Chapter 611 War Trials and Exorbitant Reparations
"Respected Governor, I am the Captain and Chief Executive Officer of the 37th Corps of the Geometric Civilization; we beg your understanding for the offense we incurred previously! In fact, this conflict was merely a misunderstanding—we came to this star system not with malice, but with goodwill and friendship."
The aura around the Chief Executive Officer faintly glowed white as he communicated; his spire-like body also split open, forming a 90-degree fold, a gesture usually reserved for inferiors in the presence of their superiors.
After a major interstellar war and several attacks, the Chief Executive Officer was nearly certain that the other party belonged to a super-civilization with technological prowess far surpassing that of their home world, so his attitude was humbled to an extreme.
After all, this conversation was of paramount importance, directly relating to the survival of their home world.
"Goodwill and friendship?"
Before Lynn could respond, Alade, who had been mingling with the ranks of the Divine Servants, stood up sharply and relayed his message, "Are you referring to the unprovoked attack you launched on our probes?"
"It was not without reason, Governor!" The Chief Executive Officer hastily explained. "We detected that the probe, even when close, continued to accelerate towards us, which may have indicated a significant threat, so we decided to carry out a…"
"Feint!" The Chief Executive Officer struggled to squeeze out the term after some thought.
"That is merely your side of the story. We have precisely calculated the trajectory of the attack; if we hadn't evaded in advance, those fifteen Energy Cannons would have struck the probe from different angles," Alade retorted with a sneer, and Rafael also chimed in.
"Furthermore, that probe was just routinely patrolling the borders of the star system. It accelerated only to verify the situation upon detecting your movements, and did not expect such a fierce attack…"
The pair's remarks left the Chief Executive Officer speechless. Indeed, theirs had been the first hand to strike, but if the other side hadn't taken such easily misunderstood actions, he would have been more cautious for sure.
But the next moment, the Chief Executive Officer realized he had made a significant misjudgment by interpreting the probe's acceleration as a prelude to an attack.
For traditional propulsion systems, this might have been the case, considering deceleration required a period; the most advanced warships of the Geometric Civilization typically needed about twenty atomic seconds to come to a complete halt from sub-light speed.
But the Curvature Engine was different; it could potentially slow from maximum speed to a standstill within a thousand atomic seconds!
Understanding this, the Chief Executive Officer felt a shiver run down his spine, as if on the verge of disintegration. It meant that his misjudgment had indeed led to an interstellar war that should never have occurred…
Now, even if he were to return to his home world, he would likely be imprisoned or even executed for instigating a war.
But now was clearly not the time to consider personal honor or disgrace. The Chief Executive Officer quickly tried to explain, "I think this is just a rather unfavorable misunderstanding, Governor... Our ships employ Antimatter Source propulsion, and it is relatively difficult to change direction or decelerate at ultra-high speeds, so accelerating within a range of one million kilometers is usually regarded as a prelude to an attack…"
The Chief Executive Officer candidly recounted his misjudgment and aggressive actions, suggesting that as the culprit behind the war between the two civilizations, he could self-destruct as an apology!
Of course, that could not completely compensate for the losses of war, but the Geometric Civilization could also offer corresponding reparations.
"Compensation, and how do you intend to compensate? A whole star system or a hundred star system-level warships?" Rafael's face displayed a hint of disdain, but inside he was struggling to contain his excitement and joy.
They had witnessed the power of the Geometric Civilization, and Rafael coveted their Star Annihilation Cannon, a formidable weapon capable of killing a True God and destroying an entire world with one blow!
That superweapon named 'Black Hole' by Lynn was even more terrifying, capable of repelling the chief deity!
The Chief Executive Officer was naturally unaware of Rafael's scheming thoughts, perceiving these words as nothing but overt mockery but found it understandable; providing compensation that would satisfy a more technologically advanced civilization was certainly no easy task.
At the very least, it wasn't something he could decide on his own…
"Respected Governor, concerning the compensation, I am not in a position to give you an immediate answer; I must consult our leaders before making a decision," the Chief Executive Officer once again lowered his stance.
"I have given you a whole month, and you still haven't drafted a statute?" Lynn suddenly interjected.
This statement made the Chief Executive Officer's heart grow cold, realizing only then that his prior ability to contact his home world must have been deliberately permitted by the opponent, who may have even been monitoring the entire communication process without them noticing.
"Since that's the case, I will give you a few more days to think it over," Lynn waved his hand dismissively, and the several Divine Servants escorted the strangely shaped Geometric aliens away.
Under the watchful eyes of numerous Divine Servants, the Chief Executive Officer returned alone to his spaceship to meet with the awaiting disk leaders using the shipboard cyber-brain, and reported all the latest developments and his thoughts.
However, such a significant matter couldn't be resolved in a short time, and there was a lot of internal agreement and dissent.
Luckily, Lynn hadn't insisted on an immediate response, but in the days that followed, the captive Geometric aliens received no special treatment; instead, they were locked up in the prison.
This prison was established at the lunar core, inspired by Lynn's hearing of the satellite prison from the Chief Executive Officer. Created using his divine power, the prison was quite extensive, albeit a bit rough in appearance.
Hundreds of Geometric aliens were incarcerated separately. In addition, Lynn deliberately used the intelligent beings from the main world, such as the Moko people and Raite people, as models, crafting some prisoners with divine power to serve as their cellmates, facilitating the next step of his plan.
This extraterrestrial civilization's technology level was high, and even a slight leak could greatly benefit them. Since they were now masquerading as a civilization from a higher dimension, asking directly for some "low-end" technology was likely to arouse suspicion.
Additionally, the "barrenness" of this star system seriously contradicted their own boastful narratives. It might confuse the opposition for a moment, but in time it may prove inconsistent, so a more plausible explanation was necessary.
