I Awaken the Forge of Dimensions

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Descent into Chaos

The Obsidian Wastes stretched behind them as the coalition pushed forward into the Abyssal Divide. This region was unlike anything Ethan had encountered before. The air itself seemed heavier, laden with a palpable tension that pressed against his chest. The terrain was jagged and unstable, and every step echoed ominously in the vast emptiness.

Liora strode beside him, her fiery tattoos glowing faintly in the dim light. "The Abyssal Divide is no place for the faint of heart," she said, her voice low. "The energy here twists reality. Zeyra's forces won't be the only danger we face."

Ethan glanced at her, his grip tightening on the gauntlet. "Anything we should know?"

"Stay close and trust your instincts," Liora replied. "The Divide preys on doubt and fear. If you let it, it will consume you."

Kael moved ahead, their silver eyes scanning the terrain. "The next anchor is deeper within. If the Divide's energy is this strong out here, it will only intensify as we get closer."

Ethan nodded, the Forge's hum steady within him. "Then let's keep moving. The longer we wait, the stronger Zeyra's forces get."

The deeper they ventured, the more the Abyssal Divide revealed its horrors. Shadows twisted unnaturally, their shapes shifting into monstrous forms that seemed to leer at the group. The ground itself was unstable, fracturing and shifting beneath their feet.

Suddenly, the air grew cold, and a low growl echoed through the Divide. The group halted, their weapons ready as dark forms began to emerge from the shadows. These were not the Shades they had encountered before. These creatures were larger, their bodies warped and grotesque, their eyes glowing with an unnatural crimson light.

"Abyssal Shades," Kael said, their voice tight. "Stronger than the others. Stay together and don't let them isolate you."

The first creature lunged, its claws swiping through the air. Ethan raised his gauntlet, summoning a shield that absorbed the impact. The force sent him skidding back, but he held firm, countering with a blast of energy that sent the creature reeling.

Liora and the Zar'Kar warriors shifted into their primal forms, their attacks ferocious as they tore through the Shades. The Emberforge warriors held the line, their fiery constructs clashing against the creatures with explosive intensity.

Kael moved with precision, their silver blades cutting through the enemy with deadly efficiency. "Ethan, focus on the larger ones! They're anchoring the others!"

Ethan nodded, his blade reforming in his hand as he targeted the largest of the creatures. The Forge's energy surged within him, his movements fluid and deliberate as he struck. The creature roared, its claws lashing out, but Ethan dodged, driving his blade into its core. The creature shuddered before collapsing into a wisp of shadow.

"One down," Ethan muttered, turning to face the next.

The battle raged, each strike testing the coalition's endurance. The Abyssal Shades fought with relentless aggression, their attacks coordinated as if driven by a singular will. Despite the odds, the coalition held their ground, their unity a beacon of hope in the darkness.

Finally, the last of the Shades fell, their forms dissolving into the shadows. The air grew still, the oppressive energy lifting slightly.

Kael approached Ethan, their expression a mix of relief and concern. "The Abyssal Divide won't let us pass easily. The anchor will be even more heavily guarded."

Ethan exhaled, his chest heaving. "Then we keep pushing. Every step we take is one closer to ending this."

Liora joined them, her tattoos dimming as she returned to her human form. "Your strength is impressive, Wielder. But the Divide is testing us. If we falter, it will exploit our weaknesses."

Ethan met her gaze, his resolve unshaken. "Then we don't falter."

As they neared the anchor's location, the air grew heavier, and the terrain became more treacherous. The crystalline structure loomed ahead, its chaotic energy spilling into the environment. Surrounding it were more of Zeyra's forces, their constructs glowing menacingly as they patrolled the area.

Kael motioned for the group to halt, their silver eyes narrowing. "We need a new approach. This isn't just a battle—it's a test of endurance. If we rush in, we'll be overwhelmed."

Ethan studied the scene, his mind racing. "What if we draw them out? Create a diversion to split their forces?"

Liora's lips curved into a predatory smile. "The Zar'Kar can handle that. Our primal forms will keep them busy while you and Kael strike the anchor."

Kael nodded. "It's risky, but it could work. Liora, make sure the diversion lasts long enough for us to dismantle the anchor's defenses."

Liora's eyes gleamed. "We'll give you all the time you need."

The plan unfolded with precision. The Zar'Kar charged into the enemy ranks, their primal energy tearing through the defenders with feral intensity. The Emberforge warriors supported them, their fiery constructs creating barriers and blasting through the opposition.

Kael and Ethan used the chaos to slip past the frontline, their movements swift and deliberate. As they neared the anchor, its energy pulsed violently, the air crackling with tension.

"I'll handle the stabilizers," Kael said, their voice steady. "You focus on the core."

Ethan nodded, his gauntlet glowing brightly. "Let's end this."

The battle at the anchor was brutal. The defenders fought with desperation, their attacks relentless as Ethan and Kael worked to dismantle the structure. Ethan felt the Forge's energy surging within him, his constructs shifting fluidly as he countered every strike.

Kael's movements were precise and calculated, their silver blades cutting through the stabilizers with practiced ease. "Ethan, now!" they shouted, the final stabilizer collapsing under their strike.

Ethan channeled the Forge's energy into a single, focused blast. The anchor's core cracked and shattered, its remnants dissolving into the air. The oppressive energy lifted, and the battlefield grew silent.

Kael approached, their expression a mix of exhaustion and pride. "Another victory. Zeyra's losing ground."

Ethan nodded, his chest heaving as the gauntlet's glow dimmed. "We're not done yet. Let's keep moving."

As the coalition regrouped and prepared to leave the Abyssal Divide, Ethan felt a flicker of hope amidst the darkness. Each battle brought them closer to victory, and he was determined to see it through.

"One step at a time," he murmured, the Forge's hum steady as they pressed on.
