Chapter 17: Giantification
They had found the portal to the third checkpoint. They didn't encounter any monsters or lootables on the way here.
Seems like the fungi took over this place completely. Why could a fungi talk human language?
Zero was puzzled but decided to not persuade the matter any further. The ant didn't harm him or his dog, if anything it even helped him.
Coal looked at the portal to the third checkpoint, it felt like something ominous would appear after they entered the portal.
Coal knew the human was strong, that lessened its worries a bit, but it felt weak.
If not for the human it would've long died in here. It wanted to become at least strong enough as to not get in the way of the human too much.
Zero picked up the dog. Coal looked at him confused, why did you pick me up?
Zero threw the dog into the portal and smirked. The tradition never changes.
Zero jumped in shortly after and prepared his scythe. This time there was no skeleton in sight.
Zero didn't understand why a skeleton didn't appear. Did the gods forgive him or something?
He glanced at the dog, only to see it shivering in the corner of the checkpoint. What's wrong with it?
Suddenly he felt a chil down his spine, he quickly turned around and tried to block the strike, but failed.
A huge bleeding wound could be seen on his chest. The defensive artifact didn't help him?
An emotionless skeleton starred at him. The skeleton had a robe and a dagger. An assassin skeleton? They exist?
This is the first time he was hurt this severely. Almost half his health plummeted in a single strike. This was insane!
He spat out some blood and strengthened his grip on the scythe. The power scaling of the skeleton was nothing like in the game. This skeleton was as strong as a 7th layer boss if not even stronger.
A shiver ran down his spine, if this was the skeleton in the third checkpoint, then how bad would it be further down?
The skeleton launched another attack but this one was weaker. Zero blocked it and jumped back to get some distance between him and the skeleton.
Seems like the skeleton got a critical hit the first strike, Zero didn't know how else to explain the sudden weakening of attack power.
Zeros eyes suddenly became colder, and the scythe started radiating a bright green light. The next strike their blades clashed, and the scythe cut the skeletons dagger in half as if it was butter.
The skeleton jumped back showing no emotion. The skeleton was disappearing into the shadows.
Zero couldn't allow the skeleton to get another critical strike on him, that would straight up kill him!
His scythe started emitting a very bright light, it was the light spell. The scythe lit up the whole room, getting rid of the shadows the skeleton could hide in.
Zero struck the skeletons head and the fight was over.
His wound was oozing blood, it was deep and painful. The dog that was shivering in the corner looked at Zeros wound, it felt sorry. Sorry that it could not do anything but sit in the corner trembling.
It would understand if the human punished it for being useless.
That didn't happen however. Zero was too exhausted to scold the dog for being useless. He sat down to collect his breath.
A perfect time to take a break. He took out some food and got to eating. He threw the dog a piece of meat like always, but Coal was hesitant to eat it... it felt guilty for being so useless.
Coal could just say the human was strong and it didn't have to interfere and help him fight before, but that was not the case right now.
The human was wounded and all it could do was tremble the corner afraid for its life.
The dog stood up and walked towards where the perks laid. This time there was absolutely nothing that Zero could use.
Coal glanced at Zero still sitting there eating. It had a resolve to become stronger and help at least a little bit.
It touched the perk tablet, and the other two dissappeared. The perk it had chosen was... Giantification.
The dog would become bigger and stronger the higher its level. It instantly grew in size, about 3 times bigger than it was before. It's strength increased fifteen fold!
Zero noticed a big shadow casting over him. Huh? What happened? He lifted his head only to see Coal had become way too big for his liking.
I was wandering around with a dog, not an elephant! Why would it take such an annoying perk? He had allowed it to pick a perk since all three of them were useless to him... but why that?
You couldn't stop the growth after taking that perk, with each level you get bigger, and soon enough you wouldn't be able to fit anywhere.
Of course you also got stronger, but still this perk was annoying. He sighed, he commended the dogs resolve to become less of a liability, but... it had failed, it just became an even bigger liability to him. Both literally and figuratively.
He sighed, whatever, he couldn't change it now anyway. He stood up and went to the godessess statue behind the portal.
He sliced the statue into two, this statue had more divine power than the last three the scythe had absorbed. Maybe because it was further down and the connection was bad?
Who knows?
His scythe eagerly absorbed all the divine power, and the tip of its blade broke off.
Zero panicked, so the divine power was bad for the scythe after all!?
He couldn't believe it. Why would the scythe absorb it then?
Suddenly the scythe lit up in a toxic green light. The broken off tip was replaced by a toxic green plasma. Is it a lightsaber now or what?
Zero couldn't understand why this was happening, but after testing the scythe out on a wall, he understood.
The plasma tip was cutting through the wall like it was butter. The scythe transcended the limits of its material body!
Or well, it was close to it. It needed more divine power to fully replace the blade with the plasma. Right now it was only the tip.
The scythe didn't do that in the game. Well, gods and divine power were not a thing either.
He scratched his head. This was good? Maybe?
