Chapter 57: What Happened to the Ice Dragon King?

Chapter 57: What Happened to the Ice Dragon King?

They cleared a lot of magical beasts that got in their way on their journey, and to top it off, they were climbing a mountain in this blizzard. Their stamina had taken quite a hit. By the time they reached the Ice Dragon King’s palace, both of them were nearly exhausted.

“Lord Gaia, I really can’t go on. I need to rest for a bit. If I don’t, I feel like I’m going to crack open!”

Ouxs leaned against a rock, sitting down for a breather. Following Gaia to the palace steps had already drained his energy, and now he felt like he could barely muster a single ounce of strength. He absolutely needed a break.

“Well, you can rest here for a bit. I’ll check on the Ice Dragon King’s situation.”

They were already at the Ice Dragon King’s palace, but to be honest, Gaia wanted Ouxs to push a little harder. However, seeing how utterly worn out Ouxs was, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything more and left him there to rest. He made his way to the Ice Dragon King’s palace entrance alone.

“Oh no, it looks like something’s really wrong here!”

When Gaia saw that the front gate of the Ice Dragon King’s palace was wide open, his immediate reaction was dread; the Ice Dragon King never left the door ajar—something definitely must have happened. He needed to get inside and check!

“Ice Dragon King! Are you there? It’s Gaia. If you’re here, please answer me!”

Stepping through the palace door, Gaia shouted as loud as he could, hoping for a response from the Ice Dragon King.

But no response came; the entire palace was eerily silent, sending chills of fear down Gaia’s spine. A wave of anxiety compelled him to quicken his pace deeper into the palace, heading toward the throne room.

It seemed an exceptionally fierce battle had taken place here; the throne was littered with signs of combat, and Gaia could even feel the residual battle aura left by the Ice Dragon King. It appeared the Ice Dragon King had fought some powerful enemy.

However, if the Ice Dragon King wasn’t here, that likely meant he had…

“I’m not dead yet! Don’t start the mourning too soon!”

Just when Gaia assumed the worst, he heard the Ice Dragon King’s voice from behind him.

“Ice Dragon King? Are you alright? Those injuries on you…”

Turning around, Gaia saw the Ice Dragon King had transformed into a humanoid form, standing behind him with Ouxs over his shoulder. But what stood out most were the various wounds on him, including a noticeable scar above his left eye.

“Don’t worry, these wounds are manageable as long as I’m not fighting. I apologize for showing you this sorry state. You came to see me for something, right? You want me to participate in the rescue plan for Ailin, don’t you? But I’m afraid I can’t help with that. I just had a fierce battle with some guys, so I’m out of commission.”

The Ice Dragon King apologized to Gaia, clearly remorseful for not being able to assist because of his injuries.

“No, it’s fine; as long as you’re okay, that’s what matters. But seriously, what happened here?”

Gaia looked around at the wreckage of the throne room. Who could the Ice Dragon King have fought to end up like this?

“Ugh, it’s a long story. I was here leading the Ice Dragon Clan when suddenly, two guys claiming to be Ultimate Life Forms barged into my palace. I had to fight them to defend my throne. The result? Well, I ended up like this, but I managed to drive them off. What a disgrace, huh?”

The Ice Dragon King looked embarrassed as he explained. It was quite a shame for a mighty Ice Dragon King to be so thoroughly beaten by two intruders; if other dragons found out, they’d surely burst out laughing.

“No, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. So, those two were indeed Ultimate Life Forms?”

“Yep. One goes by Gilbaris, the other calls himself Titan. They’re both incredibly strong. I couldn’t gain any ground against them—I ended up battered and bruised!”

Recalling that moment, the Ice Dragon King’s anger flared. Those two were indeed strong, and he had zero advantage in the fight; by the time it ended, the Ultimate Life Forms retreated without a scratch, while he lay there injured on his throne, being carried away by the other Ice Dragons for treatment.

“Well, it’s quite something that you managed to survive against two Ultimate Life Forms. I’m just glad you’re fine, Ice Dragon King.”

Although Gaia felt a twinge of disappointment at failing their mission, as long as the Ice Dragon King was unharmed, that was the most important thing. If the Ice Dragon King had died, it would have been an immense psychological blow for him.

“Still, I can’t say I’m alright. I won’t be able to fight until my injuries heal. I’m sorry; the task of rescuing my daughter is now in your hands. You must save her! If they complete the sacrifice ritual, it will all be over!”

The Ice Dragon King lowered his head with regret, pleading with Gaia to save his daughter. Honestly, he could only watch, powerless and tormented, during the rescue of Ailin.

“Don’t worry! I will do everything in my power to rescue Ailin from their clutches! Even if it costs me my life, I will bring her back from those Ultimate Life Forms!”

Gaia made a solemn promise to the Ice Dragon King that he would rescue Ailin.

As Gaia made his promise, a potion that had been in his pocket rolled out and fell to the ground.

“This potion… if I remember correctly, it’s…”

Gaia looked at the potion, remembering that Mios had told him it was a recovery potion left by Aierjisi, capable of fully restoring health and magic even if the user had been dead for less than twenty minutes.

What would happen if the Ice Dragon King drank this potion, he wondered?

Meanwhile, Gilbaris and Titan had returned to their territory.

“Now Diablo should have a bit of an easier time. We’ve dealt some serious damage to the Ice Dragon King, and he won’t be able to battle for a while.”

“True. But Gilbaris, you seem to coddle Diablo too much. He obviously looks down on us; why go through all this trouble for him? Even if he knew, he wouldn’t thank you.”

Titan was baffled by Gilbaris’s actions, seeing no gain in return.

“Listen, Titan, we are all part of the Chaos Clan, companions of the Adrian People. We share the same goal of gathering sacrifices to resurrect that great one. So what if I lend a hand to Diablo? Even if he won’t thank me, I will handle these details for him anyway.”
