Chapter 457: Hero Arrival

Mirna opened her eyes, her blue eyes scouring the area for any sign of threats to her and her group.

"Looks like there is no monsters nearby." the blonde hero said outloud, though she never let her guard down less she suffer the consequences.

"It seem so, Lady Hero." one of her companions said. The Pope of Holy Nation had gave her a large number of A-rank heroes, 97 of them in fact. Three more and she would have a company of A-rankers.

"I still think the Pope send in too many elites with me." she lightly complained. Even though her voice was heard by them, none of her companions replied, save for one.

"Of course, Mirna. You can handle any foes easily as long as they are not S-rank monsters or Demon Lords, but there are more monsters here, and you are only one person.

So, you need help to deal with them, not because they are even a challenge for you, but because they are just too many of them for you to finish the clearing of monsters in Astor Kingdom." one of her companions replied.

"I know, Kirana, but still, it made the travel time longer." the A-rank Holy Knight could not disagree.

If Mirna had been going with her pace, reaching the Kingdom in one month from the Holy Nation is possible. However, with them following her, she of course could not run as fast, and so, was forced to keep with them, likely condemning the small Kingdom to its doom.

However, Kirana would not voice out the possibility, less her friend suffer from depression, again.

"Let's enter the Kingdom, and keep a lookout. I don't want any monsters to take us by surprise."

The moment they pass the Kingdom's border, they could see devastation across the land.

"It seem, we are too late." one of the Holy Knight said, his eyes, as well as the others, on the scorched grounds of what should once be a village.

"Darn it!" Mirna growled, her Holy Aura pushing back some of the weaker A-rankers with her sheer presence alone.

"Mirna!" Kirana's yell woke the Hero up, who calmed herself, taking control of her raging emotions.

"Apologies for that. I need to calm down for the moment, so, please wait here while I search for monsters to take out." with that, the Hero ran so fast he left several afterimage.

One of the Paladin about to reach out for her, but was stop by Kirana.

"Don't," the female Holy Knight said, "when she get like this, getting close is a good way to be send to the healers." flashback of previous accident flashes through her eyes before the black-haired woman shake off the memory, not wanting to remember some of the painful accidents.

Some members of the group seem to want to object, but before they could do that, loud explosion with brilliant light happened near their vicinity. They shielded their eyes, though it barely did anything against the light.

"If you want to go there, be my guest." Kirana said, pointing to the source of the light. Fortunately, for the members of the Astor Hero Expedition, they have some brains in their heads.

Which is why none volunteer to do what would no doubt be suicide jobs.

"Feeling better?" Kirana asked.

"Slightly. But it will be much better when I cave in the face of the demon that cause all this." Mirna answered, which translated to her not being alright, but still could manage for now.

"In that case, let's get going to the capital. I hope there is something there, preferably something I could beat up!"

With her enthusiastic, and violent desire coming forth, the members, with the exception for Kirana took few steps back, not wanting to be in the splash zone.

While sending the other members to check the remaining cities and Nobledom would be a good idea, Mirna decided against it as the demon could hunt them down, or there could be more resistance.

With such sound argument, the Astor Hero Expedition with all its force head straight to the capital of the once proud nation. Though, when they got there, they have to rub their eyes to see if they were not seeing things.

"W-we are at the capital, right?" the Hero asked, turning towards the Holy Mage who is carrying the map.

"Yes, Lady Mirna. We are here." she said, though her tone clearly wishing she was wrong.

The Hero could not blame her, as where once stood a city capable of populating even a million citizens, there are now just rubble. Not even ruin, just rubble.

"Why, why does the demon did such thing?" Mirna could not understand it in the slightest.

"Demons are scum. They likely destroy it for their amusement." a Paladin said, absolutely biased against demon.

He expected to get some sort of agreement from the Hero. What he get instead is a piercing and unamused glare.

"Demons, the stronger they are, they smarter they would be. They could live longer than us human, which allow them to accumulate strength. Hence, an Archdemon, what we should be facing, would not be doing something as stupid as destroying the capital without reason." Mirna explained.

"Are you sure about that, Lady Mirna?" another Paladin sound unconvinced.

"Yes." Mirna replied with a harsher tone, annoyed at the stupidity caused by their bias.

"Archdemon are usually old demon, with the youngest being around 300 or so. Their old age allow them to gain experience dealing with any of the sentient races, hence why they are considered a danger.

And an Archdemon that could destroy an entire nation would be even stronger and more cunning. Yet, it did something as stupid as destroying the capital, where it could build it seat of power."

"Maybe they knew of our arrival, hence why the demon decided to go for the scorch earth policy?" Kirana suggested. Mirna looked like she had not considered that angle previously.

"Maybe. Still, it make our job even harder, as we need to search for the demon and it's underling, or it could escape."

Unbeknownst to the Astor Hero Expedition, a small rat is nearby, it's eyes purple as it transmit the information to its master, and in return, to its master's master.
