I Am Unaware That I Am the Peerless Martial God

Chapter 997: The Terrifying Demon Arrives

The black-robed skeleton at the forefront hurriedly bowed, its jawbone trembling as it let out a shaky voice.

"Reporting to the esteemed lords..."

"We have served here for countless ages, yet we have never witnessed such an occurrence and do not know its cause. However... recently, a certain formation seems to have malfunctioned, as if someone had escaped from it."

"We beg for your forgiveness, my lords. Only this one formation has shown flaws, and we are powerless to rectify it..."

A sea of skeletons trembled in fear, not daring to raise their heads.

The demons listened with grave expressions, yet they did not overly blame the skeletons—as if these servile undead were beneath their notice, and their limited capabilities were only to be expected.

After a long silence, the Half-faced Skeleton spoke coldly.

"It seems humans have grown slightly stronger, daring to intrude into the Black Domain. This is highly suspicious. I shall personally investigate!"

As one of the few awakened and fully restored demonic overlords, the Half-faced Skeleton took the lead without hesitation, his eyes filled with disdain. To him, humans were nothing but weak and pitiful creatures.

If not for the grand scheme of the demon race, he would never deign to involve himself in such matters.

His words were quickly echoed by the other demons.

"In that case, we leave it to the esteemed Skeleton Venerable!"

"We shall guard the Black Domain and await further orders from the Demon Sovereign!"

Only the massive shadow of a bull-headed demon spoke up with unwavering loyalty.

"Hold on!"

"It has been years since I last stepped into the outside world. I shall accompany you to investigate thoroughly. This concerns the Demon Sovereign's grand design—there must be no mistakes!"

His meticulous words contrasted sharply with his towering figure, yet they garnered unanimous agreement.

The Half-faced Skeleton hesitated briefly.

Considering the Demon Sovereign's monumental scheme, he reluctantly agreed.

"Very well, let us go together and capture a couple of Saints for questioning!"

As his hoarse voice faded, the two demons unleashed their power, transforming into streaks of black light that pierced through the fabric of space. Their terrifying presence descended upon the Luoyun Immortal Domain, instantly alarming a Saint-level expert.

Even from a distance, the overwhelming aura of death made the Saint's expression darken.

"So it's true... the demons have awakened!"

"And their power is immense!"

The old man muttered in shock. Days ago, he had received orders from the Celestial Assembly to monitor the Black Domain, but he never imagined the warning would prove true.

As a senior of the Luoyun Immortal Domain, Dan Chenzi was also a Saint, yet he paled in comparison to the true might of the demonic overlords. Just sensing their aura told him how dangerous they were.

Despite his fear, for the sake of humanity, Dan Chenzi steeled himself.

After sending a message through his jade slip, he tore through the void, charging toward the terrifying presence. Even at great risk, he resolved to intercept the two demons.

Midway through his desperate advance, he suddenly sensed an overwhelmingly powerful Saint-level aura—an elder of immense strength, traversing the immortal domain!

Dan Chenzi's heart leaped, and he hurried toward the approaching Saint.

When he saw that it was Gu Taiyuan, an ancestral elder of the Gu Clan and a peerless expert from millennia past, his confidence soared.

Without hesitation, he rushed forward and bowed urgently.

"Greetings, Elder Gu!"

The white-haired elder, though youthful in appearance, wore a stern expression.

"What is it?!"

Dan Chenzi pleaded with urgency, appealing to his sense of duty.

"Elder! Demonic beings have descended. I intend to stop them, but my strength is insufficient. With your supreme power, if you lend your aid, we can surely defeat them and achieve a great victory for humanity! I beg—"

Before he could finish, Gu Taiyuan spread his divine sense, his murky eyes flickering before he coldly waved his sleeve.

"Demons indeed..."

"However, I have a blood debt to settle—a matter of utmost importance. Moreover, I am old and may not be of much help."

The death of the Gu Clan's prodigy, Gu Qingcheng, remained unavenged. How could he spare time for demons? The Celestial Assembly had plenty of hands—one or two demons wouldn't cause much trouble.

Besides, the two demons' auras were too strong. He had no confidence in facing them, and provoking such danger was unwise.

Having survived for countless years, Gu Taiyuan was a master of weighing pros and cons. His refusal was swift and absolute, leaving no room for further persuasion.

In an instant, he vanished without a trace.

His departure was so abrupt it felt almost unnatural.

Watching the elder flee, Dan Chenzi could only lick his dry lips, muttering bitterly about the decline of virtue. Gritting his teeth, he turned away.

But as he turned, he froze—two shadowy figures now loomed in the sky!

One was the Half-faced Skeleton, short in stature but exuding an aura of terror. Just the sight of him filled Dan Chenzi with immense pressure, rendering him immobile.

The other was a colossal bull-headed figure, standing at least thirty feet tall, its piercing eyes locked onto him as if seeing through his very soul, ready to strike at any moment.

No! The demons were already here!

Dan Chenzi jolted awake, inwardly cursing the Gu Clan elder for his cowardice. Though fear gripped him, he refused to retreat. With a furious roar, he unleashed all his Dao power!

"BOOM!!!"

A deafening explosion resounded—his supreme Dao force was completely absorbed, and Dan Chenzi himself vanished without a trace. Only his robes fluttered in the wind, a tragic sight.

The Half-faced Skeleton picked at his teeth indifferently.

"Humans remain as weak as ever."

The bull-headed demon snorted in disdain.

"And I sensed another Saint's aura earlier... yet it disappeared in an instant."

His massive eyes scanned the land, missing nothing.

Hidden within his ancestral treasure amidst towering peaks, Gu Taiyuan was drenched in cold sweat, feeling death closer than ever before.

Too terrifying!

The demons' power was beyond imagination. He couldn't even muster the courage to face them directly. A thousand years of cultivation meant nothing before such beings—he was like a child in their presence.

Fortunately, the two demons didn't seem to notice him. Instead, the Half-faced Skeleton peered at the ground, muttering in suspicion.

"Strange... the aura is truly gone..."

"Hmm? A demon servant has escaped the Demon Domain?"

The bull-headed demon followed his gaze.

Beyond the dense forest, a black-cloaked skeleton strolled merrily, followed by a few bizarre creatures, humming an odd tune.

"Sen lei dei fa, o xiang you dai lei hui ga~ Zai la sen ye jiu ba, la guan ta xi gen xi ga..."

Clearly, it had been in the human realm for a long time, already influenced by their ways.

Its madness aside, it had willingly degraded itself by mingling with lesser beings, utterly disregarding its duties as a demon servant. Such insolence!

Enraged, the Half-faced Skeleton clenched his bony fist.

"Wretch! A lowly demon servant dares to act so recklessly? If this disrupts the Demon Sovereign's plans, even the annihilation of its soul won't be enough to atone!"

The bull-headed demon, however, remained calm, sensing something amiss.

"This is suspicious. Let's capture it first and interrogate it—find out how it escaped."

The two demons exchanged nods, then tore through space, descending upon the land with overwhelming menace. Arms crossed, they glared down at the rogue servant.

"Audacious fool!"

"You dare abandon your post?! Speak—who allowed you to come here?!"

A thunderous roar shook the heavens and earth!

Yet the cloaked skeleton merely wore a blank expression, while the dog and centipede trailing behind it exchanged bewildered glances. The group of dimwits stared for a long moment, their faces all etched with the same look of utter bafflement.

Finally, it was the bear, who had been trailing behind, that pushed aside a roadside tree trunk and panted heavily before voicing its confusion.

"Eh? Boss, are these two your new friends...?"
