Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Battle Begins
A crimson-gold hue painted the horizon as the sun began its slow ascent. Shaurya stood atop a cliff overlooking the Sanatan Flame Sect, the wind gently brushing his white robes. He watched the sunrise in silence, his hands behind his back, a peaceful smile gracing his face.
"Peace is great," he whispered to himself. "But this peace is only for a short time. After this calm, a great war awaits."
He bowed respectfully toward the rising sun, his voice firm and reverent, "Jai Surya Dev."
With that, he turned and descended the cliff, his mind already focused on the preparations ahead. Unbeknownst to him, Lin Shu stood behind a tree, watching him with a curious expression.
"What is he doing... bowing to the sun?" she murmured, puzzled. Then she shook her head, her cheeks tinting pink. "Why am I even thinking about him?"
She turned away, but not before a smile tugged at her lips.
---
Later that morning, Lin Shu arrived at the female disciple training grounds, where Elder Liya was overseeing practice. She stepped in to help, guiding some of the younger recruits with precise movements and soft corrections. Her natural talent and calm demeanor impressed Elder Liya.
"You learn fast, Lin Shu," Elder Liya said with a warm smile. "Your guidance is graceful yet firm."
Lin Shu bowed slightly. "Thank you, Elder. I'm just doing my part."
---
Meanwhile, in a secluded part of the sect, the spies gathered for a secret meeting. Unaware that Lin Shu was no longer under the curse—or their control—they welcomed her presence, believing her to still be their ally.
A glowing transmitting formation activated in the center of the room, and Gu Yang's image emerged.
"We are attacking with full force," Gu Yang announced, his voice cold and commanding. "The Lin Family will join us. First, we will crush the Sanatan Flame Sect. Then, we will seize the entire city."
The spies nodded obediently.
"If you can, kill a few of their disciples before we arrive. Weaken their inner defenses. Spread fear."
The transmission ended.
One of the spies, Gu Wen, smirked. "Perfect. Let's start with those naive outer disciples. And maybe a few handyman weaklings."
The group chuckled darkly, already planning their first strike. Lin Shu silently stood up.
"Where are you going?" one of them asked suspiciously.
She shot him a piercing glare. His bravado vanished instantly, and he stepped back in fear.
Another spy nudged him. "Let her go. She's probably handling her part."
Outside, Lin Shu walked calmly toward the inner hall, her face neutral, but her thoughts racing. Her message had already reached Shaurya.
---
In the central hall of the sect, Shaurya sat on his throne, in full attitude, one hand on his chin and fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest.
"So, they're bringing their full force... heh." A devilish smile spread across his face. "Then let's show them what true power is."
Xiao Lian entered swiftly, a fiery determination in her eyes. "Master, leave the spies to me. I will end them."
Shaurya stood and walked over to her, placing a hand on her head gently. "Xiao Lian, you're still a child. Violence isn't for you unless it's absolutely necessary. Lee Bie, Xiao Rui—handle the spies."
"Yes, Master!" they replied in unison before vanishing into action.
---
Far away, aboard a massive warship, Gu Yang stood donned in fearsome black samurai-style armor, a greatsword strapped across his back. Beside him, Lin Ru wore deep blue armor, wielding a massive axe. Behind them, an army of nearly 500 cultivators filled seven airships, ready for blood.
"Today, we end the Sanatan Flame Sect," Gu Yang said darkly.
"And tomorrow," Lin Ru added, "we claim the entire city."
With that, their fleet advanced through the skies, heading straight for their target.
---
At the Sanatan Flame Sect, Shaurya stood in the courtyard, surrounded by 470 disciples and four elders. His presence was calm yet commanding.
Soon, Xiao Rui and Lee Bie returned, their swords stained crimson.
"Master," Xiao Rui said, bowing. "The task is complete."
Shaurya gave a nod and a confident thumbs-up. "Excellent. No more pretending. No more hiding. Release your true auras."
A golden burst of spiritual energy erupted across the sect. The very ground trembled beneath the sheer magnitude of their collective power.
Shaurya grinned. "Go. Hide. Let them come. Let them see."
The disciples vanished into hidden formations, waiting for the right moment to strike.
---
Soon, the seven enemy ships appeared over the Sanatan Flame Sect. The sky darkened. Thunder tumbled—Not from the skies but from the war cries erupting within them.3 ships bore the twisted flag of Gu family and 3 bore Lin family.
Gu Yang and Lin Ru stepped onto the front deck, overlooking the apparently empty sect.
"Empty?" Lin Ru muttered. "Where are they?"
"They're partying somewhere, probably drunk on fear," Gu Yang scoffed. "Let's turn their celebration into carnage. There chilling into killing."
They sent one ship forward with 100 soldiers and a leading elder to begin the assault.
The squad descended confidently onto the sect grounds. "Kill them all," the elder ordered.
But before a single step could be taken, a radiant purple array lit up the ground, freezing every attacker in place.
"What?!" the elder shouted.
Suddenly, infront of them. Shaurya descended in a superhero landing, wind swirling dramatically around him. A devilish smile curled on his lips.
