I Don't Need To Log Out

Chapter 117: The Duel

Arlon and Orlen stood face-to-face in the arena, their surroundings steeped in a tense silence.

The students, including the players, watched intently, sensing that this match could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Orlen's reputation as a near-legendary mage and Arlon's earlier display had raised expectations to a fever pitch.

Even though there isn't much information, it says "leg" among his weaknesses. I need to find out what it is, Arlon thought, his mind racing as he strategized.

"Are you ready?" Orlen asked, his tone calm but commanding.

"Yes," Arlon replied, his voice steady.

He unsheathed Aetherion's Edge once again, and this time, the onlookers took a much closer look.

Though none of them could identify it, the sword's aura left no doubt—it was enchanted, and immensely so.

"Let's start. You can go first," Orlen said with a faint smile.

And the match began...

For several moments, neither of them moved.

The tension in the air was palpable, and the students dared not make a sound, fearing it might disrupt the combatants' focus.

Eventually, Arlon decided he needed to be the one to start. He wouldn't use his skills, but it was time to show off his new abilities.

In his past timeline, Arlon had created two warrior abilities, both of which were related to movement.

Since he couldn't use the Lightning Feet skill now, he had already practiced those two abilities.

So, he activated his first ability, Ironbound Surge.

This was the first ability Arlon had created. It helped him go fast, but he couldn't perfect it yet.

The ability allowed him to manipulate his body weight dynamically.

By making himself nearly weightless when his feet touched the ground and then dramatically increasing his weight mid-jump, he could generate massive momentum and become a near-unstoppable force.

So, every time Arlon's feet contacted the ground, he needed to make his weight low, and then high again.

This was where he couldn't perfect the skill yet. When Arlon's feet touched the ground, the ground cracked.

He wasn't good enough to change his weight in that split second yet.

Another drawback was that he couldn't stop immediately. To halt his momentum, he had to return his body weight to normal, which left him vulnerable for a split second.

Also, his speed wasn't as fast as with Lightning Feet.

Still, Ironbound Surge was a formidable ability, and combined with his enhanced armor, it gave him the speed he needed.

When Arlon activated the ability and launched himself, he seemed to vanish for a moment.

Of course, his first jump didn't crack the floor since he had time to change his weight. But the second wouldn't be the same.

That was why, even though he seemed to have vanished, when the ground cracked everyone learned where Arlon was.

He began circling Orlen at high speed, looking for an opening.

It's as if he has eyes in the back of his head, Arlon thought as he realized that Orlen's awareness left no weak points, even from behind.

If there's no opening, I'll create one.

Arlon prepared to brute-force his way through. Charging directly at Orlen, he raised Aetherion's Edge and leaped.

Orlen reacted instantly, turning to face him and raising a spatial barrier.

He only had a wooden staff. Of course, it was probably something strong, but it wasn't enchanted.

It was more than enough to create a spatial barrier, so Arlon's sword bounced from the shield and Arlon jumped back.

So he also uses spatial magic. Elves generally used nature magic instead of spatial magic, but it wouldn't be right to think of him as a normal Elf.

Arlon also didn't forget that the arena they were fighting in belonged to Orlen. He probably wouldn't use it since it would be cheating, but Arlon still needed to be careful.

The fight progressed with repeated clashes, neither gaining the upper hand.

Arlon's sword bounced off Orlen's barriers again and again, while Orlen kept his distance, maintaining control with spatial magic.

Spatial magic doesn't have a counter, Arlon thought grimly. Well, maybe time magic, but that's far beyond my reach right now, I am not even good at spatial magic yet.

Arlon knew he needed to switch tactics. He hadn't revealed his magic abilities yet, so none of the students or Orlen knew he was a magic swordsman.

If he used magic subtly, it could give him the edge he needed. He needed to use magic. But he still didn't want to make it obvious that he could use magic.

Arlon was now sure that even if he used magic to surprise Orlen, Orlen would find a way to dodge.

He needed a twist. And he had just the right thing for that twist. Blink was a spell he could use without making it obvious that he was a magic swordsman.

So, if he used the Blink spell to approach Orlen, shocking him, he thought that Orlen would drop his guard thinking there wouldn't be any more surprises.

Of course, this was wishful thinking and Arlon knew that, but this was the best thing he could afford right now.

Arlon feigned another frontal attack, clashing his sword against Orlen's shield. This time, as the barrier rebounded his strike, he blinked behind Orlen, his sword already mid-swing.

The sudden teleportation caught the audience off guard, but Orlen was unfazed.

Arlon saw the smirk on Orlen's face just as he felt the sharp pain in his foot. Orlen had struck with his wooden staff, and though it appeared ordinary, it hit like a weapon weighing tons.

Suppressing his reaction, Arlon activated his armor's skill, Shadow Shift, phasing his body into shadows.

The staff passed harmlessly through his foot, but this also caused his sword to phase, rendering his attack ineffective.

As he re-materialized, his sword struck another barrier Orlen raised effortlessly.

Rather than retreating, Arlon pressed in closer, determined to exploit the one weakness most mages had: close combat.

The battle continued with a relentless exchange of sword strikes and magical counters.

Occasionally, tree branches erupted from the ground, attempting to bind or strike Arlon, but he cut through them instantly, refusing to lose momentum.

Despite his efforts, Arlon knew he couldn't sustain this pace. His stamina and mana were finite, and his opponent's level advantage was undeniable.

If the fight dragged on, Orlen would outlast him.

Luckily, he hadn't spent his mana too much since he had already mastered Blink and could arrange the mana spent.

If he could use Dash, he may be able to find an opening, but he wouldn't use any skills.

It always comes down to magic in the end. Arlon only had one chance. The second Orlen learned Arlon was a magic swordsman, Arlon wouldn't have any other chances to win.

He still didn't know what "leg" among the weaknesses meant. Orlen moved a lot without any issues till now.

Arlon had to gamble at this point.

He probably has a leg issue, he thought. So the only logical thing was to attack his leg with magic.

But one magic wouldn't be enough, so he needed to cast three magic spells at the same time.

Since all of them were lower-level spells, Arlon knew he could do it.

So he blinked once more. But this time, unlike every other time Arlon blinked, he didn't go behind Orlen.

Instead, he appeared in front of Orlen.

Since the beginning of the match, he blinked behind Orlen.

The only reason for this was to make him think that either Arlon was an idiot who only used his abilities to go behind others or the ability only helped go behind others.

And now, he didn't use it that way to shock Orlen.

Orlen's poker face didn't change, but it wasn't known if that was because he already knew or because he didn't want to show his emotions.

Arlon used the first-ever spell he used against an enemy, he made the floor slippery.

He also supported it with two other magic spells.

First, he cast Fire Pillar like the time he used it against Zack. But this time he cast it instantly, controlling the output.

He didn't need to make the Fire Pillar to soar high. Instead, he coated his sword with wind magic.

This server to two purposes. First, he would have a sharper sword, cutting through most things, maybe even the wooden staff.

And the second was to fan the flames of the Fire Pillar. Unlike the potions, elements created with mana were close to reality.

So, wind made fire stronger and Arlon used it to his full advantage.

When he swung his sword inside the Fire Pillar, the fire flared up.

All of these happened in a split second, so the students hadn't even realized that this was Arlon's magic and that he was a magic swordsman.
