I Can Recognize Everything, But the Information is Wrong

Chapter 479: Questioning

Tian Lin and Mei Xianfu shook their heads, then Tian Lin made eye contact with the woman who looked strikingly similar to Mei Xianfu.

The woman who resembled Mei Xianfu walked towards the bed where Mei Xianfu was, making a 'rustling' paper sound as she moved.

Seeing this counterfeit version of herself, who not only resembled her in appearance but also moved awkwardly, Mei Xianfu almost burst into laughter out of anger.

But by then, Tian Lin had already opened the door and left, so she had to suppress the urge to tear apart the paperman and follow Tian Lin out the door.

Both of them were Foundation Establishment Cultivators, moving as silently as ghosts. By the time they left the small building, Xin Auntie and the others inside had not noticed a thing.

The streets at night were desolate, with only a few inconspicuous corners where vagrants hid, awaiting their demise.

Tian Lin and Mei Xianfu glanced at the beggars lurking in the filthy corners along the street, then Tian Lin led the way towards the secret realm entrance they first used when entering Fuzhou.

"What about Cui'er and her sisters, did you leave them at the inn?"

Upon hearing Mei Xianfu's voice transmission, Tian Lin replied without turning his head, "With their 'bed-squeaking' sounds, it's the perfect cover for my movements."

Mei Xianfu couldn't help but respond, "Your paperman won't fool anyone. Once they discover your trickery, even if we escape, what about Cui'er and her sisters?"

Tian Lin's transmission was notably cold, "They are sword holders—aren't they supposed to carry their master's burden at such times?"

Mei Xianfu was momentarily speechless.

Strictly speaking, she had replaced far more sword holders than Tian Lin ever had.

Many sword holders had died for her, and she never felt much regret.

But she had some feelings for Cui'er and her sisters, which made her somewhat reluctant to see them abandoned by Tian Lin.

Yet Tian Lin was right; sword holders are meant to shield the blade at crucial moments. Otherwise, why would a cultivator need a sword holder?

"A dark, windy night—a night for murder!"

Tian Lin soon reached the secret well but was in no hurry to inspect it; instead, he looked up at the moon above.

Mei Xianfu snorted coldly, "If we knew Cui'er and her sisters would die, there was no need to come to the Goddess Sect this time."

She wasn't worried about her grandfather's safety because the sect's Immortal Tree guarded him, and the outside Nascent Soul Cultivators couldn't do anything to Elder Mei within the sect.

"The moonlight is at its peak. To escape the control of that Nascent Soul Punishment Envoy, we must open the secret well before he discovers our escape and seek refuge in the Goddess Sect."

Looking at Mei Xianfu, Tian Lin transmitted, "Time waits for no one, act quickly."

Mei Xianfu nodded and hurried to the secret well, then took out her Divine Lady Tree and plucked some branches from it.

She placed the branches in four directions and muttered incantations.

The branches absorbed Spiritual Energy and moonlight, and soon there was a sound of wind among the courtyard's plants, and the abandoned stone well shone brilliantly.

Tian Lin watched as the ancient well transformed into a jade well, seemingly connecting to another Immortal Realm.

He approached the jade well and peered inside.

Before he could clearly see the state inside, Mei Xianfu spoke, "The other end of the well seems to be sealed."

Tian Lin raised an eyebrow, and Mei Xianfu performed her magic again. The well, which had reverted to an abandoned state, transformed back into a jade well. Tian Lin looked in again but could only see blinding white light and couldn't make out the state beyond it.

The effort to connect the two pathways was immense, and even at her Golden Core Realm, Mei Xianfu was struggling.

Her complexion turned pale, and after holding out for another quarter hour, she relinquished her efforts, "The passage is indeed sealed on the other end. We cannot enter the Goddess Sect through this secret well."

Tian Lin nodded and said, "Perhaps the people of the Goddess Sect are afraid of betrayal from the outside, so they sealed the passage completely. They can no longer exit through it themselves, but they also prevent anyone from entering from outside."

"What now? Do we leave Fuzhou immediately, or do we return to the small building?"

Mei Xianfu had no intention of attempting to communicate with the secret well anymore.

But since the well was useless, they couldn't use it to escape into the Goddess Sect and seek protection.

This left them at square one. They could either return to the small building and think of another way to escape the Nascent Soul Cultivator's control,

or seize the opportunity to leave Fuzhou before they realized the people in the small building had switched places—although, could they really escape under the eyes of a Nascent Soul Cultivator?

Tian Lin didn't answer Mei Xianfu's question but looked again at the night sky, "A dark, windy night—the perfect time for murder. I feel like my paperman has already been seen through."

As soon as he finished speaking, a man's voice rang out, "Did you really think a few pieces of tattered paper would fool me?"

Mei Xianfu's expression changed, and she raised her hand to throw the Divine Lady Tree at the intruder.

But as soon as she lifted her hand, the man made a pressing motion, and not only could she not throw the Divine Lady Tree, but she couldn't even move.

Tian Lin looked at the arriving man and the group of Golden Core Cultivators, both male and female, with him: "Punishment Envoy?"

The leading man was handsome and refined, appearing to be only in his twenties. But he had just proven with his power that he was the Nascent Soul Cultivator stationed in this Fuzhou.

"Punishment Envoy is an outsider's term for us. I prefer to be called Elder Zuo of the New Heaven Sect."

Tian Lin looked at the man and asked, "When did Elder Zuo realize I was planning to use a paperman as a decoy?"

The man didn't directly answer but instead said, "I'm not interested in answering your question, as you're already a turtle in a jar—however, if you're willing to trade questions with me, I'd be happy to satisfy your curiosity."

"Alright!"

Tian Lin said, "What does Elder Zuo want to know? I swear I'll speak without reservation."

The man replied, "Okay, I'll answer your first question. When you first bought the paperman and the Qimen Dunjia Book from a street vendor, I already knew you planned to use the paperman as a decoy to pull the wool over everyone's eyes."

After speaking, he said, "Now it's my turn to ask you—when did you realize I was targeting you?"

"The first time I bought something from that street vendor, he told me that the Punishment Envoys in Fuzhou were infamous for oppressing men and women. I thought, given Mei Senior Sister's looks, she'd surely attract more attention than those poorly dressed women, wouldn't it?

But when there wasn't a single Punishment Envoy in the restaurant, I thought that even if they weren't lecherous, they shouldn't ignore us. When something is abnormal, there's certainly something fishy going on; that's when I suspected we were under the New Heaven Sect's watch."

Elder Zuo nodded, "You are indeed careful—now it's your turn to ask."

Tian Lin was direct, "The New Heaven Sect is known for its mission to save the people and rebel against the Goddess Sect. So why is it that I've heard the New Heaven Sect's followers oppress and violate others, completely contradicting its doctrine? As an elder of Fuzhou City, doesn't Elder Zuo restrain the New Heaven Sect followers?"

Elder Zuo laughed and said, "As you told that street vendor, what does the life or death of ordinary people matter to me? Now, let me ask you, did you and Mei Xianfu come to Fuzhou City on a sect mission, or was this trip your own decision?"
