I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense

Chapter 938 - 939 Chess Game

Chapter 938: Chapter 939 Chess Game

Inside the grand hall, two groups of cultivators were fighting fiercely, while the real culprit had swiftly escaped and disappeared.

“Junior Brother, is your map accurate? I feel like this map isn’t quite right,”

Liu Jinshui asked; his map marked this area as the place where the tomb’s owner had conducted alchemy during his lifetime, but upon arrival, he discovered it was actually where Earth Dragon Grass resided. Although both were treasures, they were completely different concepts.

“Brother, what a coincidence, right? Ever since I got the map, I’ve been experiencing misfortune, and none of the places match with what’s marked on the map. I wonder what Xiao Lao Di was calculating by giving us a fake map, perhaps intending to lead us to some irrelevant places to facilitate his own treasure hunt in the real treasure location?”

Li Xiaobai also said.

The two of them took out their maps and compared them; there were almost no similarities. If they hadn’t known the past events, they would have almost thought they were maps of two different places.

“Damn, we’ve been tricked; wasted ten thousand top-grade Immortal Stones,”

Liu Jinshui cursed.

“Wasted, but not completely wasted, at the very least, he used the Tomb Entry Divination Talisman to send us in; otherwise, we couldn’t have taken the lead so quickly,”

Li Xiaobai said.

“Two Senior Brothers, look at this area, the two maps only have this region in common,”

Hu Meizi pointed at an area on the map, the corners of both maps had a small section that were exactly the same shape, marked with three small characters: Heavenly Secrets Platform.

“What’s this Heavenly Secrets Platform for?”

“Not quite sure, perhaps to glimpse into the secrets of heaven?”

“Shall we check it out?”

“Let’s go!”

The three agreed and decided to follow the map one more time; if they were deceived again, they would never believe it again.

On the way, the three of them sped along in Li Xiaobai’s golden chariot. Along the way, he kept setting off Firecracker Thunderclaps; the continuous explosions and roaring sounds blasted the tunnels of the cave dwelling into fragments, and whenever treasures burst out, the three of them quickly divided them up.

It must be said, this was much more efficient than following the map and trying their luck one spot at a time.

“Junior Brother, you change your mounts quite often; when will you get one for me too?”

Liu Jinshui looked at the chariot underfoot with some envy; he had noticed the chariot’s uniqueness—after crushing demonic beasts, particles from their bodies would automatically integrate into the chariot, and with each body absorbed, the chariot’s presence grew stronger, much like Hellfire, this was also a growing Magic Treasure.

Li Xiaobai lit a Huazi: “One of a kind, priceless.”

The three of them continued blasting their way forward, reaping a rich harvest. The cultivators they encountered all chose to detour around them, unwilling to confront such irrational bombardment head-on.

As they passed through a gorge, the trio stopped their bombing.

Embedded in the stone walls on either side were large and small chunks of blood-colored flesh, pulsating in a highly regular manner. The entire gorge was composed of flesh, with strands of Blood Qi swirling, chilling to the bone.

“Jeez, who exactly was this tomb’s owner, to actually breed such things here; quite a heavy taste,”

Liu Jinshui clicked his tongue in amazement; so many Flesh Mountains all gathered here certainly didn’t form naturally. His curiosity about the tomb owner’s identity increased—if they could find the practice room or the bedroom, they would really hit the jackpot.

The group cautiously passed through the gorge, and the scene suddenly opened up before them: a vast pavilion and buildings stood towering, surrounded by a plethora of cultivators who had arrived earlier.

This ancient building had three levels; each level’s exterior hung countless corpses, with iron hooks piercing through their chests, emitting a faint blue glow that looked very eerie. The sign at the top read ‘Heavenly Secrets Tower’ in large letters.

The cultivators below were silent, appearing to be sizing something up, and inside the floors, the flickering candlelight intermittently revealed shadows flashing.

“Jeez, what is this place, why does it feel so spine-chilling?”

Liu Jinshui widened his eyes and took in the surroundings, and in doing so, recognized quite a few familiar faces.

The Blood Demon Sect’s Blood Soul, Wu Chengjue, Monk Pudu, and a group of Heavenly Immortal Realm cultivators seemed as if summoned, all gathered here. In the front, stood a white-haired old man and a silver-haired old woman.

“What’s happening here, why aren’t we going in?”

Li Xiaobai was somewhat puzzled.

“Quiet, don’t disturb the master during the game,”

a cultivator beside him chided Li Xiaobai in a low voice.

“May I ask brother, what is this game? Does this building have a special significance?”

Li Xiaobai humbly asked for advice.

However, the cultivator did not speak again, displaying an indifferent demeanor.

The three were a bit bewildered, slipping through the crowd to Wu Chengjue’s side.

“Senior, what’s going on here? Why is everyone stopping here?”

Wu Chengjue glanced at Liu Jinshui, his eyes revealing a profound meaning.

“Heavenly Secrets Tower has set up three chess games, break them and we may proceed. Elder Xiang Xumei has always been known as the Chess Saint. He is currently playing a game. If he wins, we may enter the second floor.”

The chubby man, feeling unnerved by his stare, awkwardly asked, “And if he loses?”

“Aren’t they hanging over there?”

Wu Chengjue gestured towards the row of bodies hanging upstairs as he spoke.

“Hiss!”

“To lose is to die?”

“That’s not right, I remember Elder Xiang Xumei is the master of Enlightenment Peak, his cultivation had long reached the Half-Saint Realm. How could he possibly die? Even if he loses, he should be able to make a full retreat, right?”

Liu Jinshui frowned slightly, remembering the identity of the man from the first floor. This was a bigwig from the Southern Continent who likes to enjoy tea and company, giving off an air of tranquility, thus although his cultivation wasn’t top-notch, he was well-connected.

How is it possible to say he would die just like that?

“You see the third floor, hanging there are all those of Half-Saint Cultivation Level. The tomb’s owner is at a peak realm, even among those in the Saint Realm, he stands at the apex,”

Wu Chengjue said indifferently.

“But you guys are really bold, setting traps to kill cultivators and still being able to make a clean getaway, truly impressive.”

“It’s all driven by life’s necessities, senior. You are the real expert. Among so many cultivators, only you were able to resist the temptation and refrain from advancing. I admire that,”

Liu Jinshui chuckled sheepishly, he knew he had been recognized and he showered the incredibly beautiful woman before him with praise.

“The Chess Saint is getting up! The first floor is broken!”

Suddenly, there was an excited shout from the crowd. Inside the first floor of the ancient building, an old figure slowly stood up, cupped his fists in salute to the other side of the chessboard, and then stepped towards the second floor.

“Follow up, the Chess Saint only cares about playing chess, not the treasures, so it’s our gain!”

The crowd surged forward, rushing into the first level of the ancient building to begin scavenging.

Li Xiaobai and his companions hid behind, afraid to show themselves, lest they be recognized.

“Senior, what happens if all three levels of chess games are broken?”

“Then the real tomb chamber will open.”