"You thought you could march into my sect and kill my people?" he asked, his voice thunderous. "Dream on."
He snapped his fingers.
A surge of purple flames erupted from the array. The screams of the 100 invaders echoed for mere seconds before they were reduced to ash.
Above, Gu Yang and Lin Ru watched in horror, their eyes wide, jaws clenched.
Shaurya looked up at them, pointed his finger skyward, and smirked.
"Next turn is yours."
As the ash from the fallen invaders scattered in the wind, a cold silence descended over the battlefield. Shaurya stood tall amid the fading purple glow of the soul-crushing array, his robes fluttering with the breeze, his expression unreadable yet composed.
From high above, a furious roar broke the stillness.
"You unfaithful daughter! Where are you?! Kill him!!" Lin Ru's voice thundered from one of the ships.
Shaurya didn't flinch. A faint smile tugged at his lips. "So predictable."
From the thick branches of an ancient tree, a figure leapt into the air. Lin Shu descended with grace and power, landing on one leg with her arms outstretched in perfect balance. Her robes rippled as she landed beside Shaurya, her aura calm, but her gaze cold and fierce.
Lin Ru's voice trembled with disbelief. "You... you dumb girl! What are you waiting for?! Kill him!!"
Lin Shu turned her icy gaze toward her so-called father. Her voice cut through the tension like a blade. "Why should I?"
The air grew still. Even the wind seemed to pause.
Lin Ru reeled back in confusion. "What… what do you mean by this?"
Shaurya stepped forward with a casual confidence, hands behind his back, smirk playing on his lips. "What happened, Lin Ru? Did the world crumble beneath your feet?"
He chuckled darkly. "Did you really believe you could send spies into my sect… and I wouldn't know?"
Lin Ru's face twisted in shock.
"I've known your little plan from the very beginning," Shaurya continued. "And the moment Lin Shu stepped into my sect, I severed the curse you placed on her. She's no longer your puppet."
Lin Ru, now pale with rage, pulled a crimson soul crystal from his robe and activated it. Nothing happened.
He tried again. Still nothing.
"No use," Shaurya said with an edge in his tone. "Your shackles on her soul are gone. I burned them away."
Lin Shu's expression did not waver, but her eyes held a storm of emotion.
"You… you…" Lin Ru stammered, his body trembling.
"You're going to pay," Shaurya said coldly, taking one step forward, his spiritual pressure slowly rising. "For everything you did to her. For killing her mother. For torturing her. For trying to sell her off like property to marry some filthy trash."
Lin Ru's face twisted in fury. The air around him crackled as he released his full aura.
[System Alert: Name: Lin Ru | Level: Core Formation - Level 8]
Shaurya's eyes narrowed slightly. "So… this owl does have some fangs."
Suddenly, Gu Yang descended from his ship, his blade resting on his shoulder.
"Don't worry, Lin Ru," he said, grinning with bloodlust. "We'll crush this arrogant brat together."
Shaurya glanced upward.
[System Alert: Name: Gu Yang | Level: Core Formation - Level 6]
Two enemies at Core Formation level, and both strong.
Shaurya stretched his shoulders and cracked his knuckles, his expression unreadable.
Lin Shu glanced at him, noticing a shift in his mood. "Are you… nervous?"
Shaurya exhaled deeply. "No. Just warming up."
He looked skyward and then shouted, "Come out, all of you!"
In an instant, hundreds of figures emerged from behind rocks, trees, and hidden formations. Shaurya's disciples—his true army—stepped into view. Their expressions were calm, focused, and deadly. One by one, they unleashed their suppressed aura.
A brilliant golden light enveloped the sect grounds. The pressure was immense.
Lin Ru and Gu Yang staggered backward, eyes wide in disbelief.
"This—this isn't possible…" Gu Yang whispered. "They're strong… this strong?!"
Shaurya grinned. "You really are fools. Everything you saw was what I allowed you to see. You thought we were weak?" He chuckled darkly. "You walked straight into my trap. This was all part of my plan."
With a sharp snap of his fingers, he pointed toward the ships.
Lin Ru and Gu Yang, now truly infuriated, screamed in unison, "Attack!!"
Four hundred cultivators—disciples, elders, and elite warriors from the Gu and Lin Families—leapt from the ships, descending with swords drawn and murderous intent.
Shaurya, standing firm, raised his hand and shouted.
"Disciples of Sanatan Flame Sect… let the show begin."
A unified war cry echoed.
"YEAHHHHHHH!!"
Four hundred enemy cultivators vs 470 disciples and three elders of the Sanatan Flame Sect. They all rushed towards each other. The earth trembled, the skies roared. Spiritual energies collided in vibrant explosions. Sword vs Sword. Fist vs Fist. A massive collision.
Shaurya and Lin Shu stood at the ground. Across from them, Gu Yang and Lin Ru floated above their troops, releasing their killing intent like thunder.
Their gazes locked.
Shaurya's eyes were filled with fire.
Lin Ru's were filled with rage.
Gu Yang's were filled with bloodlust.
Lin Shu stood silently, her resolve hardening.
The real battle… had begun.
To be continued...
